  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 10:02 AM) Going into last year I would have thought that was crazy, then I saw was JA Happ got, and also can see how bad this years FA crop is... Now it isn't the craziest thing I have ever heard. I really think we're going to see the tide shift regarding QO's. Last year was the first year any player accepted and it was multiple players at that. We also saw others who declined (Fowler, Desmond) really have their value take a hit on the open market. I think going forward teams will be less inclined to offer QO's with the hope of the player declining and players will be more likely to accept due to what happened with Fowler and Desmond.
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 09:38 AM) And he fits like a glove with that group. He's probably as good if not better than Cain and Weaver at this point. Those guys are toast. And pre-injury he was nearly as good as them at their peak. In the four years before he got hurt he averaged 3.7 fWAR with a high of 4.8. Weaver's best four year stretch he averaged 4.6 with a high of 5.9. Cain's best four year stretch averaged 4.0 with a high of 5.0.
  3. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 7, 2016 -> 02:04 PM) I just want the move to make a little bit of sense and I just don't see it in this case. Even if Avi ends up going 3-4 with a home run, the move still doesn't make sense on paper On paper does it ever make sense to play a bench guy over a regular starter?
  4. This is going to be a long f***ing season if you guys are really going to look at every single move Robin makes under a microscope.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 7, 2016 -> 10:56 AM) Seriously. Quoting batting averages 3 games into a season? What? Batting averages after 3 games aren't relevant? You mean to tell me Eaton isn't going to hit .636 this year? That's disappointing.
  6. ESPN just showed Rollins with his arm around Eaton and they were joking around. Everybody happy now?
  7. QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 6, 2016 -> 04:43 PM) The problem is only 2 play for the White Sox 5 Sale Rodon Petricka Jones Saladino
  8. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 6, 2016 -> 10:49 AM) lol soak it up while we can. It's hard to believe we're the only 2-0 team in the AL Well to be fair, there are still four undefeated teams that haven't played a second game yet. I'm sure a couple of those teams will go to 2-0 also.
  9. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Apr 5, 2016 -> 10:54 PM) The Superdelegate system really affects nothing in this race. Before today, Hillary Clinton earned 2.5 Million Votes more than Bernie Sanders. After tonight, it will be only 2.4 Million more votes. Before today, Hillary Clinton had a lead of 224 pledged delegates (not superdelegates), after tonight it will still be 210+. If the convention was tomorrow, Hillary Clinton would still be the nominee, and she's likely to win the primaries in the three largest contests left to go - New York, Pennsylvania and California. The superdelegate system has nothing to do with any of that. In fact, Bernie Sanders only path to the nomination would involve taking advantage of the superdelegate system - because the likelihood that he'll lead in pledged delegates at the end of the primary calendar is actually pretty low. When some of the states caucus and some have primaries you cannot just count the number of votes and expect it to have any sort of legitimacy. Most caucus states do not release the actual popular vote count. Bernie has done extremely well in caucuses and if those states had been primary states that number you are quoting would be substantially smaller.
  10. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 4, 2016 -> 02:22 PM) The Sox have blasted Gray on two occasions. He's got a 8.10 ERA in 10 innings against us with 3 HRs given up. All that damage was done in the one start. His other start against the Sox he had a decent 7 IP, 3 R, 2 ER, 4 H, 3 BB, 4 SO line.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 4, 2016 -> 10:43 AM) I really wonder what the line up would look like if LaRoche had stuck it out and had been healthy. Would Avi be starting at DH over LaRoche? If not, would they have put Avi into the line up over Jackson or Cabrera? If LaRoche hadn't retired, Avi would more than likely been a super sub of sorts spelling all three outfielders and DHing versus LHP allowing him to play 3 or 4 days a week. He would probably not be in the lineup today.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 31, 2016 -> 01:23 PM) You just knew when Rollins picked the Sox he'd be opening day starter unless he looked absolutely awful in spring training. Basically we traded Lexi for Rollins. They were not prepared to give up on the season so to speak by going with a Saladino at starting shortstop. I'd be shocked though if Rollins plays as much as Lexi did. He might, but I somehow doubt it. I don't think starting Saladino would be giving up on the season. The difference between Saladino and Rollins will more than likely not be the difference between this team making and missing the playoffs. Unless of course if Rollins reverts back to his 2007 form. How sweet would that be?
