  1. QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 30, 2016 -> 12:37 PM) going to coming to the sox shields and their 3 comp picks. going to the padres - hakins, danish, lowry and hell even trey. now why should they, padres want to do this, help in prospects coming in, loosing salary money and the team salary will be at 68-70 mil. I've seen you suggest including comp picks in trades many different times on here. Once again, you cannot trade draft picks. The only draft picks you can trade are the competitive balance picks and even those have certain restrictions that need to be followed.
  2. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Mar 29, 2016 -> 02:05 PM) The Yankees do not have carriage problems. YES not only has long term deals signed, but fox sports owns the channel now. Dish Network does not carry Yes and as of now a deal has not been reached with Comcast. Those are two pretty big providers that do not carry it simply because of the outrageous price they are trying to charge.
  3. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Mar 29, 2016 -> 01:41 PM) Ok. So your criticism of Hawk's homerism is backed by an article written by a Royals homer? By the way that author took what Hawk said completely out of context. I remember this very vividly. Hawk was not talking about which team was better overall last year. He was talking about a very specific three game series that they had just played during a time when Melky and Eaton were red hot, Alex Gordon was injured and the Royals were starting Edinson Volquez, Jeremy Guthrie and Danny Duffy for the three games. I agree with him. The Sox should have been able to win that series but because of the Royals fundamentals and execution the Sox lost all three by one run.
  4. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Mar 29, 2016 -> 12:50 PM) I don't get the fascination with Rollins. I mean, he deserves to make the team, but I still think Saladino is the better player. That aside, it looks as though Rollins will be our #2 hitter? I'd much rather have Melky or even Austin Jackson there than a guy who hit worse than Saladino and Flowers last year. I assume you are saying that Saladino had a higher batting average than Rollins last year right? Because Rollins had a fairly significantly higher OPS. Saladino hit for a .2245 average last year while Rollins managed a meager .2243. A difference of .0002, or roughly 1 hit in every 5000 at bats. But yeah, let's give him the starting job because of it over Rollins who is a former MVP out to prove himself again and is looking revitalized this spring.
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 28, 2016 -> 08:45 PM) Opening Day should be 15 day games. 5 at noon, 5 at 1, 5 at 3. And it should be the day Presidents Day is observed. Huh? You think opening day should be in the middle of February?
  6. QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Mar 29, 2016 -> 09:55 AM) I am too young to remember Hawk from his early Sox broadcasting years. Was he ever considered a great broadcaster or was he always a homer? He's been a homer as long as I've been watching (since the early '90s). Here's a pretty epic rant by him fairly early on his career. In his defense this was a pretty terrible call.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 28, 2016 -> 11:14 AM) Hawaii? Yes, there are huge Asian populations there, but way below average in anything else. Washington is more white on average than the US is. Alaska does have a big Indian population, but is far below average in Hispanic and black, and close to average in white population. Hawaii has the lowest percentage of whites in the USA along with the highest percentage of both Asians and multiracial people. Washington has roughly average white population with higher than average Asian, Native and multiracial populations. Alaska has a high Native and mixed rate population with roughly 50% of newborns being a minority To say that Bernie won these states because they are "white states" is pretty ridiculous.
  8. QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 28, 2016 -> 10:26 AM) You'd never know about Bernie's big Saturday because the media is practically ignoring it. The favoritism in the media on both sides is ridiculous. Even in the reports I have read on it the media is using the way Washington awards its delegates to make it seem like Bernie only cut her lead by 35 delegates when in reality it will be closer to a 65 or so gain once the rest of the delegates are awarded. One article I read made the ridiculous assertion that Bernie continues to do well in "predominantly white, caucus states" despite the fact that Washington, Hawaii and Alaska are three of the most ethnically diverse states in the USA. The media bias is really out of hand.
  9. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 28, 2016 -> 10:14 AM) Probably about the same as Hillary getting arrested. Not sure what odds those are. They absolutely would. That's why super delegates exist. I don't think this would happen. If Bernie passed Hillary in pledged delegates and the super delegates gave her the nomination anyways she would stand zero chance of winning in November. The "Bernie or Bust" movement is already gaining steam and would really take off if Bernie gets screwed out of the nomination.
  10. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 24, 2016 -> 12:01 PM) Why not? EJ has no future here and Danks, Turner, and Latos are lottery tickets. I wouldn't mind bringing back Floyd just for depth. And where are you going to store him for depth? If the Sox were to acquire him he would have to be in the Majors or he would be gone. He cannot be sent to the minors as a player with 5 years service time without his permission (which he would not give). Even if he did give permission they would have to expose him to waivers and with his salary and strong spring he would be gone in a second. Do some of you guys forget that you can only have 25 men on the active roster? You can't just acquire a bunch of veteran guys for depth just in case something happens. It doesn't work that way.
  11. Went and saw The Who Monday night at the Bradley Center. Incredible show. Townshend's guitar playing is as good, if not better, than ever and Daltrey's voice was better than it has been in recent years. You could tell that it's kind of going with his old age but he hit all the notes when he had to, most notably in Love Reign O'er Me and his legendary scream in Won't Get Fooled Again. The only complaint is that the seats at the Bradley Center suck ass. They are very narrow and the rows are so close together that your knees are hitting the back of the person in front of you's head. Makes for somewhat of an uncomfortable night for a 280 lb guy.
