QUOTE (miracleon35th @ May 25, 2016 -> 01:20 AM) Can someone alert Yahoo to take the very offensive description off the Yahoo search page for the White Sox ? Whoever hacked that page is a loser and should have their internet privileges revoked. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ May 25, 2016 -> 06:23 AM) What difference does that make? This was a hack by a cubf--- that I did not find amusing. All right, calm down. Take a deep breath. You're going to be okay. And by the way, welcome to the internet.

A fair and balanced soliloquy about Jose Abreu, by ron
lasttriptotulsa replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Deadpool @ May 24, 2016 -> 08:09 AM) 2 hole sees too many at bats to leave a struggling player there, IMHO. Your 2 hole should be your best or second best hitter. The only player who sees more at-bats is the leadoff man but the leadoff man has one less at bat with men on base. I love Abreu, but if he's going to struggle, he needs to be 6 in the lineup. You can't let him struggle in the 2 hole. The difference between the 2 spot and the 6 spot in the lineup amounts to about two extra plate appearances a week. Not that big of a difference. I'd rather see them give him the vote of confidence and leave him up higher in the lineup. He's too good of a hitter for this slump to last too long. -
Awful non-call in the 11th inning.

QUOTE (Deadpool @ May 18, 2016 -> 10:13 AM) Epic meltdown with zero substance. We get it, you don't like Hawk. You've made that abundantly clear in your 29 posts in this thread. You don't need to keep repeating yourself after every new post you broken f***ing record.

Awful non-call in the 11th inning.
lasttriptotulsa replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (harkness @ May 17, 2016 -> 11:12 PM) bad call... but runner wouldnt have been out so inning would have continued. Batter would have called out for the third out. QUOTE (chw42 @ May 17, 2016 -> 11:19 PM) How come other teams replay every f***ing thing imaginable and get every review they ask for and we can't do s***? Interference is not reviewable. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 17, 2016 -> 11:24 PM) So Springer goes back to first and Gattis still hits the bomb out of here. Sox lose still, right? See above. -

QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ May 17, 2016 -> 10:52 PM) Why didn't Robin challenge the interference call? Because you can't -
QUOTE (Deadpool @ May 12, 2016 -> 10:57 PM) This is just too much. See my comments in bold. "Harry was a legend, but he's been gone and he was with the Cubs longer. Seriously, Harry has nothing to do with Hawk, though." Not even close to being true. Harry Caray was only the Cubs announcer for 16 seasons, Hawk is in his 31st season with the Sox. "So when Avi went down with his shoulder, why didn't Hawk run down to the clubhouse? He has watched a ton of injuries, why the heck is Frazier special?" The difference is that most injuries you have a pretty good idea what happened. Frazier jumped up and immediately ran off the field covering his face. It was pretty scary to watch. I think Hawk was just genuinely worried about him and just had to see what was going on.

The sooner we get an automated strike zone, the better
lasttriptotulsa replied to shysocks's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (shysocks @ May 12, 2016 -> 09:19 AM) I would think the technology would be less likely to be fooled by crouching than an umpire. Tell the system the batter's height before each AB, height of the zone remains static, problem solved. For the second question, Bill Veeck would commend you. The strike zone is not determined by the height of the batter. It is the area between the bottom of the knee cap and the middle of the torso while in their stance. If it went strictly by the batter's height a guy like Jeff Bagwell who hit in a crouched stance would have to be swinging at pitches eye level. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ May 11, 2016 -> 06:56 AM) Once again, Hillary Clinton can (and there's a good chance she will since she's not even campaigning anymore) lose every state from here to the end and still secure the nomination. Numbers. She's not going to hit 2384 without the Super Delegates. She would need to win about 74% of the remaining pledged delegates to get there. She still needs to win 45% of the remaining pledged delegates to maintain her lead on Sanders.

