JD was a great clubhouse guy too, and well sold him up the river after his second half last year and I rather take his second half then watch Kotsay ground out or fly out every atbat and have to hear about his "tough luck". And Dye was the world series MVP and could easily do what Kotsay does (spell PK and Quentin). Next, this is PROFESSIONAL baseball, and these guy make millions a year to produce. I don't care if this guy is a leader in the clubhouse. If he has that much of an affect on this team that if he sat and was a bench player like he should be and thy changed his leadership abilities, well then that's pittiful. Even more it's sad we use chemistry as an excuse for a guy to stay, and people accept it. The rest of the team will adjjust if Kotaay was gone and if they don't/can't well then they all need psychiatric help.

Sox fans that are still pissy about Kotsay and his BA, remember without him the team loses HWA and drop on FHM. 52 minutes ago Anybody know what that means? I'm not just mad at his batting average, that is not the end all be all of hitting stats. But his afore mention OBP and RBI (21) from his normal 6th spot as a DH is maddening. How are our beat writers supporting the playing of this guy. He must have a spell on anyone who enters the clubhouse. I get he is a great leader, great, give him a clipboard and call him a coach. I rather have production than another leader in our clubhouse. No excuse

Really? BS Ozzie. You yourself said last night that Viciedo would be giving Omar a day off. I don't understand WTF Tank did to deserve this little of playing time. Ozzie continues to say he picks he places for tank to succeed, bull! He is a 21 yr old kid that needs to be playing everyday or needs to be sent down. All this kid has done is SMOKE the ball (not to people like that pos Kotsay). At this point we should have traded this guy for Dunn atleast we wouldn't suffer from seeing Kotsay and Viciedo would have the chance to play and prove he is ready. Ozzie admit your wrong and get over Kotsay,u were wrong thi guy is a BENCH player NOT a fing DH.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 07:15 AM) If you argued for Mark Buehrle you wouldn't be wrong either. Great call.

I think all the "hoopla" over Kotsay is it mystifies us how OZ is so oblivious to his lack of production. I think we as Sox fans are smart baseball people and can judge a vet like Kotsay and determine what his role is and it ain't a DH. I think what makes this such a compelling (for lack of a better word) topic is why and what Kotsay does to make OZ so loyal when he has thrown others under the bus for lesser slumps (Swish, Dye, GB, even Quentin a few times) in the media and benched all of them for day(s). It is just mind boggling. IMO

I think it's pretty clear to say PK is the whitesox player of this decade (2000-2010). He truly has done everything for this organization. He is a class act on and off the field, has produced almost every year with a few exceptions, was a hero in the playoffs and our first world series in decades. Frankly I love the guy for his professionalism, offense, defense, clutchness, and most of all for representing our city and fans proudly. I hope Jerry and KW understand this and reward him with a fair extension this offseason. He has before and will again take a hometown discount. We owe it to him to let him walk away a Sox. Thankyou Paulie, Youre a class act.

It really has become amazing how much Ozzie has let his fondness of a guy affect his judgement of the guy as a player. I would completly understand if Kotsay was somewhat consistent day-to-day but the guy legitly blows. It has gotten to the point IMO that KW NEEDS to step in! We are in a pennant chase for god sake and these games matter NOW. Morneau is out, Mauer was. This is an opp. To gain ground for when we play head to head (which doesn't usually go out way against the twinks). A designated HITTER with a line of: HR RBI TB OBP SLG AVG 6 21 80 .298 .338 .215 Is ridiculous! 21 RBI, .298 OBP, come on OZ I know your a smart manager, please prove it. My favorite part of the article: "You can ask his teammates, you can ask [hitting coach] Greg Walker. He should have better numbers than what he has. He went through tough times with people making plays on him. That happens all year long. I'm not making an excuse. He swings the bat good. He's hitting tough luck from the beginning." That sure as hell sounds like a excuse to me Oswaldo. Every player hits the ball hard to people time time, it's still an out and Kotsay is the King of hard outs, but that doesn't mean he is or will be effective. "He swings the bat good" -- I swing the "bat good" but admitely can't hit or make good contact in the majors or any MLB affiliate. We need a guy that "HITS the ball good," big difference. We need production not hard outs. It's time to get over your man crush and give Kotsay his walking papers like most teams would have already. Sorry this is my first Kotsay rant. At this point it is frustrating, other people can and should be benifiting from the DH postion; Quentin for sure, Paulie, Omar, and even Ramon Castro. But mostly Viciedo should be getting his at bats (although Sox say he needs the routine of a position player, hell of a routine he gets sitting 5 days a week). The Swish comparison is perfect and it is bs OZ is still doing this in AUGUST

Not to mention you can trade guys who are on the DL (see Jake Peavy). I don't think this says manny is staying by any means.