  12. QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 01:14 PM) This could be an additional reason (plus arm angle) why Sale fell to the Sox. Nah. Some projected him as a reliever and he had sign-ability/health concerns. That is why he fell.
  13. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 01:05 PM) Do we know what would have happened if LaRoche would not have retired? Kenny Williams asked LaRoche to tone it down. Did he put out a mandate that said he HAD to tone it down? What kind of grievance would even be filed? LaRoche decided to retire instead of challenging some new "policy". The policy really was never even enacted because LaRoche took his ball and went home instead. From what I read yesterday (don't remember where) KW did tell LaRoche to tone it down a week ago or so. LaRoche didn't comply so they talked again and that is when all of this went down.
  14. Man I hope KW ends up resigning or getting fired over this. I've wanted that guy gone since he tried trading The Big Hurt after 2002 and hated him even more after his tirade against Frank when he left after 2005. The guy is an absolute ego maniac and I don't believe a word that comes out of his mouth.
  15. I believe 100% that the Sox and LaRoche had an agreement that his boy could be there. Was it in writing? Doubt it. Was it specifically stated he could be there 100% of the time? Doubt it. I'm sure it went something like this. RH: Okay Adam, 2 years $25 million is what we can do. Does that work for you? AL: Sure the money works out fine. But let me ask, what is your policy on kids in the clubhouse? I won't play in a place that my kid is not welcome. RH: That's no problem. We have an open clubhouse, feel free to bring him around whenever you like. AL: Okay you got yourself a deal. I believe that some sort of that type of conversation happened, but I don't think the Sox really understood that LaRoche meant that his kid would be there 100% of the time.
  16. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 02:58 PM) That's true. I just want him to be on the Sox for his entire career and it sucks knowing that he'll go elsewhere in a few years. I'll still root for him either way, but it won't be the same when he's on another team. I know you're young and all and haven't experienced it near as much as the older guys, but you really need to get off the "I hope Chris Sale plays his whole career with the White Sox" thing. There is never going to be too many HOF type guys that stay with one team their whole career anymore. If you're counting on it with Sale you're just setting yourself up for disappointment. I was 6 Frank Thomas's rookie year and 21 when the Sox kicked him to the curb. I always had the same thought as you about being devastated by him not playing his whole career with the Sox, but when it happens you realize it's a business and it's really not as hard as you always thought it was going to be.
  17. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 02:52 PM) Well, the slim chance of Sale coming back to the Sox after his contract is up has officially bit the dust. You really think what's happened the last couple days has any bearing on whether Sale will re-sign 4.5 years from now? Come on.
  18. QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 02:24 PM) Go play in traffic. You shouldn't say things like that on the internet. It might reflect badly on your employer.
  19. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 02:16 PM) He shouldn't have to worry about that. He'll always have his education to fall back on. Yea he probably will. I'm sure he gets a much better education working with a private Sylvan tutor than he would in a public school.
  20. QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 02:16 PM) Uh, because when you're a pro athlete and a public figure and you say controversial stuff on Twitter, it reflects poorly on your employer. I shouldn't have to explain that to a grown adult. I follow Eaton on Twitter and I do not recall one time ever reading a tweet of his and thinking to myself that he probably should not have said that. The only one that I can think of that was close was his Oscar's tweet that was poorly worded but nowhere near the controversy people pretended it to be. Eaton doesn't go down to Burger King and try to tell you how to do your job, don't try to tell him how to do his.
  21. QUOTE (Condor13 @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 02:02 PM) I go back to what I said yesterday. KW looks like a complete *** and is destroying this teams chemistry. I mean what other organization would let a VP destroy **** the way KW has done. The players apparently we're all opposed to KW, and Sale (your damn prized possession) was so furious with KW that he told him to get the **** out of the locker room and stat out. Sale is right, KW is the VP but thinks he is the Manger and the GM. Stay the **** out of the locker room cause all he has manged to do is **** things up year after year. He might have even cost the sox a future with sale as thir ace. KW has to ******* go and now!!! Rant over. Do you need an Aspirin or something?
  22. QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 02:08 PM) So it's not OK to criticize somebody for their unprofessional overuse of Twitter if they do nice things every so often? I didn't get the memo. What unprofessional overuse of Twitter? Do you think these guys are supposed to be f***ing robots programmed for your entertainment and have their lives stop when they're not on the ball diamond? Who the f*** are you to judge what is and what is not professional appropriate use for Twitter?
  23. QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 01:47 PM) I love Eaton on the field. Off the field, not so much. Yea what a total asshat off the field this guy is. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-leag...-065247398.html
  24. QUOTE (soxfan85 @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 01:12 PM) Or, does he sit on twitter all day and talk trash? What an immature, overpaid idiot. Honestly, he needs to shut up and take care of business. Play ball, that is what he is paid to do. Send Eaton packing with LaRoche. soxfan85 - what you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
