  1. QUOTE (Wanne @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 07:27 PM) Fields?!?....DH?!?...good lord why? i think he's had somewhat of a Sophomore Slump this year... the ability to focus on his hitting without having to worry about his glove, could help him become the .265 30HR 90RBI kind of guy that everyone had hoped that he would become.
  2. something that no one has been talking about as an idea... Let's say that the Sox move Quentin to RF next year as its been discussed. So then, you have a hole in LF and CF. (Anderson, Pods are options) But knowing how much the Sox have stuggled to fill these positions, would it be better to do the following.... Leave Quentin in LF and Dye in RF. Make Fields the DH and then just fill one position CF (or go with an Anderson/Pods situation) So the lineup could look like... 1) Pods- CF 2) Ramirez- SS 3) Quentin- LF 4) Dye-RF 5) Konerko-1B 6) AJP-C 7) Beckham-3B 8) Fields-DH 9) Getz-2B The Sox could then use the $ they save from Thome, Contreras, Dotel and Colon ($30 million in total) to either... -upgrade CF -upgrade the Bullpen -Get a solid #4/#5 starter -lock up John Danks
  3. Colon went 7IP giving up 4ER, 8 Hits, 2BB's, and 2HR's. 0 K's. Quentin went 1 for 3 with an RBI double.

  5. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 12:00 AM) Seniorita muy caliente. si... donde esta el linko?
  6. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 12:43 AM) Sick of God Bless America at baseball game.
  7. here's another unpopular opinion... Lindsay Lohan is hot.
  8. Wow... I agree with a lot of these. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 06:55 PM) 30 of my opinions that tend to be unpopular: 1. Abortion should be legalized. 2. Stem cell research needs to be 100% unrestricted. 3. The Bible is a book of lies. 4. People who follow a religion are weak-minded. 5. People should never submit themselves to a religion. Muslim women should not wear hijabs or burquas and nuns should not wear habits. 6. Nuns and clergy are morons and they're wasting their lives. 7. God didn't create man, Man created god. 8. Churches, Mosques, and other places of worship should lose their tax-exempt status and pay taxes. 9. Churches, Mosques, and all other places of worship needs to be outlawed. 10. People should be able to arm themselves against cops. 11. Killing a cop should not warrant an automatic death penalty sentence. 12. It should be illegal to have kids recite the Pledge of Alliegence in schools. 13. The quality of education in all public schools should be equal, money should be diverted from high-performing schools in the suburbs and given to the low-performing inner-city schools. 14. White women are usually unattractive compared to women of other races. 15. White people are more ignorant to racial issues because they blindly benefit from white privledge. 16. America needs to stop corporations from outsourcing jobs overseas by levying them big fines. 17. Corporations should not be able to get as much power, wealth, and influence that they do. 18. Drivers should not have to stop for pedestrians, pedestrians should wait at the curb until the street is all clear, even in front of supermarkets. 19. More neighborhoods need to have more affordable housing and refuse to allow developers build million dollar+ homes. 20. Rich people need to pay more taxes. 21. Rich people doesn't need to live in giant houses, they should be forced to live in modest homes because it's bull to have poorer people's property taxes go up whenever rich people invade a neighborhood. 22. Illegal immigrants should have an easier way of getting legalized once they enter the United States. 23. One exception to #16 is to let corporations outsource jobs to Mexico instead. Doing that would help Mexico's economy and reduce the number of illegal immigrants entering the United States at the same time. 24. Red-light cameras need to be outlawed. 25. Those guilty of spamming need to face prison sentences. 26. Raise the prices on alcohol and tobacco. 27. Health care need to be more affordable, further taxing the rich should solve this. 28. The FCC needs to go f**k off and stop censoring everything even remotely offensive. 29. It should be illegal for the military to recruit kids at high schools. 30. SUV's need to be taken off the roads. they only thing we totally disagree with is guns. my unpopular opinion would be that guns have no place in modern society and should be outlawed for consumer use/ownership.
  9. while we may not have the most fans, we've got the most important one. Nice clothing choice Mr. President!!!!