Mannywood Credit: AP Source: Los Angeles Times Finishing his Dodgers career in "silence and pain," Manny Ramirez' comfortable corner of Chavez Ravine is history. Mannywood is now Deadwood, the Dodgers ill-conceived tribute to [Ramirez] serving as a metaphor for the man himself. The two previously rollicking sections in the left-field corner at Dodger Stadium now have the hollow look of a party gone bad. "Manny had us going for a while," said Oscar Chavez, 28, celebrating his birthday there Tuesday night with eight easily obtained tickets for his family. "But now he's done." And the Dodgers, it seems, are finally done with him, having torn down the Mannywood signs during the last trip, replacing them with billboards advertising an insurance company and the Dodgers' flagship radio station. Just a follow up post on Manny. Seems they pulled Mannywood cause they were sick of Manny not to pay the additional 7 Mil taken on at the deadline like someone had suggested. It looks like more and more the Dogers are done with ManRam. IMO it's just a question to when he goes and which team claims him
-
I was listening to the game on the Score and DJ mentioned the Dodgers sold MannyWood to a different comapny to advertise. Hopefuly that signals the end to ManRam in La and the start of Mannywood (on the bench since he would DH) on the Southside.

MLBTR has a new post about the tigers and how they may sell if they don't turn it around. They mention a few players, the most interesting Johnny Damon. Any interest?

And that's a tampa bay devil Ray winner!!!

QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 2, 2010 -> 09:50 PM) Matt Joyce has been killing the Twins and just about everybody who plays the Rays. Dude's got an OPS near .900. Speaking of Matt Joyce, he was the guy traded from Detroit to Tampa for the one and only Edwin Jackson. -

This is an even more important win for the rays and us (Sox) if we are able to take game one in the double header. That way we can't end the day any worse than where we started, in first place. Big series against the tigers thank god the Twinks got the Rays. -
"Notice how the glove is a bit higher in 2009, while it hovers down by the side of his knee in 2008. I think this has contributed to Jackson’s improved control this year." I wonde if this may be his problem again this year?

Great article breaking down EJaxs mechanics and why he was so good in Det. very entertaining and got me even more excited. Includes a visual breakdown of delivery with written breakdown. Truly a must read (written when he was with the tigers). http://www.baseball-intellect.com/emergenc...-edwin-jackson/

I too am excited about EJax. He has electric stuff obviously and a perfect and smooth delivery that helps prevent injuries. He will help eat innings down the stretch to keep the bullpen fresh.Whether he was KWs target or not? Who cares, he's who we got and Coop hopefuly fixed him.I can't wait for his debut un a Sox black uni. Unfortunitly I have to work so I will be held to glimpse of the game and watching the reply on TiVo. By the way he is nasty in MLB The Show!

No thankyou to Figgins. But I'm down for Matsui (would kill in the cell IMO. Plus he is as clutch as you get. See 2009 world series) Ibanez (he's on his last legs though and is expensive, but why would the Phillies give them up they are in it for sure). I love Matsui for two reasons mostly; first, he is a excellent hitter. Goes the other way and drives up the count. Not to mention he adds power from the left side we so badly need. Secondly, I love the fact he would bring in extra revenue to the team, even if for only two months. hE is a huge draw for the Asian market and would easily pay for his remaining salary in ticket sales, jerseys, etc. Finally Matsui is a free agent next year and we saw what he did in a contract year in 09'. right now he suffers from a pitchers park in LA. He would love hitting in the cell and was also a target of KWs in the offseason, but the damn Halos outbid us again. The angels have to see themselves out of it and he is the perrfect salaray to shed. Does he have a NTC? Would he make to us? Only an AL team would claim him, I would think Det would be very interested for him as a DH. Also the rays and Yankees. He would be my number one after ManRam.

Gamethread: White Sox (58-45) vs A's (52-51) 1:05PM WGN/WSCR

Love seeing the Tank get four games in a row. About time. Although I don't like Vizquel sitting this much. -
QUOTE (TomPickle @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 02:27 AM) Two AL guys who would most likely clear waivers are Vernon Wells and Jose Guillen. I'd rather platoon Viciedo and Teahen than see the Sox have to pay one of those two. in response to that.
-
Ditto here. However thinking about it and Ozzie doing it are two different things. He loves the Kotsay/Jones platoon, but with Tank hitting the cover off the ball Oz may have no choice. Teahen started well in the minors tonight as well. Those two are pretty solid and could contend and hopefuly win a division. I'm going to say this now, I think the EJax trade will be looked at as one of KWs best by this time next season. I have a feeling after a few bullpen sessions with coop and a start or two to fine tune him, EJax will be FILTHY.
-
I think well know exactly what we have when MLB pitchers make an adjustment on tank. Probably by throwing more balls in the dirt (hopefuly can avoid Uribe comparsion here). If he is able to make and correct that adjustment we have a future superstar IMO.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 10:26 PM) I keep thinking Vlad. You have to work to walk him, but you throw him a strike and you're in trouble. I think it's too early to know what we have, but I like this comparison. Tanks swing is a little more compact and quick. But the approach for sure. I hope he can be what Vlad was for the Halos, that would be huge for us.

QUOTE (Capn12 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 07:24 PM) We were overdue for one of these type games, just didn't expect it to be while Danks was on the mound, giving up the biggest part. Oh well, strangely, even though the Twins are breathing down our necks, I'm not concerned with this one tonight. I understand losing and the fact we won't win every game. But we look hopeless up there. No one has had a good at bat all night. And it is something I hate seeing. This is the team that was so bad that started the season batting right now. It's frustrating that's all.
