  1. Johnson's OPS last year was about career average. His OPS this year was about 15 points less than career average. You can see that through his career his OPS fluctuated between .800-.900 usually. Thome's OPS is over 100 points less than his career average. Thome's looks a lot more like physical decline than Johnson's.
  2. F that. Floyd is under control cheaply for 3 more years. He has arguably the best stuff on the team and has shown that he can be absolutely dominating. It wouldn't surprise me if he is competing for the cy young award net year. Why would you want to trade him for a prospect?
  3. I would take Jim Thome back if we couldn't get Johnson. There are a couple reasons I would rather have Johnson though. Thome's OPS has been on the decline the past few years. I fear that he may be on the physical decline. It seemed like he had a lot of trouble catching up to fastballs this year. Plus with Johnson's OBP, I would love to see him in the 2 hole in front of Beckham.
  4. His career average OPS is higher than the OPS of everybody on the team last year... I don't see how you can't like that. And the reason people are willing to give him a shot even with his injury history is because he would be a DH and most people trust that Herm would help the injury situation.
  5. Exactly. I hate that theory. Going for a DH who can play the field is just stupid. You have the gift of having a spot in the lineup for a purely offensive player who doesn't need to play in the field. Utilize it. Getting a DH because he can play the field is just flat out dumb. Get the best offensive player you possibly can, whether he can play the field or not.
  6. He consistently has an OPS over .800 and he averages an OBP over .400. Averaging an OBP over .400.... That is DAMN good. Put him in the 2 hole in front of Beckham and our offense would be a TON better.
  7. He gets me so excited. I am one of the few on the Trade AJ while his value is high and sign Nick Johnson with the salary room we make bandwagon. It is a very disliked bandwagon.

  9. Just sign Nick Johnson if you are willing to give Thome 4-6 mil...
  10. btw, here is an interesting article somebody showed me about how a catcher effects a pitcher's ERA. Kind of long, but a good read. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=1489 I think Flowers would be able to at least match AJ's OPS this year. I am confident that he would put up a better OBP. I'd say his slugging would be similar, but his batting average would be a bit less.
  11. Ignoring the benefits of the trade is cool. It was just an idea anyway. I am perfectly happy with AJ staying, I love how he handles the staff and all. I just think the reward could be pretty good if we did it. It really is a big risk though.
  12. I guess i like risk taking in baseball you guys then. I would love to see him keep doing it. We could probably at leasst get some sort of decent relief pitchers for AJ. The probability of Johnson getting hurt at DH is less than it normally would be. Flowers has potential, but i agree he would probably have worse offense year than AJ. Johnson + Flowers + whatever we could snag with AJ > AJ in my opinion. I would rather Kenny take the risk. If he does, chances are we either narrowly make the playoffs and get eliminated first round, or have a great chance at winning it all. Trading AJ and signing johnson wouldn't hinder us for the future either. AJ is probably gone after this year regardless. If it were possible, i would like to see how Flowers can handle the rotation in spring training before we trade AJ. That would be the biggest concern i have.
  13. You never know. It would allow us to sign somebody like Nick Johnson for DH. I'm pretty sure he could replace AJ's production. Plus, if Flowers has a good year, it would make us even better. It would all depend on what kind of year Flowers has. He has the potential to be much better than AJ. He basically put up a 1.000 OPS in AA. I still look back at his 1.443 OPS in the AFL a few years ago and get hard.
  14. Why is that? You would have to think that teams would like having a durable catcher who bats .300 and doesn't let anything get by him. He isn't too expensive either.
  15. You have to wonder if they will try to trade AJ. I love AJ as much as everybody else and think he is great for the organization, but trading him could get some decent return and it would free up space to sign somebody like nick johnson. I guess it would depend if the organization is sold on Flowers and if they think he could start next year. I know AJ has a partial no trade clause, but i'm not sure what teams it blocks him from.
  16. PM me your drug dealers number. Looks like he sells some good stuff.
  17. There's no way Ozzie lets his favorite player go. Ozzie loves him that much.
  18. As far as im concerned, Feliz has already proven himself in the majors. 1.74 ERA, .677 WHIP, 39 strikeouts in 31 IP. He can easily be one of the best closers in the league.
  19. Eaaaaasssssssssy. If we could get him cheaply, I don't see why we wouldn't give him a shot. I couldn't give a s*** if he strikes out a bunch. As long as he walks and has a decent OBP, id be happy. If we could get him cheaply, i would gladly give him a shot in spring training and see how he fares.
  20. A move i could really see and would like would be for kenny to trade for fernando perez. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/P/F...ndo-Perez.shtml The rays are packed with outfielders, so i don't see why they wouldnt trade him (unless they want him as a backup OF). He was injured all last year, so maybe we could net him without giving up too much. As you can see, he has been great at drawing walks and putting up a high OBP throughout the minors. He is extremely fast and has great range in the outfield. He steals bases and is a switch hitter. I have been wanting kenny to trade for him since last season. I would love if kenny could get him in a trade and give him a shot during spring training.
  21. When you factor scrap and grind into the equation, he is easily one of the greatest players ever.
  22. His average OBP is worth even less when he gets thrown out so often. horrible baserunning: So you are trying to justify his horrible baserunning and make it sound good by saying "He takes risks"? Great argument.... did you watch any Sox games this year? you would have noticed how many terrible baserunning mistakes he made. lousy defense: errors are a stat decided by one guy that is sitting up in some booth watching the game. Errors are a pretty terrible stat to judge a players defense with. Again, since you brought up the "did you watch any Sox games this year?", did you not notice the horrible routes he takes to balls? Pods is a bad defender.
