  1. I've never been so glad to have turned 21 last month.
  2. ...damnit. If his ACL is torn, blow it up. Tank and pray you get Jabari or Exum. Sell of Deng, Noah, Booz, Dunleavy, Kirk. All of 'em. Let Snell, Butler, and Teague develop. Hell, that Murphy can play. Hope that Niko is a savior. Just... Just, this is gut wrenching. Edit: Watching it now, it looked similar to when I hyper extended my knee in HS. You need help off the court and the ligaments are very loose, but he could be back in 2-3 weeks.
  3. QUOTE (beautox @ Nov 22, 2013 -> 02:43 PM) Its a pretty deep draft this year and as it stands now Rodon could lose some shine and someone else could get some helium and he could drop to #3. If Rondon falls to #3, you take him immediately, hope Danish and EJ become something and boom: Sale Johnson Quintana Danish Rondon That'd be a dream rotation if they all maxed out their potential.
  4. Dear lord. We should be able to get something nice for Santiago or Q and lock the other one up.

QUOTE (soxfan-kwman @ Nov 21, 2013 -> 11:01 AM) I Like the trade. If he hits nobody will care. I'd say Dunn & Danks. The Brewers have to eat one year of Dunn & they get a lefty who can pitch in the NL for sure. That would give us one less lefty starter & more pitching balance. With Detroit getting rid of another Lefty bat we need more right hand starting pitchers. If we make that trade we can then sign Dan Haren for 2 years, re-sign Floyd for 2 years, & maybe sign Salty. With Braun only makes 10 mil next year, & 12 mil the following before his salary goes up to 19 mil in year 3 that would allow us to sign some more guys. Sale Haren Quintana Floyd Santigo Not bad? 1 De Aza 2 Garcia 3 Braun 4 Abreu 5 Salty 6 Vieciedo 7 Semien 8 Beckham 9 Ramirez EJ would be in the rotation.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 21, 2013 -> 12:15 AM) With all due respect, I love how people see NO possibility of Paulie bouncing back and yet they see the possibility for guys like Kepp, and Dunn still has his supporters, too. Paulie, who can still field the position very well, can still hit lefties. His power has been zapped but that may because of injury. I just don't get why people see Paulie as having zero chance of returning to Paulie form and give these other guys the benefit of the doubt. What if Paulie ISN'T finished? What if he comes out and goes 2-5 every game the first month with an occasional homer? Four homers a month is a 24 homer season. He's capable of that. I really hate that you make me point out flaws in my childhood idol and favorite player of all time. He can't field 1B well anymore. He's old, he's injured. You don't recover as well when you're old. You should just let him retire, stop beating a dead horse. I've seen few people say that Kepp can bounce back. Dunn had some great months last year and has had 0 protection in the Sox lineup. In front of Abreu he'll get more hittable pitches. He also hit over 30 HR. Dunn still has true power, but he won't have a high average.
  7. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 20, 2013 -> 08:06 PM) It's harder to have a long, sustained career when you're shorter. Refer to Oswalt's yearly injuries in his 32-35 year old seasons. I'll send you off with this trivia question. How many pitchers are under 6 feet tall in the Hall of Fame that didn't pitch in the dead ball era? I'll PM you what he signs for. We are now the NBA.
  8. WTF Rangers And I hate this. Helps Detroit a lot.

QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ Nov 20, 2013 -> 02:20 PM) To the people who hate on him for cheating....Rienzo and Quintana have both failed drug tests when they were in the minors and people are still supporting them...so there's that If you read about Quintana's, he was a teenager who took something by mistake. Braun is a raging douchebag. I'd be ok with it if it were just the 'roids, but the way he acted after being caught is awful. I'd give up nothing of value for him and the Brew Crew would need to take on a large chunk of change, even then I'd never root for him, only for him to not f*** up the Sox chances.
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 18, 2013 -> 10:06 PM) With the AFL over, this is our remaining active baseball. Carlos Sanchez and Andy Wilkins both doing well in VWL. So is Nestor Molina. Jacob May doing pretty well in Australia, DeMichele doing OK but showing power down under. Leury Garcia leading all of DWL in SB's, he's 9 for 9. Dan Black doing Dan Black things, leading his team in HR, BB. Tony Pena Jr looking good too. Thought you meant the reliever and I was terrified for a moment.
  11. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 18, 2013 -> 10:58 PM) Q, you said LeBron's scoring would go way down. Go check out what Dominique, English, Dantley, King and Aguire averaged and say that again. You'll want to clone yourself and kick your ass. Eh, I shouldn't have said way down. That was stupid. So to go back and be re-visionary LeBron would essentially be the same in an older era. His scoring WOULD drop until he could adapt to the game change (more physicality), but he'd still be a top player in the game. Meanwhile, Jordan would benefit from moving to the modern era.
  12. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 18, 2013 -> 09:15 PM) Q, I love you. I'm going to assume greg hacked into your account and posted this. Do you realize you basically said Dominique Wilkins > LeBron James with this post? greg, stop hacking accounts. What? LeBron blows 'Nique out of the water. I said he'd basically be like Magic in Jordan's era, meaning very similar. Less assists, more points. Jordan would be a superior version of Kobe in this era. The problem is everyone is comparing LeBron to Jordan. Compare the two to their more similar players (Magic and Kobe) and you'll get a much better idea.
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 18, 2013 -> 03:15 PM) He looked so unbelievably good. Calm, strong, long, confident swing. It looked like he knew what he was doing at the plate. Then he got hurt and it was just like "ok, now what?" That about sums it up. He looked like he was on the fast track to the majors. I'm hoping he has a comeback similar to De Aza.
  14. My guess is that if you switched eras, Jordan would benefit far greater than LeBron IF you simply switched them in their prime. If not, does Jordan become the cold blooded killer in today's whistle happy NBA? Does LeBron flop as much with no calls? Does LeBron benefit from college, does Jordan make the HS to pros jump? Here's how I see it: LeBron taken from today transplanted to Jordan's time would average the same rebounds and assists, but he'd see a big drop in points. He'd also be injured more from the increased contact. Meanwhile, I feel like Jordan would average more points. If ancient Kobe can put up 27 PPG on 8 FTA, then Jordan can do the same if not better. Then I feel like LeBron would put up a stat line similar to Magic with less assists and more points.
  15. If Mitchell broke out, that would be absolutely huge. I remember how high everyone was on him, especially in that one spring training, until he had his injury.

