yeah and I once saw a man going for a run while smoking a cigarette at the same time.

only Fox News would report a story on what Kerry "said" without including an actual quote from him. Remember now.. this is Geraldo reporting, not a reputable anchorman.

Radio Host Calls Rice 'Aunt Jemima' Fri Nov 19,12:33 AM ET U.S. National - AP By JAMES A. CARLSON, Associated Press Writer MILWAUKEE - A radio talk show host drew criticism Thursday after calling Condoleezza Rice (news - web sites) an "Aunt Jemima" and saying she isn't competent to be secretary of state. John Sylvester, the program director and morning personality on WTDY-AM in Madison, said in a phone interview Thursday that he used the term on Wednesday's show to describe Rice and other blacks as having only a subservient role in the Bush administration. Rice has served as President Bush (news - web sites)'s national security adviser and was named this week to replace the departing Colin Powell (news - web sites) as secretary of state. Sylvester, who is white, also referred to Powell as an "Uncle Tom" — a contemptuous term for a black whose behavior toward whites is regarded as fawning or servile. He said Thursday night that he was referring to remarks by singer and civil rights activist Harry Belafonte that the price of admittance for blacks to the Bush White House was subservience. As for Rice, "they're using her for an illusion of inclusion," he said, adding that he feels her history as national security adviser showed a lack of competence. Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz called the remarks "racially insensitive," while Sen. Russ Feingold (news, bio, voting record), D-Wis., said in a statement he joined "all Wisconsinites in rejecting" the statements. Linda Hoskins of the NAACP's Madison branch said she could not comment on Sylvester's remarks until she had heard them in their entirety. The station's corporate office received about 100 calls about his comments, Sylvester said. He added that he has a long history of commitment to civil rights and has supported Madison's black community. He said he was planning a giveaway on Friday's show of Aunt Jemima pancake mix and syrup. "I will apologize to Aunt Jemima," he said. The incident came after a radio host in Milwaukee had his talk show taken off the air all of last week after he used word "wetback" to refer to undocumented Mexican immigrants, sparking protests from Hispanics.

the fact that Brownbeck is heading a Science Committee is funny enough.
-
honestly... would you rather have Joe Crede and Willie Harris or Vinnie Castilla and Christian Guzman?
-
you're right.. the teams that we successful last year haven't done anything yet this year. However the teams that need to improve (like the White Sox) have been busy making moves early and getting what they need now rather then wait for the scraps later.
-
I've been patient since 1979... hasn't 25 years of patience been long enough?
-
another day goes by without the Sox making any moves. :sleep It's going to be a long off-season.

I can picture Dave Chapelle saying that.

what can you say? Some people just don't get it. If they want to believe in Santa, the Easter Bunny and the tooth fairy too, that's fine by me. Because remember, blind faith holds more truth that actual science.

where's Ford? He's harder to track down than Cheney. now that I think about it.. where's Gore? -
i'm surprised this didn't come up during the debates. I think Kerry would have hit a key audience if he would have disputed claims if Bush keeping us safe.. I can picture it now... "He can't find Osama Bin Laden... he can't find the weapons of mass destruction and he can't find the Anthrax suspect." Then again Kerry missed many opportunities so why not add this one to the list.

