QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 07:29 PM) Its also interesting how guys like Jermaine Dye and Paul Konerko come here and have incredible years. Konerko became a White Sox in 1999 Greg Walker became hitting coach in 2003.

since i started the thread, i'll comment here. Yes, it's early. However... 1) I'm happy for the guy. Seemed like a good, team player. Was a very important part of the Sox 2005 WS and basically I'm glad he's doing very well. I hope he goes 0/16 when he plays the Sox, but it makes me smile when I see him killing everyone else and having a lot of success on the basepaths. 2) What's done is done. However, I do shake my head at the decision to get rid of a guy who hit .304 last season. He's a career .280 hitter with some pop and speed. Is he a defensive liability.. sure, even though he had a .992% last year. Does that mean that he doesn't have any value to a team... no. He could have been a nice DH/4th OF player. I hope I'm proven wrong. That Pierre's 2010 performance will be better than Pods's. I trust Kenny to make the right decisions, but I'm afraid he may have missed this one.

QUOTE (Cknolls @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 01:40 PM) Very good chance a correction starts today. Would not surprise me to see mkt down big today into Monday. SPX 1180. If 1180 fails a test of 1150. But the real selloff should occur in July. well at some point here, you've gotta be right at least once.

maybe someone here can answer this question for me. I'm playing a full season (162 games) with the Sox. 15 games in Beckham breaks his hand and is out for 2 months. anyway, why does Pierre or other outfielders throw to homeplate rather than hitting the cutoff man? I hit L2 or even Triangle to throw to 2nd and they airmail it all the way to AJ with the runner moving up a base. WTF

a point to consider, while Walker may not be "responsible" for the actions of the players, he is the coach. And if the players dont respect the coach enough to listen to him, then you need to find a coach who they will respect enough to listen to. Or you replace those players who won't listen.

it will be interesting to see, with some seasoned hitters this year, if they performed better before or after coming to the Sox. if they hit better last year (or years) then this year, the logical question will be why.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 02:25 AM) Getting rid of Pods was the right move, replacing him with a terrible baseball player was the problem. pods started off well this year too. -
Growth of Unpaid Internships May Be Illegal, Officials Say
jasonxctf replied to maggsmaggs's topic in SLaM
i remember being in college and looking for an internship. (i was at uic) MTV/Viacom called for their offices on Michigan Ave. Unpaid and I would basically be responsible for any transportation costs to and from the office too. I said forget it. Found an internship starting at $10/hr that ended up bumping the wage to $13/hr and then hired me fulltime for $35k/yr when I graduated in 2001. -
interesting statistical number... projecting the 2012 presidential election, after the 2010 expected census related changes to the electoral college... if obama has a 5% decrease in voter support, in each and every state, it would cause him to lose 4 states that he had won in 2008. (NC, FL, IN and OH plus 1 vote from NE) if that happened, he wins 286-252. if obama has a 7% decrease in vote support, in each and every state, you can add Virgina to the list. if that happened, he wins 273-265. if obama has a 10% decrease in vote support, in each and every state, you can add Iowa and New Hampshire to the list. if that happened, he loses 275-263. So to summarize, for Obama to lose in 2012, he would need to have to lose 10% of the voting support in each and every state for the Republican candidate to win by 5 votes.