By almost any defensive metric you can come up with Eaton is having one of the greatest defensive seasons of all time. -
Hittrackeronline had Avi's HR last night as tied for the lowest one hit in the majors this year with an apex of 46 ft.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 6, 2016 -> 01:52 PM) Woah. I'm a big Scott Carroll fan. But DJ Carrasco is legit the best long man I've seen. Seconded. Still can't believe they non-tendered him when it only would have cost them around $1 million to keep him.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 6, 2016 -> 12:38 PM) If he gets behind in the count and can't catch up with (or lay off) high fastballs, he's eerily reminiscent of Viciedo and Beckham struggling with that same issue. Dayan, in particular, where you felt once the count wasn't in his favor, the at-bat was pretty much doomed. It seems (and I haven't watched enough games or highlights, mostly following throw apps/online) that a lot of his heavy damage is done on offspeed stuff, whereas fastballs often result in flares that drop in. Perhaps that's changed recently. I do know that eventually he has to prove he can consistently drive that high fastball into the RCF gap (ala Quentin or Abreu) or he's going to face a steady diet of pitching high or inside, challenging him to turn on it (like Lawrie has shown the ability to do, even high and on the outside corner at 95-96) and pull it way out. Speaking of Viciedo, he's tearing it up in Japan this season. .327/.433/.637 slash with 9 HRs, 8 2Bs, 24 RBIs, 13% BB rate, 11% K rate. I could totally see him being the next Tuffy Rhodes over there. https://fan-interference.com/2016/03/30/day...aying-in-japan/
-
After last night's game, Lawrie now has a very impressive 14.5% BB rate. What's even more impressive is that in the first 14 games of the season he had just one BB. Since that point his walk rate has been an insane 25.8%. Obviously that is unsustainable because that exceeds even peak Frank Thomas numbers but it's still nice to see as one of Lawrie's downfalls coming into the year was his low walk and lack of patience. Coming into the season his career BB rate was 6.1%. He could go his next 161 PAs without drawing a walk and still be at his career mark. The big question is whether this is by design or a just a fluky occurrence.

QUOTE (gosoxgo2005 @ May 6, 2016 -> 06:39 AM) Rodon, though he could be a very good pitcher one day (key word: could) will NEVER be a 75-80 pitcher. I say that with 100% definitiveness, and yes, I know it's opinion, and it's impossible to actually be definitive in this scenario.... a 75-80 pitcher is a Sale/Arrieta/Kershaw. If you think Rodon will get to that level you're drinking way too much White Sox koolaide The only thing that could hold Rodon back is his command. His 'stuff' has every chance to be as good as Sale's. He also has a better frame that should allow him to be a complete workhorse.

CINCO DE MAYO GAME THREAD: BOS @ SOX
lasttriptotulsa replied to cabiness42's topic in 2016 Season in Review
QUOTE (fathom @ May 5, 2016 -> 08:38 PM) Johnson blazing that fastball at 89. Almost all the damage on that pitch tonight Red Sox broadcast has had him 90-92 all night. -
QUOTE (gosoxgo2005 @ May 5, 2016 -> 12:43 PM) I was told that unless Johnson throws a no-no, today will 99% be his only start for now. Take that FWIW I don't believe that for one second. If he goes out and give them 6 or 7 innings of 2 run ball they would be fools to not give him another start. Gonzalez was trash in his game and Turner has pitched in the Majors since 2014.

A fair and balanced soliloquy about Jose Abreu, by ron
lasttriptotulsa replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It's kind of disturbing the amount of Sox "fans" on this board that basically openly root for somebody or the team as a whole to fail just so that they can say "see, I told you so". -
QUOTE (bmags @ May 4, 2016 -> 09:21 AM) Question - was the announcing teams commenting on the brutal pace of that 8th inning? Two replays + just unbearable pace from their pitchers + 44 pitches total. We thought we'd be out of there at 930, but that was a 40 minute inning. Sucked the life out of the stadium even as it was bases loaded 1 out. I watched the Red Sox broadcast (no choice) and they did mention that the game had been sailing along until that 8th inning.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ May 3, 2016 -> 04:34 PM) I hope Danks does what he wants to do, but I wouldn't be surprised if 29 other teams just kinda say "nah". It could be over for him. Somebody will tale a flier. It won't cost anything.

Finding A Trade Partner for Ryan Braun
lasttriptotulsa replied to Y2Jimmy0's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 3, 2016 -> 01:04 PM) I like how the author gives Brauns batting average of .372 then qualifies it with him having a .409 BABIP. LIke duh !! Kind of what one would expect with a batting average of .372. It's not like his BABIP is going to be .300 . Not really all that uncommon for a player's BABIP to be lower than their batting average though. He was pointing it out to say that it is probably not sustainable. Braun has always had a rather high BABIP. For his career it is .336. Even if his BABIP was at his career level he would be hitting .316 this year. So either way you look at it he is having a great year. -
What's the point in starting a thread to ask for people's opinions on who the MVP has been if you are just going to tell them they are wrong for not agreeing with your opinion?
-
He had offers in the offseason but turned them down. I'd say in all likelihood we'll never see Mark Buehrle pitch again.