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 31, 2016 -> 01:41 PM) I read it, and it is exactly what I expected. He'll unemploy an entire industry and most of the country will suffer for this new plan, with less care and options. You just completely made that part up. There is no reason to think that will be the case. Here is a good article describing what could happen under Bernie's plan. http://money.cnn.com/2016/01/25/news/econo...alth-care-plan/
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 31, 2016 -> 01:36 PM) The link probably is all I need to see. With as few places as take medicare now, that should tell all right there. Not to mention how many people his plan would leave unemployed. I guess if want to remain ignorant and not even read his proposal that is your right but any criticism of his plan that you may offer carries no weight.
  15. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 31, 2016 -> 01:28 PM) Show me that I'm saving money. Show me that the 2.2% will cover everything that my current health plan covers now and that I won't have to spend a bunch out of pocket to make up the difference. Read his proposal. It's all there. https://berniesanders.com/issues/medicare-for-all/
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 31, 2016 -> 12:15 PM) So, like I said, your taxes are going up. Taxes are going up but you are saving money. Are you really going to complain about that?
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 31, 2016 -> 11:48 AM) It was pretty clearly shown that his tax plan would increase taxes on everyone. Unless your household makes >$250,000 per year your income taxes would not go up other than a 2.2% tax for the universal health care. For most Americans, health insurance plus deductibles cost them way more than 2.2% each year.
  18. QUOTE (Lillian @ Mar 31, 2016 -> 07:56 AM) Loney has been a very consistently good average and OBP hitter vs. RHP, in his career. The last 3 years, in the A.L., in over 1000 at bats, he has averaged .300 with an OBP of .350 vs. RHP. Those numbers are right in line with his career stats. It is also worth noting that he does not strikes out very often, and He's a good defensive first baseman. Here are the AT BATS, AVERAGE and ON BASE PERCENTAGE STATS, for the last 3 years: 2013 395 .299 .352 2014 428 .304 .355 2015 277 .296 .341 He will turn 32 in May. The problem is that there is no place for him to play. If an injury happened to Abreu, or one of the outfielders, he would be a decent replacement at 1ST, or DH. However, barring that scenario, he would be on the bench, as an occasional late inning defensive replacement to spell Abreu. The team does not have an obvious need for a left handed pinch hitter, as no one is that bad against RHP. The problem with Loney is not his batting average or his on base percentage, the problem is that what little power the guy ever had is completely gone. His ISO last year was an anemic .076 against RHP. That is trending downward from .147 in 2013 and .103 in 2014. To put that in perspective, slap hitting Juan Pierre's ISO for his career was .066. That is not acceptable from a 1B/DH type. Ishikawa is already on the roster and could put up similar numbers. No reason to go after Loney.
  19. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Mar 30, 2016 -> 03:54 PM) Is he on irrevocable waivers? Not sure honestly. If he is, then yea but often times teams will work out a trade rather than just a pure waiver claim. Even if it is revocable waivers the only team that could revoke the claim would be the Rays and why would they do that when they could save that entire $8 million.
  20. Loney is garbage. Unless he gets released and they pick him up for league minimum, no thanks. He really isn't any better than Ishikawa.
  21. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Mar 30, 2016 -> 03:20 PM) Why not? They aren't going to be able to spend that extra $13 million from LaRoche until much, much closer to the trade deadline. Claim him and work out a trade where the Rays pick up a couple million and Chicago sends them a reliever or Johnson or whatever they prefer. Loney is a fine player and I'd love to have a guy capable of replacing Avi full time if he sucks again. Uh if somebody claims him there will be no trade. The Rays will just let that team have him and the Rays will save his entire salary.
