QUOTE (T R U @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 08:31 AM) I don't know how insurance works I know I need full coverage because I am financing, but I want it to be as bare minimum as it gets.. Unless you are a terrible driver, car insurance is the biggest scam ever.. I don't see why I need to pay $2,000+ a year for something im not going to need.. its been almost 10 years since I had an accident/ticket, and that was literally one month after I got my license when I was 16.. Thats like $20,000-30,000 dollars spent on insurance when I have ever only needed a fraction of that money.. I understand that logic, however imagine if you accidently caused serious damage to someone. (medical) And the bills totalled $200,000. Do you have $200,000 laying around? Shoot, I'm 31. I've got 3 cars insured (mine, wifes and play car), a $400k house insured, wedding rings, and life insurance. I probably pay $2,000 a year for all of that through Allstate and State Farm. Side note on life insurance. Experienced this first hand. My father in law, died back in 2006. Died at 54. He was paying something like $300/yr for life insurance for probably 20 years. So $6,000 total. His widow got $250,000 in life insurance proceeds.

oh... so you're that guy. Avoid Apollo Insurance. Someone hit me who had Apollo. Got an estimate of $700, they said, we'll pay $250. Take it or leave it. I could have had my insurance company chase them (Allstate) but my rep said their success rate with this is 5% and could take up to 2 years. Funny how the difference came in just under my $500 deductible. scam artists.

MLB umpiring this year has been a complete disgrace. I agree with the 1 challenge rule idea. Can be used for safe/out calls on the bases, fair/foul balls, etc. (not balls/strikes or HR's) Like Football replay must be conclusive. Nothing can turn fans away more than blown calls.

Joe Cowley says our season is over: do you agree?
jasonxctf replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Pale Hose Talk
its over. And Cowley is high if he thinks that after a horrible season and lower revenue, that JR is going to go out and spend $20 mil on Cliff Lee. (especially after seeing what Jake Peavy and his contract can do for you) Also, the $18 million or whatever he thinks it will take to get Carl Crawford. What is the highest annual contract amount that the Sox have ever signed, especially long term? $14 million? -
9 men LOB yesterday for Kotsay. That might be a record.

When I posed this question, I thought of it from two totally different perspectives. 1) The Coast Guard saying yesterday that even if we wanted to, we don't own the equipment necessary to make this happen. Basically that government is some respect, is not big enough in this area to be able to assist. So do we, as a society, want a bigger govt that has the tools and resources to respond to issues such as these? 2) I think back to some of those people screaming about welfare and govt spending, but don't take away my medicare or social security.

Is it hypocritical for those who scream for smaller government, to be critical that the federal government hasn't stepped in to take over the oil spill efforts?

QUOTE (Tex @ May 19, 2010 -> 08:37 PM) 2 do, 1 does not. All three have familes, are in the middle years of careers, 10-15 years of experience. not sure if you caught this summary or not. Interesting breakdown of unemployment via education levels. http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2010/05/une...ducational.html

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 19, 2010 -> 08:23 PM) When things are good, people focus more on not letting government grow out of control, so you get the opposite effect. i agree with your first statement. Kind of goes back to the Mommy/Daddy political argument. Not sure about this one though. Look at today. The economy is in the shi*ter (well not as much as before) and some people are screaming their heads off about government growing out of control.

3 Are designed primarily for pupils of a particular ethnic group. What does this mean exactly? Is Hispanic history only for Hispanics? Is black history only for blacks? Isn't this purely subjective? Great point. At UIC, I took African American History since 1865. I'm not African American and neither was the teacher. Is it wrong to divide history up to teach it? You could divide it by time period, gender, race, religion, location (co/state). What about literature. Is a Women's lit class wrong? What about a Hispanic Lit class?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 12, 2010 -> 09:02 PM) For me, it was don't married to a foreign-born model who cares absolutely nothing about baseball, specifically White Sox baseball. Well, I guess we did have Labrador Retrievers, being history majors, love of travelling and going to movies in common....that was about it. But, in retrospect, it was a great learning experience and true eye-opener for me. If I do get married again, I will at least find someone I'm at least 50% compatible with. BTW, does Quentin have a wife? I think so? Maybe he needs some domestic tranquility OR Revolutionary Road quarreling to get his mind freed and cleared to just see the ball and hit the ball...same as Gordo. I remember when Jose Contreras went into the tank, one of the biggest reasons cited was his divorce and marital difficulties. Marriage seems to work wonders for some players (like Konerko, Buehrle, Thome, etc.) in terms of grounding them. Quentins wife http://www.google.com/#hl=en&safe=off&...8d22c3078f81602