  10. QUOTE (Soxy @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 05:46 PM) That is exactly my problem. After I sent her a long detailed e-mail she said, well it's on several websites, so I don't know what else I can do. Since no one is calling I can't do anything else. Just putting it on the internet isn't enough. And another realtor actually said she was surprised by how nice my house was because the pictures the realtor took and posted were so awful. Part of the problem is that my house is not expensive--it's listed around 59K (which is probably close to the median home price in this area). So her commission won't be huge. Or that's the only thing I can think. maybe try buyowner.com... i'd personally advertise on craigslist too. Maybe re-take some of the pictures and burn them on a CD for potential buyers to take with them.
  11. QUOTE (Soxy @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 01:46 PM) So I am selling my house (worst possible timing). I've had it listed for about three months and I have a six month contract. My realtor has not shown the house in over a month (the house next door is also for sale and has been showing about 3 times a week our houses are very similar in price and size). She says the reason that she hasn't shown the house is because other realtor's aren't calling her. She says that the listing is online, but that no one is contacting her. She did have one potential showing last week because there were people viewing the house next door--but that didn't happen because of short notice. Also, of the 7 or so showings I have had she has only done 1 showing. All of the others have been from other realtors. My question is this: Can I get out of the contract? I've aired my frustrations with her about how little my house is showing and she knows that I need to sell it as quickly as possible. I'm concerned that her main thoughts on showing my house is that other people need to call her. So if there are any realtors or lawyers on board I'd love some input. your situation sounds somewhat similar to mine from a few years ago. We had hired an agent based upon a friend's recommendation. They totally dropped the ball. Poor showing #'s, lack of timely responses, etc. At the end we just sent them a letter (and cc'd the attorney we were planning on using for closing) requesting to be let out of the agreement. We took the house off the market for 2 months (thus the # of days listed on realtor.com, etc goes back to zero) and then hired another agent who sold the property within 2-3 months. I'm always shocked by how little work some realtors tend to due. They think that responding to showing requests and listing on the "system" is all they need to do. They are order takers, not order makers. You need someone who has a network of interested parties (investors, local businesses who relocate employees, etc) to help close the sale. Don't be afraid to get creative either... offer the buyer a new flat screen TV or a trip to Hawaii. Something special to make your showing stand out from the crowd. (especially if its a townhouse)
  12. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 02:03 AM) f*** you, Kenny. Yeah, I said it. Even if true, any business that blames its customers for its own inability to improve its product is idiotic and arrogant. Its Marketing 101. great point... McDonalds... well we can't roll out a new hamburger because our customers aren't buying enough of the crappy ones. GM... well we can't improve our car fleet and produce better cars because people aren't buying enough of the s***ty ones. (ok bad example)
  13. quick math check though... assume the Sox draw the extra 4k fans per game as the article suggested. Over an 81 game season, assuming $20 per ticket, that equates to $6.48 million in additional revenue. Didn't Kenny cut payroll by an amount greater than $6.48 million prior to the season? Pulling Swisher, Cabrera, Vazquez, Hall, etc off team?
  14. White Sox GM hampered by low attendance 26 minutes ago CHICAGO (AP)—White Sox general manager Ken Williams said Tuesday he may not be able to make a big trade this season because of smaller crowds at U.S. Cellular Field. Williams nearly pulled off a significant trade in May, putting together a deal to acquire Jake Peavy(notes) from the San Diego Padres. But the 2007 NL Cy Young Award winner used his no-trade clause to torpedo the agreement. Before Tuesday’s game against the Indians, Williams cited slumping attendance as a reason the White Sox may not be able to pull off another big move that would add salary to the team’s payroll. “Well, if I’m being completely honest money is more of the issue now. We expected a little more support than we’ve gotten,” he said. “I think it’s a reflection upon the economy of what’s kind of happen with regards to attendance and I don’t know if we’ve played consistent enough, or been exciting enough for people to get behind us. We’re still hopeful.” Chicago made a small trade Tuesday, acquiring reliever Tony Pena(notes) from the Arizona Diamondbacks for minor league infielder Brandon Allen. Williams noted weak attendance numbers during a three-game series with the Dodgers in late June, where the White Sox averaged 20,814 fans. The White Sox are averaging 26,147 this season, compared with 30,877 last year. “We’ve been probably pretty short or a little aggressive in our projections and we might have to take a lot closer look at it, because, the Dodgers series was certainly an eye opener for us,” Williams said.
