QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 09:17 PM) I had a friend who did this with the Tampa Bay Rays. Try selling season tickets for them, back in 2005-06. no idea what he does now. left the rays in 2006 and never went back. he's probably had 5 jobs in 7 years.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 08:34 PM) I'm pretty sure damn near everyone starts in sales. I had a friend who did this with the Tampa Bay Rays. Try selling season tickets for them, back in 2005-06.

2009, the Sox ended with an average game attendance (tickets sold) of 28,199. 2008, it was 30,877 2007, it was 33,140 2006, it was 36,511 Right now, the average is 25,662 with 32 more home games to go. That means, they'll need to average 32,083 per game for the rest of the way to avoid a 4th straight year of attendance dropoffs. During this 3 game home series vs Seattle, they have averaged 30,007 per night. (incl the massive 38,815 showing on Monday) To help, they've got a 3 game home weekend Series vs the Yankees that I'm sure will be a 100% sellout, along with a 4 game home series vs the Red Sox forthcoming.

What Congress Bought Itself With Your $1 Billion

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 02:15 PM) You know why the deficit has exploded the past 24 months? It has something to do with another thing that starts with an r and ends with an n well its also a mathematical exageration too. people who want to make the case that Obama has increased our deficit 3x that of Bush, are taking Obama's budget (which includes the 2 wars) and comparing it against Bush's budget (which did not include the 2 wars). I've read someplace, and I would need to google search it to get more info, that 2 biggest causes in the multiplication of the deficit are (1) The reduction in government tax receipts due to the recession and (2) The whole Obama includes wars and Bush doesn't calc. (3) was the stimulus spending. -

What Congress Bought Itself With Your $1 Billion

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 07:53 PM) I thought the narrative was more like "Well, it's ONLY a $xxxx, and that alone won't solve the problem so why worry about it"? Can they cut half that travel expense? If so, then why not do it? And so on for all the departments. truthfully, i agree in principal. but we are ignoring the large spending problems (military, social security, etc) to focus on the little sh*t. it's a waste of time resources. its like worrying that you left the iron on, while your house is burning to the ground. -

this is all part of the recent extreme narrative in this country... govt spending is out of control and frivilous. we shouldnt spend money on anything. our congress people should be reusing toilet paper to save the 5 cents in tax dollars "of my money" each year. (even though 60% of all people pay very little in taxes and its really not your money) In addition, everyone in this country is overpaid except me. Doctors, Lawyers, Athletes, Politicians, Teachers, etc. Every though I've only got my HS equivilency degree im just as important as a cashier at the local farm store as the superintendent at the local school district. -

and we've only spent 100x that amount, each year, for the past 7 years, in Iraq. -
Should the US consider selling its gold reserves?
jasonxctf replied to jasonxctf's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 12:57 PM) Gold is absurdly overbought as it is, so frankly if I'm the US government, I might consider selling some it now. well if they did, you would have to do a slow sell, like the stock holdings in the banks and car companies. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 11:36 PM) So, you'd argue that deficit spending is ok in times of economic expansion and a bad thing in times of economic contraction. which is the exact opposite of Macro Economics 101.

if these numbers are correct, and this is from October 2009.... The US currently holds 261,499,000 fine troy ounces in its reserves. US International Reserve Position, US Treasury The amount today would be approximately $8,000 per troy ounce. 261,499,000 x 8,000= $2.09 Trillion http://jessescrossroadscafe.blogspot.com/2...ave-in-its.html

Your 2010 White Sox All Star- Matt Thornton

i dont care if you have 21 HR. You hit .229, you dont deserve to be an all-star, especially on the player ballot. -
im going to go out on a limb here and give McDonalds some credit. 5 years ago, I'd say that yes, they carry have heavy burden (no pun intended) to the obesity issue here in the US. Since then, I think they've gotten a lot better. The burgers are still there, however in the kids meals they offer apples and milk instead of fries and coke. For adults, they got those garden salads along with the grilled chicken sandwiches. The problem now sits with the individual consumer who chooses (like I do) for the crap food rather than the healthy stuff. Now my only excuse is that I'm 6'3 and 170lbs.
-
i used to think that obesity was tied to weather... cold weather=sit in the house and stay warm rather than walk around, tourist stuff, etc. but looking at this list, it seems like the exact opposite.
-
im just asking... not attacking. Mississippi weighed in for the sixth year in a row as the fattest state, with 33.8 percent of its adults obese, while Alabama and Tennessee tied for second (31.6 percent). The other top 10, also concentrated in the south, were West Virginia, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Arkansas, South Carolina and Michigan tying with North Carolina for 10th place (29.4 percent). So of the Top 10 most obese/fat states, 8 are deep red states with 1 deep blue and 1 in between. (NC) The healthiest states in terms of weight were congregated in the Northeast and West. Colorado (19.1 percent) came in first, followed by Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Massachusetts, Hawaii, Vermont, Rhode Island, Utah, Montana and New Jersey. The District of Columbia was the only region to experience a decline in obesity rates. So of the Top 10 healthiest states, 7 are deep blue with 2 deep red and 1 in between. (CO) Again is this a coincidence or is their a correlation between lifestyle and political affiliation?

QUOTE (Tex @ Jun 25, 2010 -> 04:16 PM) As I've been pondering this whole process I've come to a single thought, actually a question, about health care in this country. Does the requirement for profit that drives a corporation help or hurt the quality of health care they deliver to the patient? When a customer walks into a car dealer, the employee of the car dealer they meet has the task of maximizing the profit the company makes both short term and long term. Same with walking into a restaurant, beach shop, or gas station. Does that also work in a Doctor's office or hospital? For most Americans, the people who are paying the bill (your insurance) and the people preparing the bill (the provider) both are trying to earn a profit from your visit. Seems like a losing play. i'll take it a step further... should someones ability to be kept alive (either through medicine or treatment) be a for-profit making venture? for comparison, we've decided that keeping someones house from burning down should not be a for-profit venture.
