  1. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jul 5, 2016 -> 11:54 AM) I think they have to add a 4/5 SP. Gonzalez has been up and down and I think an injury to a SP is inevitable. If someone hits the DL for a few weeks, I don' think there is a viable short-term replacement at Charlotte. Maybe the age of our top 3 is a plus but so many pitchers are going down lately that I think we need a back-up or make Gonzo the 6th man. I think there are enough bullpen options so I would go for a SP first. I don't think they will waste resources to pick up a 4th/5th type starter in case somebody gets hurt. If somebody goes down for a 15 day stint they will just call up one of Carroll/Volstad/Turner/Beck to make those couple starts. If Sale, Q, or Rodon go down for the season we aren't going anywhere anyways so there isn't any point in making the move. I think our resources will be better spent acquiring bullpen help and a impact bat.
  2. QUOTE (StrykerSox @ Jul 5, 2016 -> 10:27 AM) I was thinking about the ROY thing too. If Anderson continues this pace for the rest of the year, he will have 142 hits, 35 doubles, 4 triples, 18 HRs, 35 RBIs, 75 Rs and 9 steals. It also puts his WAR at 5.8. I think that puts him ahead of Mazara but behind Fulmer. He'd definitely have a shot though. Fulmer will probably have a bit of regression in the second half though. He's already around 85 innings pitched this year. He never went over 125 innings pitched in the minors. I could really see him running out of gas come late August into September. But it's also a long shot for Anderson to continue his pace as well. His BABIP will normalize. The BB/K rates could end up biting him in the ass and it's hard to imagine him continue hitting a HR every 25 at bats.
  3. QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ Jul 5, 2016 -> 07:28 AM) Ten days off with just an inning or two in the All Star game? I doubt it. Again, they've done it EVERY year he's been a starter.
  4. QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ Jul 4, 2016 -> 05:08 PM) It's not that helpful. Sale isn't going to take ten days off from the mound (for us). He'll pitch one of the first few games after the break. Why not? I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if they gave him a little extra time off. He's had a pretty heavy workload in the first half and he'll probably start the All Star game. He's gotten extended rest every year he's been a starter around the break. He was given 12 days between starts in 2012, 11 in 2013, 12 in 2014 and 8 in 2015. He didn't pitch in the 2015 game which probably accounts for the shorter rest.
  5. I f***ing hate Rondo. Probably my least favorite player in the league. Can the GarPax era please end already?
  6. Chris Sale reached the 1000 innings pitched mark yesterday. Baseball Reference uses a 1000 inning minimum to qualify for their "all time" leader boards. Here are a his rankings in a few categories: WHIP - 10th - 1.0615 All time leader - Addie Joss - .9678 K/9 - 3rd - 10.12 All time leader - Randy Johnson - 10.60 K/BB - 2nd - 4.724 All time leader - Tommy Bond - 5.036 ERA+ - 15th - 140 All time leader - Mariano Rivera - 205 Pretty impressive. Hopefully it continues for another couple thousand innings.
  7. I think we've definitely found our shortstop for the next 6 and a half years.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 30, 2016 -> 01:49 PM) If he stays healthy, he will be in several Cy Young discussions during his career. He's still learning. Yup. If he's already this good with virtually no MiLB time and just a season and a half worth of starts at the MLB level it's scary to think how good he could be. I think the next couple years no team in baseball will be able to touch our front 3.
  9. Rodon is dealing today. ERA, FIP and xFIP all under 4 for the year now.
  10. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 30, 2016 -> 01:43 PM) Wait, Davidson is playing? Has he actually hit his weight at AAA this year? He's having a decent year. OPS near .800 and his strikeouts have gone down quite a bit.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 30, 2016 -> 01:33 AM) OK get rid of Lawrie and it'll be Davidson at third, Anderson at short, Saladino at second and Frazier DH. That's a start. Saladino and Davidson and Anderson have a fighting chance. Yes, get rid of Lawrie. Brilliant idea. It's not like he's second in fWAR among our position players or the hottest hitter on the team right now or anything. But yes, let's get rid of him so we can play Matt Davidson and Tyler Saladino.
  12. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 29, 2016 -> 10:31 PM) I read an article yesterday that said quite the opposite. Shuck said that the early April energy is back and players are as loose as they were then Yeah but what would he know about it? No way a guy who is actually in the clubhouse day after day knows more than some clowns on a message board.
  13. QUOTE (gosoxgo2005 @ Jun 27, 2016 -> 01:06 PM) Oh yeah? Did someone within the organization tell you that? Catchers take much longer to develop and it's too important of a defensive position to try and develop at the MLB level. If Collins is up before 2018 it means that they have given up on him as a catcher and I don't think they want to do that.
  14. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 27, 2016 -> 09:54 AM) So for those who have regularly seen his at bats, is he swinging at everything, or is he just not taking any walks. The good walkers lay-off pitches just outside the zone that are hittable. It's better to lay off than to try to hit them in general, but you can still be productive. Now if he's swinging at balls in the dirt and stuff, then there could be issues. I like Anderson at leadoff because it pushes Eaton down to #2 and Eaton is the best hitter for the 2 hole on this roster. He's also the best hitter for the 1 hole, but I think the 2 hole gap was much greater. From the at bats I've seen, he seems to lay off some good breaking balls early in the count. Once he gets two strikes on him he struggles to lay off. He's had four at bats go to three ball counts and in two of those he struck out on pitches well out of the zone. I think with more repetition he will be fine. He'll probably never have a great walk rate but even if he can get to 5-6% he should be able to manage a .330-.340 OBP because I think he'll be close to a .300 hitter.
