  1. None of them are Tebow's caliber
  2. Told my friend that this revealed donors and fundraisers got ambassador appointments. "So...how it's always been done?" Said friend grew up conservative, is now a moderate left.
  3. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 12:00 PM) Captain, Thad, SS2K5, just stop talking to each other. You three turn threads into nonsense repeating the same tired things over and over. Guess what? you wont change each others minds. The end. This. Please.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 12:11 AM) I said I heard some military on the radio pissed off. No, you just keep saying "the military". Not "some military".
  5. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 01:41 AM) People didnt know how ambassador jobs work? Ironically Strangesox posted an article today about the ambassador to Denmark. http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archiv...denmark/497543/ If this is the worst that they found, then honestly the Democratic party is a lot cleaner than I would have expected. Ambassador positions have always been this way. George W Bush. UK Ambassador- Robert Tuttle He had raised more than $200,000 for Bush's 2004 re-election campaign and inauguration ceremony. He also held the post of United States Ambassador to the United Kingdom from July 2005 to February 2009. Other examples are Canada, David Wilkins, Sweeden, Teel Bivens, etc. Its so common, it actually has a name: Patronage Appointment. And if anyone thinks that Clinton or Trump wont make them, I have a really big bridge in Brooklyn that is for sale. In fact, you probably couldnt pick 2 candidates who were more likely to make patronage appointments. They both love nepotism. Anyway, I think theres a cliche, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. The more they hack, the more I wonder what their true motivation is. Because I just dont believe that hackers are trying to do what is best for me. Maybe I am an old cynic, but something just seems odd about hackers all of a sudden becoming altruistic. Yeah, I immediately thought of the article earlier. Looked up the guy because he was a Hollywood producer, found it was a patronage appointment. Just entirely unshocked about this. I disagree with the practice, but it's not a new or a secret.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 13, 2016 -> 09:58 PM) The guy was hitting .280 before tonight. Limited at bats. How many players nowadays can hit? Saladino can hit. Name five second basemen who are or would be better hitters than Saladino over 550 at bats? 1. The Sox never have a super utility guy that plays as much as the regulars. Saladino was completely buried on the bench by Robin earlier on, before the injury. He was the forgotten man, in fact. 2. I haven't seen the metrics people speaking up for Saladino much. I'm pretty much reading from everybody that he's a sub at best. Murphy, Altuve, Cano, Odor, LeMahieu, Kipnis, Kinsler, Dozier, Forsythe, Zobrist To name a few. As for your other points... 1) People are advocating him as a super-sub. Robin may be gone. 2) That's because when people have dissenting opinions or you think they do, you cover your eyes and ears and ignore it.
  7. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 13, 2016 -> 06:34 PM) I love those traits and he can be fun to watch, but you don't make roster regions over things like swagger and flair. If we go off of that, Brett Lawrie is starting every position.

    QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 13, 2016 -> 06:05 PM) Not as much "we" as "greg" making that assumption. Nah, there's plenty of people who like to attribute anything poor Abreu, Alexei or Contreras did to false age.
  9. Quin replied to ronkark's topic in Pale Hose Talk
    Can we stop this assumption that all Cubans are lying about their age?
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 13, 2016 -> 03:25 PM) That isn't really a FutureSox thing, but could be something for SoxNet, or even it's own blog. Could be interesting. Noted, as SoxNet is going to undergo a massive shift this offseason in a push for new writers and voices.

  12. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 13, 2016 -> 02:58 PM) They actually didn't, the 2005 Cardinals were 1 game better at 100-62. This.
  13. Fun Fact: The two teams that have achieved 116 wins both lost in the playoffs, the other being the 1906 Cubs that loss to the Sox.
  14. QUOTE (SpankyEaton @ Sep 13, 2016 -> 12:44 PM) Here's to hoping you're right. Would love them to end up like the 2001 Mariners. Yeah, forgot about the 2001 Mariners, who might've been better.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 13, 2016 -> 01:29 PM) I just get mad when people can't see what I see: In Saladino I see a regular, everyday player. He's more than some once a week utility guy. 1) Super-utility implies he's essentially playing as frequently as the starters, but rotating. This keeps everyone fresh and get's Saladino at-bats while also keeping him as a defensive sub or pinch runner when he sits. 2) You just immediately throw people that follow the draft and advanced metrics as being anti-Saladino. That's hogwash. "Draftniks" would probably be FutureSox people, who would likely be the most bullish on Saladino and have followed him for years. Advanced metrics last year showed us that Saladino has value, especially with the glove.

  17. 2013 Red Sox, 2009 Yankees, 2007 Red Sox are the only three teams in the past decade to win the World Series after having the best record in baseball. If you wanna crown the Cubs, then crown their asses. But that's why we have the playoffs.

    QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 13, 2016 -> 11:25 AM) There shouldn't be though. It's about most valuable in general. Not most valuable on a good team. Rick Porcello isn't having as good of a season as Chris Sale or Corey Kluber. Hell, if Jose Quintana were on Boston he'd likely be the overwhelming Cy Young favorite because he'd be hovering around 20 wins as well. If Porcello wins this award, we really should stop giving it out. Hell, Q with an offense this year is probably hovering around 25 wins.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 13, 2016 -> 09:57 AM) Saladino has been a great find this year. His numbers were much better in part time duty, but he has even held up pretty well after Lawrie's injury put him in starting line up. The best thing we take away from this season is that the White Sox farm system has drafted and fully developed two starting position players. And Narvaez isn't looking bad either.
  20. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Sep 13, 2016 -> 09:16 AM) Except no one is talking about WHY he's doing it, they're only talking about what he's doing. There's a good chunk of people talking about why he's doing it. It's not exactly a secret.
  21. What the f***? Um...giant glass pane they all run into?
  22. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Sep 13, 2016 -> 09:45 AM) This is your worst post in a while. Give it 10 minutes.
  23. Agreed with Caulfield, with the caveat that Saladino did try to play OF in AAA and got injured. But if Saladino could gain the ability to play a corner OF and possibly even first, he could become an extremely valuable super-utility with his defense, base running, speed and bat. Lawrie starting at second with Saladino getting consistent starts everywhere is much more appealing than Saladino starting at second with Sanchez/Leury being the bench player.
