Diners Drive Ins and Dives... go straight to the source. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cec8bEaILCE This place is in the UIC neighborhood. One of my favorites. 15 minute drive from the museums down Roosevelt Road. Cash Only though.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 01:05 AM) Except for the Harold's on Wabash and White Palace on Roosevelt. A walk, but not too far. Manny's is probably 2 blocks further

i know, rather than guessing or reading crazy forecasts/theories about the new law.... we just sit tight for 10 years and see what actually happens. Then fix what may not be working well.

seriously if its you and your girlfriend, looking for a romantic dinner go to Geja's. It's not too far from Wrigley either. http://www.gejascafe.com/ I'll agree with everyone else here... Field Museum for sure. Enjoy "Sue."

QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ May 22, 2010 -> 04:52 PM) I'm heading up to Chicago for the first time in 6 years or so for July 4th weekend. We'll get in Thursday morning and leave on Sunday the 4th. I need some suggestions on things to do. Time will be somewhat limited. We'll have all day Thursday, but are going to Cubs-Reds games (yes I know its a Sox board, but the Sox weren't in town!) My questions are: 1. Tell me about Taste of Chicago. Is it worth spending time there? Worth catching after one of the afternoon games? What kind of entertainment will there be? Total waste of time. It's way too crowded to even enjoy yourself. 2. Does anyone know of any other events going on that weekend? Has anyone ever done any of the boat tours? There is an architecture tour and a skyline tour? Any input? Are there dinner cruises at night? Boat tours of the Arch Tour along the River are neat as are some of the boat cruises from Navy Pier. Some have dinner others are just 1 hr tours. Can be pricey. 3. Will there be a big fireworks show downtown on Saturday the 3rd or will we miss out having to fly back on the 4th? Cancelled the fireworks show this year due to costs. 4. Suggestions for places to eat? We'll be doing pizza one night for sure. Mostly likely Giordano's or Lou Malnati's. We like dive type places, but wouldn't mind a nice dinner one night either. Definitely not looking for chain or corporate places. Want something unique to Chicago. Pizza= Ginos East. Pasta= Tufano's in Little Italy Steaks= Tavern on Rush (near Oak St) Fondue= Geja's in Lincoln Park Lunch spot= Manny's Other Dinner Places= Harry Carry's, Ditka's Italian Ice= Marios on Taylor Street We're staying at the Sutton Place Hotel which is a few blocks north of the Hancock Tower and west of Oak St. Beach. Is Oak St. Beach going to be packed that weekend. I figured on walking to it at least one morning, but not staying long. Thoughts? Oak Street Beach is always packed. That's ok. Try and eat at Oak Street Beachstro. Especially if its nice outside. I used to live about 2 blocks from there. Try going early in the morning. Maybe check out the old Playboy Mansion which is nearby too. Do the Michigan Avenue walk too. Any input on the above or any other ideas would be greatly appreciated. We're using public transportation and time would be limited, so unless something would just blow us away, it needs to be pretty convenient to downtown. Thanks! Subway system is great in the City. Can take you all over the place. Other ideas would be eating on the 95th Floor at the Hancock, taking a Chicago Food Tour. Lincoln Park Zoo (its free). Have a great time. Chicago's the best.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 18, 2010 -> 02:34 PM) ah how I love FauxNews: Obama gives part of Arizona to the Mexicans! oh wait... its funny, no where on the Fox News segment did they mention that this Sheriff also appeared in campaign ads with John McCain. http://www.sheriffpaul.com/news/2010/May07mccain_tv_ad.aspx

best part was seeing my future wife look like a dot on the screen during the World Cup ceremonies in Chicago. (just kidding you couldnt see her) Her high school cheerleading team was performing during the opening ceremonies on the field. According to her, at the time, they all thought the World Cup was "gay."

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 07:41 PM) Not that confusing to me. I'm in each camp. I'm in favor of the law, I'm in favor of some sort of path towards citizenship (with qualifiers), and I think the federal gov't SHOULD be in control of the borders, but since they're content with loop holes/half-ass policy, you get the AZ law (which btw, does nothing to limit federal law, just changes the protocal in AZ for enforcing those laws). i was just thinking... in a very crude comparison... is this situation "similar" to say California walking a tight rope around Federal Drug Laws with Pot Laws/Legislation.

and clearly, America is confused. A new Washington Post/ABC poll finds that 58 percent of Americans support Arizona's tough new immigration law. Support is strongest among Republicans and independents, and least strong among Democrats, especially minority Democrats. Still, the support is qualified in some respects. Even as a majority of Americans back the measure — which gives law enforcement officers authority to check the immigration status of people they have stopped or arrested — 57 percent of Americans also favor giving illegal immigrants who are already in the country a chance to become legal, if they pay fines and meet other requirements. Almost half of Republicans polled also support the path to citizenship for illegal immigrants. In another result that rubs against the logic of the Arizona law, just 46 percent of respondents agree that states should be able to make their own border policies.

