Who should the Sox trade for this winter?
Please kenny, just stack the defense. Do whatever it takes to get JJ hardy. His value is low and the team doesn't need him anymore. He had an off year, but if he can reproduce his 2007 and 2008 numbers, he is one of the best in the league. Sign randy winn to a cheap contract. He won't take much, and he is really good in RF. I would want Nix at 2b full time. I think if we don't constantly switch him around in the infield and outfield, he would cut down on the errors and be more consistent. Hardy and Nix have extremely good range. That infield defense would be a vacuum. The question mark with that lineup would be our offense though. We would have a bunch of guys who either have a lot of potential or are coming off of bad years. I'm pretty sure Hardy and Rios would bounce back, but Winn is aging and i don't know if that the wrist injury changed Carlos. The offense would have a chance to be good, but it could be a bust. We would also have a problem at leadoff. Alexei has a lot of value right now. Hopefully we could trade him for a decent leadoff hitter. I don't see Getz ever becoming that good. He can be our utility infielder i guess. Our defense would definitely be one of the best in the league. With the starting staff that we would have, we would be a force.

why the f*** doesnt he just play flowers? "i protect the rookie. i dont like throw him under the fire. i protect him"- The environment thread
Ah, didn't see this thread before. I'm glad it exists. Took AP environmental science last year and decided to go into environmental engineering. That class was a life changer.- My surprise player to be dealt
His value is lower because of this season. We have him under control for a couple more years and he has proven that he can be a great pitcher. I don't see why we would be trading him this offseason.- 9/25 Detroit Tigers @ Chicago White Sox
you got my hopes up thinking this game was today =\- Who should the Sox trade for this winter?
meh to jose reyes... costs too much and we will probably have to trade away some good prospects for him... Might as well just trade for Hardy since it will cost less and he would be a better player than reyes if he gets back to 08, 07 form.- My surprise player to be dealt
f*** small ball. I like Kenny's idea. OBP and extra base hits score runs.- My surprise player to be dealt
Alexei.- SI article about the 2010 White Sox.
Ugh, Abreu's defense is absolute garbage. He is worse than Dye. I don't want him anyway near this team. And he will cost more than 1 mil...- Woohoo!
He is basically saying there is a reason hitting coaches have been around as long as they have.- KW's plan on the offseason
You really think Getz has been much better? Nix has been constantly switched around the infield and stuck in the outfield occasionally. It can't be that easy to stay consistent when that happens. Factoring errors in, he has still saved more runs than Getz at 2nd with a lot less time there.- KW's plan on the offseason
Don't bother with him. He bases his opinions off of irrational personal grudges.- KW's plan on the offseason
Getz and his .689 OPS against righties isnt much better. VS lefties he is even worse. Nix has more potential than Getz. That blend of power and great defense is rare at 2nd base. Yeah yeah, I know Nix has a .970 fielding percentage or w/e, but his range is top notch. I read in a scouting report where somebody actually said he has the best range of any second baseman he has ever seen. With the pitching we will have next year, I really want to stack our defense. (please KW, gift us with JJ Hardy)- Twins @ White Sox, 9/23/09
Ug, Flowers out...- KW's plan on the offseason
I really hope Nix is our starter at 2b next year- KW's plan on the offseason
http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune....rom-within.html He mentions that he wants a team with players that are reliant on OBP and extra base hits (I assume he means slugging), but he says that he wants to improve within the organization and hints that there won't be any big FA signings. I wonder how this offseason will pan out. If he wants better OBP, more extra base hits, and better defense, I wonder if he will want Nix to be playing at 2b.- Woohoo!
They obviously don't listen to him then, in which case he should probably be gone.- Woohoo!
- Jenks done for the rest of the year
Both are pretty funny too.- Jenks done for the rest of the year
One is an aging veteran (even that dropoff is extremely uncommon) and the other is a player with horrible back problems... You were originally comparing Rios' dropoff to Jenks' dropoff. That is ridiculous. You know as well as I do that relievers are a lot more prone to just "losing it" than a young, proven outfielder is. ~Billy Koch and Mike MacDougal say hai~- Top 10 pick status
How does it work if we don't sign the player we drafted? if we had the 14th this year and didn't sign him, would we get the 15th next year? I'm not sure if it is a viable (or legal) option to purposely not sign the pick this year if this draft class is very weak and next years is very strong, but I wouldn't be opposed to it. I'm sure that wouldn't happen though.- Jenks done for the rest of the year
Most people view an OF having a bad year differently than a reliever having a bad year. Relievers can often just turn to s***, while that usually doesn't happen to everyday players.- Jenks done for the rest of the year
Rios and Konerko are players who help your team every day in every inning. Jenks is a player who helps your team during 1 inning probably once every 3 games. They are definitely worth more. - 9/25 Detroit Tigers @ Chicago White Sox
