  1. NEW YORK (AP)—A full World Series share was worth $351,504 for the Philadelphia Phillies, below the record $362,173 set by the St. Louis Cardinals two years ago. Major League Baseball said Tuesday that the players’ pool for the postseason was $51.16 million, down from $52.46 million last year and a record $55.60 million in 2006. Phillies players received $18.42 million and split it among 45 full shares, 7.039 partial shares and 15 cash awards. Last year, a full share on the World Series champion Boston Red Sox was worth $308,236, with players awarding 47 full shares, 14 partial shares and 11 cash awards. A full share on the Tampa Bay Rays, who lost to Philadelphia in five games, was worth $223,390, down from the $233,505 for a full share on the 2007 NL champion Colorado Rockies. The Rays voted 43 full shares, 10.645 partial shares and 27 cash awards. World Series ticket prices were basically the same for the third consecutive year. For some of the first two round of the postseason, the attendance-challenged Rays kept tarps over some upper-deck seats, decreasing capacity. The players’ pool includes 60 percent of ticket money from the first four games of the World Series, the first four games of each league championship series and the first three contests of each division series. Full shares for the league championship series losers came to $102,231 for the Red Sox and $102,794 for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Among first-round losers, full shares were worth $32,002 for the Los Angeles Angels, $28,296 for Milwaukee, $27,828 for the Chicago White Sox and $25,033 for the Chicago Cubs. For second-place teams that didn’t make the playoffs, full shares were worth $11,079 for Minnesota, $10,618 for Texas, $9,469 for Arizona and $9,186 for the New York Mets.

  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 05:17 PM) It's actually fairly remarkable how small the difference would likely be between 59/41 and 60/40 if you have a strong President setting the agenda and a press willing to treat the filibuster as a "bad, obstructionist thing". Remember...2010 is 6 years after the 2004 elections. In other words, there's 1 last group of Bush/9/11 Senate Republicans who have to face the voters in 2 years. Here is a list of those up in Nov 2010. Tipping

the waiters and waitresses and even pizza guys, i understand. even though i think their employers should pay them a fair wage in the first place, not requiring me to pay them 80% of their income. i'd rather pay $8 for a burger w/o tipping versus $6 for one and have to tip. i forgot about the bathroom guys, man they drive me insane.

    Tipping

am I the only person who is getting annoyed with the whole concept of tipping. say bah humbug if you want, but it's insane. Waitresses, Starbucks, hotel workers, cab drivers, flower delivery guys, etc... when is getting paid to do your job, not enough. shouldn't tipping be used to reward those who go above-and-beyond, not just the bare minimum? should i start tipping the employees at McDonalds now too?
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 05:05 PM) Probably depends on whether you count the money coming in for Thome, Cabrera. which i assume, you would...

  16. UPDATE.. 17% of the votes counted, Coleman's lead is up to 181.
  17. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 01:57 AM) Yeah, I'm sure that's it. Coleman has challenged 105 Franken votes. Franken has challenged 89 Coleman votes. You don't think there is some negotiation/strategy involved in these challenges issued by Franken or Coleman's lawyers?
  18. that's cool.. love the Sox hat too.
  19. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 01:50 AM) http://blogs2.startribune.com/blogs/whistl...ar-in-plymouth/ One of the ballots that Frankin is contesting. my guess, is that he's just trying to set presidence. (spl?) So if similar situations come up on Franken ballots, he can have them honored as well.
  20. by the way, i find it interesting that there is a county in MN called Chisago.
  21. whoops.. when i posted, 10% of the precincts had reported. then Franken had a 800 and change lead. With 12%, Coleman now has a 195 vote lead. guess it really is real-time.
  22. Franken has taken the lead in Minnesota. This link is supposedly real time. http://ww2.startribune.com/news/metro/elec...unt/msenco.html
  23. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 09:23 PM) This is PURELY about 60 caucusing Dems, vs. 59 caucusing Dems. Period. They smell blood in the water with the last three races up in the air. Otherwise, they would have dumped his ass real quicklike. there's no way they win Georgia.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 05:45 PM) Actually...no it doesn't. At least in terms of being able to run things. The only time that it was ever structured so that vote-flipping or vote changing mid-session would result in a change of leadership in the Senate was in 2000, when it was actually tied 50/50. This year, just like in the other Senates, changing 1 or 2 seats doesn't change who winds up running the machinery of the Senate. so if Biden resigned, and it stood at 49-49 until January, who is the majority leader?
