  1. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 01:19 PM) Why would the Phillies do that?
  2. If for some reason Greg turns out to be correct and Paulie comes into ST as the starting first baseman, I'm finding a new team. He won't, but I imagine if Robin tried it he would be fired immediately.
  3. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 06:25 PM) The article in this thread says that if multiple teams make the highest bid, then the team with the worst winning percentage would win the bidding process. So assuming that statement is correct, if we bid $20M the only teams that can beat us out are the Astros and the Marlins. Unfortunately, I don't see him getting past Houston, but I don't see why you wouldn't offer the max and see if you can sign him to a Darvish like deal (but with a much smaller fee). So what if he decides to not go with the Astros. Does it move to the next team?
  4. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 05:45 PM) The way I understand it is this. If multiple teams bid the max then tanaka would be able to negotiate with all the winning bidders for the best contract and then sign. Correct me if I'm wrong. It will be either that or draft order. I can't see Houston or Miami beating the Sox if Hahn wanted him. Especially if Hahn also wanted to keep him from the Cubs.
  5. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 05:38 PM) Sorry but a $20M bid won't win. Considering it's the max you can bid, it would.
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 10:06 AM) To me, that would essentially be a plea bargain and an admission of some guilt. So he's out $43 million, he never gets to play again, and he's a PED user. May as well fight it. If he loses, he's made a lot of money, and if he wins, he gets even more money. Yup. I'm with A-Rod on this to. MLB deserves to get hit hard, as do the Yankees. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 02:45 PM) It only took two failed drug tests, one suspension, and one character assassination When you've got nothing to lose...
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 04:29 PM) Mark Gonzales ‏@MDGonzales 27m If Nippon Pro Baseball accepts $20mil max posting fee with team with worst record gets first shot at Tanaka - Hou, Miami, CWS, Cubs.lined up If that is true, I'd put the Sox chances as quite high.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 02:07 AM) He will have a very good year. You heard it here first. Thank goodness he's back. Gives me a reason to watch this pathetic team and maybe buy mlb.com again. Don't flame me, but can Dunn play left field? I'd rather see a platoon of Dunn/Viciedo out there. Let DeAza play center and Garcia right. Abreu DH. Can Abreu play LF? Nope, Dunn and Abreu aren't playing the OF. Paulie is a backup DH greg, nothing more.
  9. Surprise twist: Keppinger is starting catcher!
  10. People realize that a deal for Sale would be the biggest price paid for any pitcher ever, right?
  11. After JDA, I'm not ruling the Sox out if Hahn wants him. Sale - Tanaka - Quintana - Johnson - Danks/Santiago looks damn good on paper.
  12. Like I've said before... The price of Sale is astronomical and unprecedented. Look at what the A's got for Haren, now make it bigger.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 01:40 AM) I know Bill James personally. He lives in Lawrence as you know. And to all the statniks ... Bill James wrote a long long long essay in one of his books about the fact there is no such thing as "protection" in a lineup. In other words, let's say Adam Dunn is batting third and Abreu fourth. The performance of Dunn has nothing to do with how Abreu hits. That is according to the stat guru, Bill James. He says lineup protection is a myth (unless he's changed his stance on this). I know you all will disagree with James on this so what do you think of him now? I am confident, however, that James can identify baseball talent and his Red Sox now have AJP. That means Bill is projecting another good to great year from AJP. Meanwhile, we let him go LAST YEAR when he still could have been our catcher. Not smart. Greg is citing Bill James. I don't understand the world anymore.
  14. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 08:07 PM) Comparing the 4th pick in the draft to one of the greatest centers of all time is lowering expectations? I meant it that I love how they've been trying to temper their expectations since Stevenson/LeBron. Then boom. This draft. They've thrown it all out the window. I find it funny.
  15. I give it to Jordan due to the 3rd verse.
  16. I love NBADraft's player comparisons for this draft, after they lowered expectations after DeShawn Stevenson = Jordan... 1. Wiggins = Pippen 2. Parker = Carmelo 3. Exum = Penny 4. Embiid = Olajuwon/Bynum 5. Randle = Larry Johnson/Mashburn 6. Smart = Harden
  17. LMAO at Greg citing Bill James and Sabermetrics for the Red Sox signing AJ. Is greg now a statnik?
  18. Deng boosts trade value, Bulls lose. The tank rolls on. Have to debate on Taj, whether he'd be best to keep or if some team would overpay with a high first rounder for some insane reason.
  19. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 10:39 PM) Worst trade ever! Fire KW We effectively got Daniel Webb and Myles Jaye for Daniel Hudson. That being said SIGN HIM NOW. He's in the same situation as Floyd, but better.
  20. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 30, 2013 -> 10:47 PM) What did you learn? Boo family?
  21. I'm now a huge Michigan State fan. Mad I didn't go to the Mizzou game tonight, but I decided to spend one more day at home with family.
  22. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Nov 28, 2013 -> 12:17 PM) Mirotic comes of the bench. We have no idea how good he is anyways. Or you could play Monroe at C if someone blows you away for Noah. Taj would obviously get dumped somewhere in this scenario. While he's still here, the Bulls would finally have 4 real bigs so the starters don't have to play 40. Boozer plays out the string off the bench and then gets amnesty'd. Do we really care about his minutes at this point? Putting it that way, then yeah, I'd be good with just Deng for Monroe. I'd want them to keep the pick because they are going to need cheap talent on the bench and GarPax generally makes good picks. But you can't dump Taj, you need legitimate value for him. Edit: Bulls would need to take back someone like Charlie V for the contract to work, but yeah, I'd be cool with it.
  23. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 28, 2013 -> 11:50 AM) Oh ok then that makes sense. I just can't help but laugh when I see Parker > Wiggins. And it's mostly bulls/illini fans. Somethin' tragic would have to happen for Wiggins not to blow up the nba. Yeah, Wiggins has the monster athleticism. Randle is just a huge, athletic inside monster. Exum (from what little I've seen) just sees the game incredibly smoothly and has the athleticism and shooting to compliment it. Parker still has great athleticism, but he also seems to have a chip on his shoulder and massive amount of skill for someone so young, making me think he'll never be content to rely on his athleticism and existing skill. Basically, you can't go wrong with any of the four and I think Jabari is most attainable.

    QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Nov 28, 2013 -> 12:34 PM) Happy Thanksgivukkah! I'm making some potato pancakes as well.
