Thanks.- the old Corbin Burnes thread, we have a new Burnes thread
I'm missing something, who is Dayton?- The Wainwright to the Cards Thread
Given Walker's age and past pedigree, it doesn't surprise me at all he had a good year. Unfortunately, the lowest tier available blows. I'd just assume to attempt to trade at this point. Over Wainwright, I guess if I had to pick, I'd rather go with any one (or two) of these guys: Trevor Cahill (worked with Katz), Julio Teheran, Matt Shoemaker, Mike Leake, Trevor Williams, or Mike Foltynewicz (if healthy). The situation sucks, thanks to JR's cheap ass.- The Wainwright to the Cards Thread
So then get a guy that might actually be able to get through the season. Wainwright is going to be 39 and his advanced metrics are incredibly mediocre. In 2020, his K/9 dropped, his HR/9 increased, his GB% was the lowest of his career, and his xFIP continues to hover over 4.0 (below average). I'd argue the only reason he has a deceptively low ERA is because he faced such crap offenses. Plus, we're talking about him moving from Busch to GRF. Go to Fangraphs and look at any of the projections on his page - they all show pretty significant regression. I'd just stay away. If they are going to go bargain bin shopping, then I'd prefer that they go out and get someone that isn't going to retire in 2022 and has potential to catch lightning in a bottle.- The Wainwright to the Cards Thread
He also could very well be DFA'd by June and the Sox will have to scramble to find a 4th starter. I'd look closer to his 2016-2019 full season stats than a shortened 2020.- The Wainwright to the Cards Thread
Please no to this idea. Can this team ever resist the temptation from signing the dinosaurs of the league?- Hector wrong. Again. - Cruz back with Min
Exactly.- Hector wrong. Again. - Cruz back with Min
That’s my point, why repeat something if Cruz is Sox bound? Clearly he doesn’t know as much as he’s led on.- Hector wrong. Again. - Cruz back with Min
No Sox mention.- Hector wrong. Again. - Cruz back with Min
If you want to throw more onto this, pretty sure international travel now requires a negative covid test and a 7 day quarantine. For fun, say he agreed in principle on Monday, I'm uncertain on how things are there, but it might legitimate take a while for him to travel here (assuming he has to do the physical here and they can't make an exception).- Hector wrong. Again. - Cruz back with Min
Yes, and it seems like most people are leaning towards him going back to Japan.- Hector wrong. Again. - Cruz back with Min
I doubt it's that high. He made $14.5M in 2019, and was supposed to make $12M last season. I don't think we see a raise. Hopefully it would be closer to $10M, or I have no idea how they are going to fill out the rest of the roster barring a trade of some sort.- Hector wrong. Again. - Cruz back with Min
What kind of food is a "Leo"?- Hector wrong. Again. - Cruz back with Min
Absolutely. Too many people deal with absolutes.- Hector wrong. Again. - Cruz back with Min
Wow. I mean, he's not exactly backing down there, hahaha. Sox actually signing Cruz seems like a massive shift from what we've heard over the past month.- Hector wrong. Again. - Cruz back with Min
Unless they are confident they can acquire a cheap SP via trade. I doubt it too, just trying to think of how going out and spending $10+ on Cruz would logically make sense with obvious holes still on this roster.- Hector wrong. Again. - Cruz back with Min
This is going to be funny when it's an official Vera signing announcement.- the old Corbin Burnes thread, we have a new Burnes thread

Not entirely true. This is two years old, but provides a good analysis of how guys perform after the diagnosis. It’s not a good thing. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/phil-hughes-and-the-sobering-history-of-thoracic-outlet-injuries/- the old Corbin Burnes thread, we have a new Burnes thread
I hate that. Puts a lot of pressure for Kopech to come back with zero issues. Plus he’ll be on an innings limit. Just sign a guy with the expectation to stay as the #4 the whole season. If Kopech is ready, he’ll force the issue.- the old Corbin Burnes thread, we have a new Burnes thread
If the Sox sign Archer, I’ll throw up. The injury he’s returning has a history of ending pitchers careers. He won’t make it through 162 game season.- the old Corbin Burnes thread, we have a new Burnes thread
Worrying about your payroll 4+ years out is how you end up with only 6 postseason appearances in 39 years of ownership. Amazing 25 other teams can figure out how to to hand out $100M+ contracts to players and make it work.- the old Corbin Burnes thread, we have a new Burnes thread
I think this is definitely it. They are trying to get a cheap, under control, and high reward guy they long wanted while giving up assets that won't immediately impact the current window. I don't think they will get him unless Hahn caves. The Brewers have no need to trade him at this time. If JR would open his pocket books, I could probably stomach trading Vaughn if they went out and got a guy like Ozuna to hold down DH. - Jameson Taillon traded to Yankees