  15. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 04:10 PM) If the deal a previous poster mentioned would work (Halladay for Flowers + Poreda + Richard + Getz), then I make it in a heartbeat because that would be a great deal for the Sox. I haven't looked at all the stats from everyone, but Roy Halladay has probably been the #2 SP in all of baseball over the last 8 years, only trailing Johan Santana. He is beyond amazing and I am confident in saying that no one in our minor league system, and probably no prospect we'll add to our system over the next 5+ years will ever have the type of career Roy Halladay has had. To give up everything we've got would be dumb, and potentially devastating, but a deal like that above would still save enough future pieces while keeping the veteran core intact. It would be a steal actually, and if I were a Jays fan I'd definitely want more. the key word is had... not will have. What type of future will a 32 year old pitcher who's gone 220IP+ over the past 3 years, have in the next 2-3 years. (even though he's only signed thru next season) Will a 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 version of Roy Halladay (so 33, 34, 35 and 36 yrs old) be greater than Tyler Flowers, Aaron Pordea, Clayton Richard and Chris Getz's version in 2011, 2012, 2013. That's got to be the big question. Short term, 2009 only, its a steal. Long term??????????
  16. let's say the difference between Halladay and Poreda/Richard is 2 runs per game. (5.00ERA vs 3.00ERA) How much are you willing to give up, to save 2 runs, every 5 games?
  17. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_minor...agues_and_teams actually it interesting there are only 10 minor league teams here in the 4 state radius. (IL, WI, MI, IN) Illinois - Kane County Cougars (Low A)- Oakland Athletics - Peoria Chiefs (Low A)- Chicago Cubs Wisconsin - Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Low A)- Milwaukee Brewers - Beloit Snappers (Low A)- Minnesota Twins Michigan - Great Lakes Loons (Low A)- Los Angeles Dodgers - Lansing Lugnuts (Low A)- Toronto Blue Jays - West Michigan Whitecaps (Low A)- Detroit Tigers Indiana - Indianapolis Indians (AAA)- Pittsburgh Pirates - Fort Wayne Tincaps (Low A)- San Diego Padres - South Bend Silverhawks (Low A)- Arizona Diamondbacks Ohio has 6 teams, Missouri has only 1, Minnesota has 0.
  18. QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 05:13 PM) I've never been to a Sox minor league game, but I think it'd be a lot of fun. Too bad they don't have any near Chicago. yeah i don't understand this one bit. The Cubs have teams in Iowa and Peoria . The Tigers have teams in Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania The Twins have a team in Wisconsin. The Brewers have a team in Wisconsin The Sox don't have a team within a 10 hour drive of Chicago. I understand the thoughts of grouping the teams close to one another (VA, NC, SC, AL) (with Montana as an exception) but does it make marketing sense to not have an affiliate near your fan base?
  19. Mark Buehrle 1-1 with a 4.36 ERA John Danks 2-3 with a 2.91 ERA Gavin Floyd 3-0 with a 0.99 ERA Jose Contreras 3-2 with a 2.17 ERA Clayton Richard 1-0 with a 5.48 ERA These guys have been dealing. 14 of the last 25 starts (56%) have been quality starts. (6IP/3ER) Taking Clayton out of the mix, 14 of the last 20 starts (70%) have been quality starts.
  20. In 1997, Congress enacted legislation that limits Secret Service protection for former presidents to ten years after leaving office. Under this new law, individuals who were in office before January 1, 1997 will continue to receive Secret Service protection for their lifetime. Individuals entering office after that time will receive protection for ten years after leaving office. Therefore, former President Bill Clinton will be the last president to receive lifetime protection, and former President George W. Bush will be the first to receive protection for only ten years (until 2019). Barbara Bush, Rosalynn Carter, Betty Ford, Hillary Clinton, and Nancy Reagan will continue to receive full-time protection for life, as former First Ladies. Laura Bush will be the first to receive protection for only ten years (until 2019). maybe the other countries will have to wait until 2019???
  21. so say Bush/Cheney etc doesnt get tipped off that a particular country is planning on arresting them. They get arrested and thrown into jail. Does the US Military invade to free them? If its Bush, does Secret Service have a shoot out with the arresting officers from the other country?
  22. that state tax issue is crazy. i know a guy who played minor league ball and got bounced around a bit between teams. He was a SP and had to pay tax in every state the team stopped in (and in Canada) regardless of whether or not he played because technically he earned a day's salary in that state, even if his butt was sitting on the bench.
  23. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 07:52 PM) I thought he was a 7 time gold glover?
