  1. well per MLB.com, Thornton is hitting 3rd and playing LF. According to Scott Reifert, is Carlos Quentin
  2. 1. Anderson 2. Getz 3. Thornton?? 4. Thome 5. Dye 6. Konerko 7. AJP 8. Ramirez 9. Fields P- Buehrle
  3. i guess its something i dont understand. if you don't want to sign autographs, that's fine. but as you are jogging back to the dugout after warmups, how hard is it to waive to the fans and say Hi... or Go Sox or something like that? I guess they call it "big-leaguing" for a reason.
  4. yeah i know that some guys have bad days or whatever. just a small sample size from the 2 games I went too. I'd say worst would be those guys who blow past fans screaming their names without even acknowledging their prescence. not a wave, smile or anything.
  5. came back from Spring Training last week. Thought I'd share on some of the fan-friendly players/coaches I saw while i was there. (signing for kids, talking with fans, etc) BEST - Jim Thome - Jeff Cox - Chris Getz - Jeff Marquez - Dwayne Wise - Josh Fields OK - Paul Konerko - Jerry Owens - DJ Carrasco - Gordon Beckham - Octavio Dotel - Ozzie Guillen - Harold Baines WORST - AJP - Bobby Jenks - Wilson Betemit - Brent Lillibredge - Brian Anderson
  6. QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Mar 27, 2009 -> 07:03 PM) You know, i can honestly say i never noticed that AL pitchers hit during Spring Training games. I always figured they just used DHs for the AL teams, even when the NL is home. Clayton just pitched on Sunday too. Surprised about the 5 day rotation in Spring Training.
  7. QUOTE (CubKilla @ Mar 17, 2009 -> 03:45 AM) You're joking right? i think cook county is cheap in comparison to the collar counties. my parents house in cook county has a fair market value of probably $300,000. They pay approx $5k in property taxes per year. my house in kane county has a fair market value of probably $460,000. I pay approx $10k in property taxes per year. maybe its different in the city, but comparing burbs in Cook to burbs in Kane, Kane is probably 25-30% higher than Cook.
  8. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Mar 17, 2009 -> 01:36 AM) overall taxation including fees, sales tax, state income tax and such is a better way to look at it. raising the state income tax by 50% in Illinois obviously raises the total tax burden for a state resident. from your cited wiki page and we all know that has fixed their budget issues understand, but the topic referenced income tax. so i kept to the subject.
  9. State Income Tax from Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_income_tax
  10. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Mar 15, 2009 -> 01:40 AM) some guy was in this thread ranting about how illinois had the lowest tax rates. illinois is only 30th on the high tax list. lets go for #1! that some guy was me... and Illinois currently does have the lowest income tax level in the country. There are 7 states that dont have an income tax, so we are the lowest of the 43 that do. #30 was a tax formula that computed federal taxes, income taxes, property taxes, sales taxes, etc, i believe.
  11. how many slow, sluggers does this lineup need? Konerko Thome Dye AJP Fields Quentin (not that slow, but still) Ramirez is fast, so that helps. But we don't need 1 or 2 more station-to-station players.
  12. QUOTE (lostfan @ Mar 14, 2009 -> 02:55 AM) Here in MD it seems like our taxes are right behind federal in the percentage. It's ridiculous. IL's tax rates are really nothing compared to ours. I don't feel sorry for you guys, lol. i'm sure residents of 42 other states agree with you.
  13. seriously, Illinois has the lowest income taxing rate in the country. We've underpaid for decades. Now that the State wants to tax at a fair rate, you've got a problem??? Were you praising the State for undertaxing for the past 20+ years?
  14. State income tax is an income tax in the United States that is levied by each individual state. Seven states choose to impose no income tax. These states are Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming. Additionally, New Hampshire and Tennessee limit their state income taxes to dividends and interest income only. As of 2007, the highest rate of state income tax is that of California, with a maximum rate of 10.3%. Of those states which impose an income tax, the lowest maximum rate is that of Illinois, which levies a flat tax of 3%. Most states (34) have a progressive income tax, where the rate rises as an income gets larger. So, stop your b****ing.
  15. does everyone here know that Illinois currently has one of the lowest income tax levels in the country?
  16. from jon stewarts show last night through a george carlin stand up line... "how come when its your stuff its sh*t but when its my sh*t is stuff"
  17. im interested to get some takes on this. are any of the following items, socialistic (if that's even a word) - public education - police departments - fire departments - public hospitals - military defense - homeland security - libraries - park districts - water/sewage departments and if not, how is "socialized medicine" any different then say, "socialized police protection"
  18. Under fire from congressional Republicans for lifting restrictions on stem cell research, President Barack Obama got a powerful endorsement for his move Monday from Nancy Reagan, the former president’s wife. “I’m very grateful that President Obama has lifted the restrictions on federal funding for embryonic stem cell research,” she wrote in a statement released shortly after Obama reversed the Bush administration limits. “These new rules will now make it possible for scientists to move forward. I urge researchers to make use of the opportunities that are available to them and to do all they can to fulfill the promise that stem cell research offers." Nancy Reagan has been an outspoken advocate of stem cell research — and scientists hope that the research could someday lead to a cure for Alzheimer’s disease, which afflicted her late husband, Ronald Reagan. Her statement also illustrates how support for the research crosses party lines, even though many in the anti-abortion movement strongly oppose the research on moral and ethical grounds. Reagan continued, “Countless people, suffering from many different diseases, stand to benefit from the answers stem cell research can provide. We owe it to ourselves and to our children to do everything in our power to find cures for these diseases — and soon. As I’ve said before, time is short, and life is precious.”
  19. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Mar 8, 2009 -> 08:12 PM) So much for the "no Americans want these jobs" 700 show up for 1 janitor position http://www.cantonrep.com/news/x1569321039/...est-job-Janitor most janitors don't get $15-16/hr plus benefits.

  22. QUOTE (Cali @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 11:06 PM) Have I mentioned Jerry Owens is f***ing useless? I want to see how Ozzie can justify him when he's .212 in late May. I mean really.... he's having a better spring than Brian Anderson.