Here's the thing with Headley: He's a win now piece. So it means the Sox would have to go all-in, meaning as a set of moves. Now, I'm a proponent of those moves (as evidenced by my Crazy Quin GM hat that I wear half the time), but more so with free agents. So you'd need to sign someone like Salty to $40M/4 years to have it make sense. Lets say you trade for Headley. What are you trading, knowing he's about to become expensive in 1 year and that he was very unhealthy last year? Addison is a steep price because he's an effective, cost controlled closer. Hector has a good chunk of value as well. What I'd offer: Santiago/Keppinger/Thompson or Rienzo/Thompson for Headley. Nothing more. If Hector is in the deal, you'd need to sign someone like Floyd as rotational insurance for Rienzo/Johnson.
  17. After the "New era in the Central Division" "Don't awaken the beast" and "Our team has Lance Stephenson's punchable face on it" that game felt goooooood.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 16, 2013 -> 05:47 PM) Cause Semien is already better than Gordon IMO so he should be playing. I also don't think what we did with Beckham should have anything to do with what we do with Semien. Along those same lines, I really don't think having major league success when he got brought up is what turned Beckham into a bad baseball player. Let Marcus start the year in Chicago, work with the major league coaches and develop that way, I definitely don't think that's going to hurt him. He's a better hitter than Gordon and Connor already and he should be on the major league roster as far as I'm concerned.

I dunno if I posted this yet, but LEGO Marvel is fun. If Marvel could make a game that combined the multi-hero, huge story aspect of LEGO Marvel with aspects of Spider-Man 2 (the video game) and GTA, it would be amazing.
  20. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 15, 2013 -> 07:47 AM) There's always a way to copy it. Not necessarily without getting SoxTalk in trouble.
  21. Yeah, no for Hector on this. Rienzo is the absolute highest I'd go.
  22. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 14, 2013 -> 10:01 PM) No. That sucked. I like it the way it is now. Like Wieters for example. I can just go straight to that thread (and I have been) and know it's going to be all about him. With catch all I'd have to gloss/skip over countless posts that have nothing to do with what I'm looking for (Wieters in this case). Part of me just really wanted to make that pun. But good point.
  23. This is a definite "we're making other moves and plan on contending in 2014" move to me. Also, can we just make a Catch-er All thread? We've got separate ones on McCann, Wieters, Castro, Salty, Jaso and that's not including Rosario and a few others.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 14, 2013 -> 07:52 PM) The sad thing is, almost the entire heroic 05 team would be scoffed at by Greg as horrible failures. AJ was DFA'd by the Giants and had to beg Kenny for a job. Politte was a failed closer Toronto let walk. Konerko had tough years in 02 and 03, had people wanting him sent to the minors. Dye was let go as a waste by Oakland, had injury issues for years, and started so poorly this website nicknamed him Dead. Jenks, loser dumped by the Angels while in the minors. Crede, completely failed prospect who had years where he didn't do jack. Garland never lived up to his promise. Iguchi no one wanted after Kaz Matsui failed with the Mets. Podsednik, are you kidding, that bum hit .220 the year beforehand. Jose Contreras, completely washed out with the Yankees. Another failure A+ Uribe was a utility player prone to mental blunders. Cotts, mediocre reliever at best. El Duque was incredibly old and possibly older than he let on. Buehrle gave up a lot of homeruns and wasn't the type to get a big strikeout.
