  1. This is when I wonder about the IRS and their abilities to collect. There are so many serious tax cheats in this country, both businesses and individuals. (when I say serious, I mean 10k or more owed) Everyone wants to gripe about entitlement programs, etc.. but its those cheating the system that I worry about more.

  3. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 12:52 AM) was there a scene where W is flying a jet plane drunk? i thought i read something about that. W's passenger was like "is this the first time you've flown a jet?" and W was like "this is how you learn" that scene was not part of the movie. I agree about the relationship between 41 and 43. That was by far the most interesting plot line of the movie. I think the pretzel scene(s) were used to transform the movie from current tense to past tense, when he was remembering things from his past.
  4. saw it and almost felt sorry for gwb afterwards.
  5. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 06:28 PM) someone post this in the clubhouse for the Sox.
  6. FYI, to avoid the $700 billion buyout package, US tax-payers/investors, lost $1 trillion in value yesterday in the market.

I'm not so sure Democracy is sustainable. To all my IL-10 homies though, our guy came through for us. so did the IL-14 guy, who lives in my subdivision.
  8. god, what made this guy turn so sleezy. i swear, i had so much respect for this guy until this past year.. wtf?
  9. When Couric asked how Alaska's closeness to Russia enhanced her foreign policy experience, Palin said, "Well, it certainly does because our ... our next-door neighbors are foreign countries." Alaska shares a border with Canada. Does this mean that the Govenors of say, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Washington, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, Michigan, New York, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine also have foreign policy experience?
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 22, 2008 -> 06:24 PM) Dodd is an idiot if thinks this program is going to make a profit. Its either that or a completely transparent pandering going on. every bailout in US history has been profitable for the US government and tax payers... just an FYI.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 12, 2008 -> 10:19 PM) The big flaw in this line of thinking is obvious. The Republicans had an uncontested primary. There were more than a few forces urging republican voters to turn out in the Democratic primary for various reasons (Both candidates and the Republicans all tried to do that). There is plenty of reason to believe that some percentage of the people who voted in the Dem Primary are McCain supporters. as was 2004 for both parties. thus my point was, what caused the spike in primary voters this year? newbies or competition. if 25% of those "extra" voters were newbies that creates a whole new playing field to draw votes from.
  12. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Sep 12, 2008 -> 09:03 PM) Interesting voter total notes to keep in mind. Ohio In 2004, 2,739,952 votes were for Kerry. During the 2008 primary, 2,233,156 votes were cast for Democratic candidates. Overall there was a 40% voter turnout in the 2008 Ohio primary. In 2004, 67% of the eligable voters showed up. (28% during the primary or 1,221,014) Virgina In 2004, 1,454,742 votes were for Kerry. During the 2008 primary, 973,981 votes were cast for Democratic candidates. Overall there was a 26.9% voter turnout during the primary. In 2004, 61% of the eligable voters showed up. (7.5% during the primary or 395,903) So, in comparison to 2004, 1,012,142 extra people voted in the Ohio Democratic primary and 578,078 extra people voted in the Virgina Democratic primary. That is what I think these polls are missing when they try and estimate "likely" voters. You are not considered a likely voter if you didn't vote in 2004 even if you were elibable. So in these pollsters minds, these 1.6 million extra people who showed up during the primaries are not likely voters. i'll take it a step further... if you assume that 50% of these extra primary voters are newbies or didn't vote in 2004, and that McCain gets the same amount of votes as GWB did in 2004... OHIO McCain= 2,858,727 Obama= 3,246,023 VIRGINA McCain= 1,716,959 Obama= 1,743,781 if you drop the newbie level down to 25% of the extra primary voters... OHIO McCain= 2,858,727 Obama= 2,992,987 VIRGINA McCain= 1,716,959 Obama= 1,599,261 So IMO, if Obama can turn out the vote like he did during the primaries, Ohio flips and this race is OVA.