and the same thing could hold true with legal looking, but fake documents. what if someone hires an individual who they believe is legal, but ends up not to be. guess its like a liquor store selling beer to a minor with a fake id. their employee looked at the id, believed it was real and made the sale. what happens to the store??? (on a side story, i once worked at a walgreens back in the day when they sold alcohol. Got hit with a underage sting where the clerk didn't check/ask for the ID and sold the underage kid. 15 minutes later, he's walking out the front door in cuffs)

and you just hit the nail on the head. if my family was starving and I had to sneak across the border into Canada to work and get money to support them, as a man, you're damn sure that I would do it.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 04:38 AM) That's not the same thing as amnesty. You want to get rid of them all and make them start over if they want to come back? Ok, fine. Valid point. Now how in the f*** are you going to do that? exactly. oh and by the way, we want smaller government too.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 03:26 PM) It's a seperate offense: Title 8 Section 1325 I'd like them to pay their share or go back home. It being difficult to do isn't a justification for illegal activity. I agree that in the grand scheme of things, cutting in line as you put it isn't THAT big of a deal. The problem is what they do when they get here, which is accept the benefits of being a US citizen without paying their share of the cost. and i think your idea of paying a fine is a fair and good one. But many feel that this is still some level of amnesty. As for not paying their share of the cost three issues come to mind.. 1) Many US Citizens dont pay their share of the cost either. (huge tax breaks, poor people, elderly, etc) 2) If these "illegal" people are working legitimate jobs (restaurants, hotels, packing plants etc) that means that they are getting a paycheck and not being paid in cash. To have their employer cut them a check, they've provided them with fake social security numbers. So in fact, they are paying income tax as its being deducted from them automatically. They buy goods/services at the stores so they are paying sales taxes too. And if they are renting apartments, their rental contributes to property taxes that the landlord is paying. 3) If they in jobs in which they are paid in cash, thus no income taxes are deducted, then I can also think of plenty of US citizens and jobs where a large portion of income is coming in in cash too. I'm sure much of that income (and we're not talking about $5/hr) is not having taxes accounted for too. Here's a quick comment from a recent Newsweek Article... Clinton didn't mention it, but it's not just legal immigrants who contribute to the plus side of the Treasury's balance sheet. In fact, undocumented immigrants are even more lucrative for the government, particularly Social Security. Many undocumented workers have payroll taxes automatically withheld from their wages, but because they use fake numbers, never collect the benefits.

found this interesting. Jake has a 5.62ERA currently. On the Sox there are 6 other pitchers who have an ERA either 1 run lower or higher than him. (actually only Floyd is higher with a 5.64) Of these 7 guys, 5 of which have lower ERA's than Peavy... Jake has the best WHIP Jake has the best BAA In fact, Jake has the 2nd best WHIP for the starters (behind Danks) and the 2nd best BAA for the starters too. (Danks again) So do the numbers lie or has Peavy been the 2nd best starter for the Sox, behind Danks?

oh goodie.. another pitcher in his rookie season that the Sox havent seen before. -
well you are SOL on the lemon law side... http://www.ag.state.il.us/consumers/lemonlaw.html My suggestion, go into the store, when there are plenty of customers around and make a big (and loud) stink about how they sold you a bad car, etc. Push hard on the extended warranty front.

i just wonder about the actual crime that's being committed by these people. Is it trespassing Is it loitering Basically, unless they are doing other "bad" things, their crime is cutting the line. Rather than waiting their turn with INS, they took things into their own hands and came across the border without permission. The other thing I wonder about is, for those people to whom this is a gigantic issue, what do you want to do about it? Assume that there are 10 million people who cut the line, do you want the Federal Government to hire 1,000,000 bounty hunters to track them down to deport them?

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 14, 2010 -> 06:41 PM) sure...but i think if this wasn't a Mexican (literally) we are talking about there would be outrage about killing a teenager. But, lucky for everyone he was just a Mexican and we'll soon see the statement that the officer acted correctly considering he felt threatened. And the rest of us can continue to hypothesize how much a sixty lb. rock would hurt if whipped by a sixteen year old. 60lb rock... shoot if he's got that strength, maybe the Sox should sign him... whoops... forgot.... well I guess sign his friends then.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 12, 2010 -> 09:59 PM) I don't want them here because they are ILLEGAL. But I just don't want them here for votes. Got it. I'm going to play devils advocate. What did they do, that's illegal?

QUOTE (Tex @ Jun 12, 2010 -> 03:09 PM) So what do you think of Arizona rewriting US citizenship laws? And I believe we wil agree on this. Something needs to be done, the walk over and give birth situation is out of control. But the way Arizona is going about it is wrong. We need to change the Constitution, which needs to be done nationally. I'd even go so far as to say it makes Arizona look even crazier, if that was possible. It's actually quite simple. What is a tourist visa allow you in for? 6 months, max? So just like we don't let people into the country with SARS, if you are pregnant, you aren't allowed in the country on a Visitor Visa. Or, they cut down on the Visa length for those who are pregnant, based upon trimester level. Tourist Visa Length of Stay: Persons admitted to the United States on a B-2 Tourist Visa are usually issued a 6-month stay. The maximum length of stay for visitor visa holders is 6 months. The immigration officer at the port of entry determines how long each visitor is allowed to stay in the country. Most visitors have their I-94 cards stamped with a 6-month stay; however the immigration officer has the right to issue a shorter stay on a case by case basis. Upon entry into the United States, the foreign visitor has the right to request an extension of stay.

there's a lot of hatred towards immigrants. always has been. Irish Italian Asian Cultures Right now, the target is on the Hispanic and Middle Eastern ones. Wonder who we'll hate in 20 years.

seriously, how far can a grade school kid throw a rock? 60 yards? Just back the fu*k up. So if a cop is driving down the street in Chicago and some kid throws a rock at him, he can pull out his gun and start shooting?