someone please tell me why telling the public where their food comes from is a bad thing? GOP Seeks Repeal of Food Label Requirement 56 minutes ago Politics - U. S. Congress By LIBBY QUAID, Associated Press Writer WASHINGTON - Telling consumers where their meat, fruit and vegetables came from seemed such a good idea to U.S. ranchers and farmers in competition with imports that Congress two years ago ordered the food industry to do it. But meatpackers and food processors fought the law from the start, and newly emboldened Republicans now plan to repeal it before Thanksgiving. As part of the 2002 farm bill, country-of-origin labeling was supposed to have gone into effect this fall. Congress last year postponed it until 2006. Now, House Republicans are trying to wipe it off the books as part of a spending bill they plan to finish this month. House Majority Whip Roy Blunt, R-Mo., said he expected the Senate to agree to repealing the measure, whose main champion two years ago was Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, D-S.D. "I can't find any real opposition to doing exactly what we want to do here," Blunt said. President Bush (news - web sites) never supported mandatory labeling. Chances for repealing the law improved when Daschle, still his party's leader in the Senate, was defeating for re-election Nov. 2. Daschle indicated through a spokesman this week that he probably will not fight the repeal. Those who want the repeal say the labeling system is so expensive that it far outweighs any benefit to consumers. The Agriculture Department has estimated the cost could range from hundreds of millions to billions of dollars in the first year alone. "Everybody realized it was going to cost a lot of money, and ranchers were going to have to bear most of that," said Sen. Jim Talent (news, bio, voting record), R-Mo., chairman of a Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry subcommittee on the issue. Food processors and other opponents of mandatory labeling say they are amenable to voluntary labels. Grocery Manufacturers Association spokeswoman Stephanie Childs cited the government's voluntary standards for labeling organic food and said, "That's the sort of thing we should be looking toward." Supporters of the labeling requirement says opponents want the repeal so producers will not have to spend money getting ready to follow the law. The House Agriculture Committee approved legislation this year to substitute a voluntary system for the current law. The issue divides cattlemen and other livestock producers. Many of the bigger livestock and feedlot operations, as well as food processors, do not want mandatory labeling. Producers in favor of mandatory labels believe consumers will prefer U.S.-grown food over foreign imports. The law requires companies to put country-of-origin labels on meat, vegetables and fruit. "We really feel that country-of-origin labeling is one of the key things we need to keep ourselves competitive in that market. I understand the trade-offs," said Doran Junek, a rancher in Brewster, Kan. Junek also is executive director of the Kansas Cattlemen's Association, an affiliate of R-CALF United Stockgrowers of America. Consumer groups say the issue is whether buyers have a right to know where their food came from. "When nutrition labeling was suggested by advocates 25 years ago, the industry kept saying, `Oh, we can't do that,'" said Carol Tucker Foreman, director of food policy for the Consumer Federation of America. "Look, they've done it. They love it. Consumers use it." The wrangling does not affect fish because Congress did not include fish last year when it delayed the mandatory labeling. Fresh and frozen fish will be required to carry labels beginning in April. ___

They should Rostinkowski him. Off to Prison!

I could really give a rats ass about some of the Red States like Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, Utah, Wyoming etc... but there's absolutely no reason why my party can compete in Arkansas, Louisiana, Florida, Ohio, Nevada, Colorado, Iowa, Missouri, Virgina, North Carolina and Georgia. I don't think those states are considered flyover states.

my apologies.. I didnt write the article. It was an excerpt from an MSNBC.com article. The article itself was probably 3 pages long, so I just took out the meat and potatoes of the guy's arguement. The thing that struck me as odd was the whole marriage thing. I found that interesting.

Dye hit .265 last year with 23 HR and 80 RBI with a .329 OBP. Kendall hit .319 last year with 3 HR and 51RBI with a .399 OBP. Dye doesn't seem to fit the high OBP, small-ball mold KW is looking for.

discuss amongst yourselves... My first reaction to it was: "F*$@ you and your f*%!#@&% moral values!" My second reaction was: Since when are liberal values immoral? If you take the central issues that liberals fight for—a clean environment, fair wages for working people, expanded civil rights, the rights of homosexual adults to copulate freely—these are ultimately American values. Yes, we liberals sometimes think we know better than you do—but, unlike the president, we don't make it the central pillar of our campaign. My third reaction was: What good are "moral values" anyway? The five states with the highest divorce rates in the country are Nevada, Arkansas, Idaho, Florida and Alabama—all of them red! And the two lowest? The bluest of the blue: the District of Columbia and Massachusetts (with heathen New York and Connecticut closely behind)! My fourth reaction was: If abortion is such a big issue to these moral value folks, why don't they support gay marriages—the only abortion-free relationships? My fifth and final reaction was: How can these Red States people cite moral values, yet ignore the immorality of a war that has caused the death of tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of people? If anyone should be beating the war drum, it should be we here in immoral New York, which has been—and will always be—the terrorists' favorite target. We don't go a day without reliving the horror of September 11—not the abstract, "Wow, that was horrible" horror that the rest of the country (besides Washington D.C.) lives with, but the genuine horror of smelling burnt flesh and watching people jump out of 100th-story windows of the now-gone Twin Towers—yet most of us voted against the president who went to war in our names.

like it or not, this issue will not go away anytime soon. In my opinion this is the 3rd wave of the Civil Rights movement in this country. First conservatives and many dixie-crats wanted to keep women in the home and unable to vote. This failed. Second conservatives and again many dixie-crats were against giving African Americans the right to vote and equal opportunities. This failed. This is the third leg of the race. Again many conservatives and dixie-crats are against this idea too. They in the end will fail again, it's just a matter of time.