  16. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 03:17 PM) In this case though, most of them were missing the most important qualification: a vagina. Of course it's a political stunt. there is no doubt in my mind that it is. which doesn't bother me that much. but to go with a stunt at this level is embarassing. Kay Bailey Hutchinson, Carly Fiorina, Meg Whittman, Susan Collins, etc.....
  17. Palin and Her Supporters Ignore Facts About Aerial Wolf Hunting Letters / Anchorage Daily News / October 16, 2006 A recent letter from the McMurroughs of Moose Pass applauded Sarah Palin's pro-aerial killing stance with astoundingly misguided reasoning ("Palin's stand on killing wolves will win a lot of votes if she holds to it," Sept. 28). That Alaska employs professional biologists doesn't mean it uses them or their data properly. The 77 pages of corrections forced from the Board of Game included much concerning their misuse and ignorance of data. With a governor who owes a political debt to extremists like the Alaska Outdoor Council and appoints a Fish and Game commissioner who serves at his whim, the pressure from above can produce results not in keeping with good science. The McMurroughs' remark about outsiders indicates how out of touch they are with the fact that 83 percent of Alaskans polled oppose aerial hunting. They ignore two statewide votes banning the practice. And they neglect surveys showing 71 percent of Alaska hunters also disapprove. The McMurroughs seem unaware that two groups of Alaska hunters and trappers are working to abolish aerial hunting. Like Palin, the McMurroughs choose to be blind to what a very large majority of Alaskans are saying. Finally, their statement that our wolves will never be endangered shows how little they understand history. Wolves and grizzlies were virtually exterminated across our nation, and millions of buffalo were reduced to a few thousand. When you have snow machines, aerial gunners and harvest seasons extending into birthing period, extinction becomes a very real possibility. ---- Martin Haley / Anchorage
  18. call it a gut feeling, but even though McCain says he knew about this in advance, I don't buy it. If he did know, then he's really out of his mind. The pick of Palin was the "Moral Highground" pick, to pander to his base and to try and peal off any angry Clintonites. 1) This doesn't fit well with the moral highground road. How will the evangelicals feel that their lead by example mother, has serious motherly faults? 2) The more we find out about Palin (pro-life, anti sex ed in schools, etc) the more she comes off as an anti-Clinton woman. Also, do we know anything about the father? Who he is?
  19. well that dude was already on board. later in that article it shows how his only current job is to get McCain elected. He could have nominated my aunt sally, and Sarver would have said it was an excellent choice.
  20. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 06:50 PM) It will help for with the far right. She is also for the teaching of creationism in public schools. check out the front page of yahoo "how sarah palin went from hockey mom to John McCain's VP choice in just 2 years"
  21. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 05:26 PM) 683,000 people live in Alaska. What the mayor of Rockford, IL wasn't interested? actually this isn't fair. Alaska is about 3x the size of Rockford, Illinois. More accurate comparison would be the cities of Louisville, Milwaukee, El Paso, Baltimore, Charlotte, Memphis, Fort Worth, Austin, Columbus, Indianapolis, etc. So Sarah Palin has the same "executive" experience as say, the mayor of Columbus, OH, except for the fact that the mayor of Columbus has been in this position since 1999.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 05:14 PM) I'm still waiting for someone to tell me the big bipartisian achievement that Obama has made. you can start with "All Kids Covered" here in Illinois. I believe he played an important role in that, but I may be mistaken. You can also google search the Lugar-Obama bill and the Coburn-Obama transparency bill.

  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 05:44 PM) What "relevant" executive experience does he have? I don't think Obama has even managed a little league team. Obama held assignments on the Senate Committees for Foreign Relations, Environment and Public Works and Veterans' Affairs through December 2006.[68] In January 2007, he left the Environment and Public Works committee and took additional assignments with Health, Education, Labor and Pensions and Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.[69] He also became Chairman of the Senate's subcommittee on European Affairs.[70] As a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Obama has made official trips to Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia and Africa.