  15. QUOTE (gosoxgo2005 @ Jun 27, 2016 -> 08:24 AM) I said 4-5 win player, meaning between 4 and 5 wins. Which he's done 3 of 4 years and is likely on his way to another one this year. I was just also throwing X amount of money out there. What I'm saying is that the Sox need to cut the bull s*** half measure-scab-piece together rosters and sign the best possible free agent. If all that inhibits them from doing that is money, then f*** them. I don't care if it's Reddick, Encarnacion, or a trade for Bruce. MAKE IT HAPPEN. If not, then sell off anyone and everyone use players that other organizations have drafted and developed to be competitive in 2019-20 or so. The Sox have made attempts to sign the best free agents. By many reports they were in on Upton, Cespedes and Gordon this past offseason. Had LaRoche retired earlier I wouldn't have been surprised if they upped their offers and landed one of them. They even reportedly offered Gordon more than the Royals. The prior year they signed the top closer on the market and signed one of the top OFs available. Before that they had one of the highest offers for Tanaka and also signed Abreu to at the time, the largest contract ever given to an international free agent. They are willing to spend money on the right players but if those players don't want to go to Chicago what are they supposed to do? What they are not willing to do is spend $30 million a year on a bat only player entering his mid '30s. Would I love Encarnacion on this team as a DH? Absolutely. Do I want any part of him at $30 million or even anything over $20 million? Not a snowball's chance in hell.
  16. QUOTE (gosoxgo2005 @ Jun 27, 2016 -> 07:18 AM) why not? Because you'd have a 4-5 win player in the "win now" window that the team has set? They haven't been able to develop their own talent, so they have to buy it. Sale doesn't count, he wasn't developed. Anderson will probably be a good player, chances are he won't be a great player. After that, bone dry. Since they can't draft and/or develop their own players they have to buy them. And for a player as good as Encarnacion, $150ish million is the going rate. So unless you're willing to live with cheaper/older/washed up options a la Austin Jackson (who is a fine player) and more mediocrity, then you are forced to sign players to longer deals knowing you may have a few bad years at the end of them. What's "irresponsible" is continued organizational half measures Encarnacion has not had one 5 win season in his career and has only had three 4 win seasons out his 12. He'll be in his mid '30s at the start of that contract and will more than likely be a 3.5-4 win player the next couple years and even lower towards the end of that ridiculous contract you suggest. His value is hurt even more by the fact that he would be a DH with the Sox. There is not one single position player making $30 million this year and you suggest the Sox should pay that to Edwin Encarnacion? Not a chance in hell he gets $30 million per year.
  17. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jun 24, 2016 -> 10:33 AM) His BABIP will stay that low because he either pops up, K's, or homers. Nothing in between. Nobody's BABIP ever stays that low. Pretty ridiculous to suggest otherwise. Dunn's career is .286 and even in his 2011 season it was .240.
  18. QUOTE (CB2.0 @ Jun 24, 2016 -> 07:39 AM) No. The very definition of an "inning" is the recording of 3 outs. That he threw pitches in an inning and didn't record ANY outs (in fact - all he did was walk two people) does NOT constitute any measure of "+" innings. It's astounding you can't grasp this. A pitcher's job is to record outs while allowing a minimal of runs to score. That's all ANY pitchers job is. Shields recorded 15 outs - that's 5 INNINGS. No more, no less. That is how the game works. No. The very definition of an inning is a turn at bat UNTIL 3 outs are recorded. Many other things can happen in an inning. If you've never heard pitching 5 full innings and then facing batters in the 6th without recording an out referred to as pitching 5+ I wonder if you've ever actually watched a baseball game. That is exactly what 5+ plus means. That is where the plus comes in. The pitcher pitched 5 full innings plus additional batters. If he had recorded an out they would say 5 1/3 or 5 2/3 and would not say the plus. The whole point in saying 5+ is so that people know that he did pitch in the 6th inning.
  19. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jun 24, 2016 -> 06:49 AM) Your hat is safe. In the end the stats show 5.0 IP because he did not record an out in the 6th. If that is the case then using the same logic Albers didn't pitch in this game because his stat line shows 0 IP. The box score for this clearly states that James Shields pitched 5 innings with the additional statement "J Shields faced 2 batters in the 6th inning". Meaning he pitched more than 5 innings.
  20. QUOTE (CB2.0 @ Jun 24, 2016 -> 06:34 AM) Technically, he WALKED 2 batters in the 6th which means they don't even count as ABs. Nope. It doesn't matter if they counted as official ABs. If he pitches to one batter in the 6th every commentator and every fan who has even half an idea what they are talking about would say that Shields went 5+ innings, which is more than 5. You are wrong here and in pretty much every other post you ever make.
  21. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jun 23, 2016 -> 01:40 PM) Good f*** Boston. I don't like any teams from Boston unless it's the Sox beating the Yankees. A White Sox fan calling the Red Sox "The Sox"? Tsk, tsk. You should have to turn in your fan card.
  22. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jun 23, 2016 -> 01:27 PM) Hawks out for blood I'm just GameDaying it. What's he saying? Thinking it's intentional?
  23. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 23, 2016 -> 01:18 PM) Shields doesn't have much of a difference between his fastball and change up velocity wise It's been as low as 5 MPH and and as high as 8 MPH today. If he can keep it closer to that 8 MPH he's fine.
  24. My codes came back. Used them to buy 4 tickets to Black Sabbath in Tinley Park in September.
  25. QUOTE (RegionSox @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 05:42 PM) I looked yesterday and i had 8 freebie pairs and 8 discount codes and when i looked today i only see 8 discount codes. Yep, my free ticket codes seemed to have disappeared also. Now I just have a couple discount codes on there.
