  1. Greg has been an awesome poster this year.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 03:22 AM) http://www.cantstopthebleeding.com/good-th...-about-baseball http://livefromlawschool.blogspot.com/2008...amilton-do.html I'm pretty sure Sosnick has written a book about this (his experience of becoming a sports agent)...and detailed the Hamilton situation there as well as on a blog online. Well, that's a dick move.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 01:03 AM) One thing is for certain. If they passed a new MLB rule that players/ballboys or ballgirls can never give/toss a baseball into the stands, it would be the wrong decision. We've had literally thousands of gun homicides and school shootings and yet nobody would ever dare to take that freedom away from the American people. Unfortunately, personal responsibility is something we're lacking. Seems we always have to find someone to blame. While the example cited earlier was extreme....well, the pitcher is at fault for the pitch that was too far inside and then Conor Jackson is partially at fault and the ballboys down the LF line and then the architects who designed the corner of that stadium (HOK I think) so that a foul ball would bounce all the way around to Josh Hamilton in that exact position. It's like those Final Destination movies. Wrong place, wrong time. 5-10 years ago, there was a plastic barrier put up so that fans would never fall back behind the scoreboard...but unfortunately, so many fans took license with that the dove over the railings and onto the barrier to fight for foul balls and create a disturbance or even fights. So those irresponsible people who changed the minds of Rangers' management to remove the barrier are also at fault, no? I wonder how the situation would change if it was a rookie outfielder who was unlikely to stick in the majors. Or, if instead of a fireman's son, the man was the CEO of Enron (well, a similar company) or head of the Dr. Pepper Company. Would a rookie feel "less" responsibility being in less of a position to make restitution. Do we expect Josh Hamilton to be even more of a "hero" because that role has been thrust upon him....in a sense, he used (in cynic's eyes) his recovery from addiction and backstory to make himself even more popular and marketable, higher Q ratings, etc. Would it be different if he hadn't become a born-again Christian and never fired his (first) Jewish agent for being a non-believer? Lots of deeper issues to consider here. Can you imagine if something like this happened when Alex Rios tossed a ball at USCF, compared to Konerko or Buehrle? WTF?! This just made me not like Hamilton, since I was never to high on him anyway, just indifferent.
  4. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 10:57 PM) You made a funny. I did at one point have someone call me out on the Dayan shirt, saying he wouldn't do anything for the club right now. He was stared at in disbelief.
  5. I'd like to point out, we never credit Kenny's good moves in retrospect like not resigning Rowand due to the 5th year.
  6. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 18, 2011 -> 02:14 PM) Quinarvy and chw will be happy to know that none of the Wii U dev kits are final versions and to expect the system to get "beefier". I couldn't find a thumbs up smiley, so here's a monkey
  7. QUOTE (kevo880 @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 01:13 AM) Why do Garica and Escober switch between playing 2B and SS so often? Everything I've heard says Escobar is great defensively at short so I don't understand not having him play there exclusively. Make him ready for being a utility?
  8. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 09:10 PM) Q, you're a cool dude, but WTF? Hamilton did absolutely nothing wrong. He doesn't owe that kid a damn thing. It was the fluke of all flukes. I think that was a combination of reading Passan's article and it being pointed out how Hamilton talking about he he been effected, which is fine, he should. Obviously, Hamilton owes him nothing. But then he talks about how he'll hear the kids screams all his life. But the kids dad is gone, fluke or not, and most people would in Hamilton's spot would feel responsible. And he shouldn't feel guilty, like you said it was the fluke of all flukes. But Hamilton should at the very least work with the Rangers to set up a college fund for the kid. It's like when Adenhart died, Hunter went to Adenhart's parents and told them that Adenhart's little brother could come to the clubhouse and stay with any of the players. It was like they were trying to be surrogate brothers. While Hamilton shouldn't be a surrogate father, he should at least help make sure the kid can get through college/
  9. http://www.sbnation.com/nba/2011/7/9/22680...charles-barkley My dreams came true.
  10. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 09:40 PM) If he trades Viciedo this year, there will be a f***ing riot. I will walk around the stadium tomorrow in my Viciedo shirt yelling "fock this club. I should manayer."
  11. I laughed. They're friends and Getz probably laughed too. There was no malice in it, just friendly ribbing. It would have been funny had Getz put "Beckham is a b****" when he saw it.
  12. After last year, I just conceded Ozzie will be here for life until he wants to leave. I love Ozzie, so I can tolerate his boneheadedness, but I wouldn't be sad to see him gone.
  13. Can we hire Joakim as a clubhouse-engergy guy during the lockout and Rose to lead off?
  14. QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 01:51 AM) Maybe I'm being cynical, but the video I saw of Hamilton, all he talked about was himself and his support system in his time of need. It seemed like he thought this was all about him. I think you're being a bit cynical, but it gave me a thought. If Hamilton doesn't take a hand in helping look after that kid, I will hate him more than any player in any sport. I think he will and I hope I'm right.
  15. This may be the worst story I've read in a long time. I wouldn't be able to play baseball ever again if I was Hamilton. Jesus. Hamilton will probably look after this kid for the rest of his life. Jeff Passan's article made me tear up.
  16. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 04:10 PM) If you had Smoak, you don't waste the dollars on Dunn. I like Beckham, I just wouldn't take him over Smoak. If we have Smoak, we also probably don't have Paulie and have Chris Getz or Chone Figgins at 2nd.
  17. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 02:14 PM) The center position is brutal right now. Out of the 5 guys you listed you have one superstar, a PF being forced to play C, 2 guys who are never healthy and a guy with no offensive game at all. Yeah, but for right now, Horford is a C. Bynum and Bogut are always injured, but are good when healthy. Noah was a monster until his thumb injury. When he came back, his timing was off and he was afraid to shoot his Tornado, which he was actually making before the injury.
  18. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 01:39 PM) A high upside high schooler in the first round?! That's not how the White Sox roll. Trout and Smoak or Mitchell and Beckham, that's an easy call. Really JPN? So, the Gold Glove caliber defense and slightly under 2B average offense of Gordon Beckham is worse than the .002 BA points higher Smoak who plays at an offensive position. Yes, Gordon is an easy call.
  19. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 01:57 PM) I imagine Greg Oden will be announcing his retirement this time next year. The C position will never be dominant again. Man, Yao was awesome. Sad his body couldn't handle it. Right now though, the Center position IS Dwight, followed by Horford, who would be joined by Bynum/Bogut/Noah if that trio could stay healty. Meanwhile, Rome Wasn't Built in One Day was genius by Steve Porter.
  20. Gray, Marquez, Harrell. Gray would be nice, Harrell was awesome at the OAK game I went to last year, and Marquez? Nah, don't need him.
  21. QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 11:51 PM) Translate it any way you like. I'm not here to judge, but it is my belief that we will all stand before God one day. If you want to go before Him having never believed in Him, then I sincerely wish you the best of luck. I'm not big into the whole "force the infidels to convert" idea; it's kind of stupid, violent and intolerant if you ask me. So, you're free to believe whatever you want to believe. Doesn't change my personal belief that we will all be judged eventually. Good enough for me, it was that "that's pleasant" that sounded as if it dripped with sarcasm to me. Now that there is a lengthy, thought out descriptor, then I'll retract that statement.
  22. QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 11:37 PM) And you're an atheist. That's pleasant. You're free to face God with any reputation you like; it's not my place to change you or convert you or anything like that. So good luck. Wow. That was thinly veiled spite.
