  1. He actually pitched pretty damn well over in Korea. Back-2-back 200+ IP both years. With how bad and clueless the Marlins are, he might actually get a crack at the rotation.
  2. They did. I'm not 100% sure why though. Looks like his K/9 dropped by a full point and he gave up more HR/9 than normal. Just turned 30 though. I wouldn't mind taking a flyer on him or Brad Boxberger.
  3. Who says they didn’t? If you’re 33 year old Adam Ottavino and you had two similar deals from the Yankees or the 100 loss White Sox, where would you go? Would have been awesome if the Sox could have gotten him.
  4. I recall Ozzie saying Bartolo disappeared from the Sox because he was upset Michael Jackson died, which personally I find really funny. I don’t see him as the type of guy dancing around to P.Y.T. Hahahaha
  5. So because more people say something that automatically makes it true? That’s a really bad application of logic. None of us know anything about this situation with 100% certainty, so we cannot talk in absolutes. There is a chance that is the offer. I believe it is extremely slim, but I still cannot completely ignore it because I don’t like the idea of it being legit. Until a deal is signed, it’s just a guessing game.
  6. Idk. It could be a risk he’s willing to take if he wants to prove a point. Grandal just did it. Older player, but who actually thought he would take a 1 yr. deal? That’s assuming that’s the real offer on the table. I tend to believe it is, however what if the 7/175 is legit? You have to entertain the idea that it could be, no matter how unlikely. I don’t think he accepts that. What’s the Yankees payroll look like heading into 2020? If they have a lot of money coming off the books I could see Manny trying this all over again with them next offseason.
  7. The longer this drags out though, I think the possibility of him taking a 1 yr deal increases. I could totally see a surprise team jumping in and doing something like that. If he’s not happy signing his contract, that will only make his tenure on the team worse. Especially if he has to sit through a few bad seasons til the rebuild is over.
  8. WTF. Why not just tweet a selfie flipping him off Phil? Seems like there’s going to be quite a few writers that burn some bridges in the aftermath of all this.
  9. Well, we know St. Louis made a lowball offer that was rejected. If it leaks that the deal is 7/175, more teams will come in with offers slightly above that, leaving the real offer, say 8/250, the clear cut best deal. Therefore the Sox come out appearing to be the only team paying above market value set by those offers and Manny has no choice but to accept it. I really hope that isn’t the case, because that shines a negative light on the Sox, but I wouldn’t put it past JR to try and play the system like that. I also think that the Philly or Boras theory makes sense too.
  10. MLB pretending the late 90’s, early 2000’s didn’t happen is ridiculous. It’s just as ridiculous as ignoring Pete Rose as the all time hits leader. Especially because it’s already likely there are guys in the Hall that used PED’s that either didn’t put up the gaudy numbers to get put under a microscope or were smart enough to not get caught and draw attention to themselves. Fuck, Bud Selig is in the HOF and he knew fully what was going on and turned a blind eye to it. How is that fair to the legit players in there? If you’re trying to protect the sanctity of the Hall, you could argue it’s already lost it. I also said that *if* they made it in (not that I want them in) they should be in their own category entirely and separated from the greats. For example, MLB could fully disclose that this was the STEROID ERA, and these are the player that were the best and defined that period. This is why there is a drug testing system/penalties currently in place, etc. I’m not saying that these guys aren’t assholes for doing what they did (I very much dislike Clemens, Bonds, Aroid as players and people), but is was a dark blip during MLB’s history. You never are going to fully know with 100% certainty whose clean. Players are still getting busted to this day.
  11. That in no way was directed at the Big Hurt. I have no clue why you would single him out of that statement. Frank's the whole reason I am a Sox fan as well, and I fully believe his stance that he was clean. But it is extremely naive to think that players of Bonds caliber were the only ones taking enhancements. Just because the stats were not as good, doesn't mean it happened. Look at some of the shitty players that get busted for them now.
  12. They have a mic set up and depending on how busy it is usually they invite whoever to get in line. I've only attended the 'smaller' seminars. The main one with KW & Hahn is usually pretty crowded.
  13. Certainly seems like the Sox are grooming Vizquel to take over that manager job from Ricky when it's time to compete. 2021?
  14. Man that Q move is certainly appearing to be a steal. Nice to see Cease get some well deserved recognition.
  15. I'd almost be willing to put Bonds, Sosa, ARod, Clemens, etc. in the Hall if baseball acknowledged the Steroid Era for what it was. If they dedicated a wing or whatever and stuck all these guys in there I think that would be acceptable. One giant asterisk. One way to look at it is - yes, they cheated - but they were the best in an era of baseball were a vast majority of the league was also cheating. I don't think they have any business being next to guys like Ruth, Mantle, Gehrig, etc., but maybe acknowledge that that was one hell of an entertaining era (as much as I dislike those guys for cheating).
  16. This is my concern as well. To be a fly on the wall during these negotiations.
  17. When I saw these tweeted out, all I could think of is that marketing team sitting at a table saying, "man, we really should have picked an athlete that we could guarantee would have a team by this point." I can't imagine they are happy that there doesn't seem to be an end in sight yet.
  18. It could really be there is no other offer to force the Sox to go higher. Market is dry.
  19. Highly recommend you watch Band of Brothers next. Amazing series.
  20. I don't feel bad for him. A guy I do feel bad for: Oliver Drake.
  21. I'm glad Lozano released that statement. Whether it hurts the Sox or not - this has completely gotten out of hand. What a damn shit show.
  22. Could Philly be the team? Just thinking outside the box, but what if they are trying to sway perception in an effort to get Harper on a lower deal? That would allow them to chase after some of the remaining big names out there.
  23. A hard salary cap will only make this worse. Teams already refuse to go beyond the luxury tax, why would a salary cap suddenly make them want to spend more than they already do? It will not fix what we are seeing these past two off seasons.
