Kansas City Royals vs Chicago White Sox 3:10 PM
cabiness42 replied to Kyyle23's topic in 2014 Season in Review
Sox are 3rd in MLB in OPB, 1st in SLG, and T-1st in HR. -
Well, off topic a bit but what I think is eventually going to happen is that the approximately 70 "power-conference" schools are going to split from the NCAA entirely and form their own association, so they can have different rules than the rest of the schools.

Dear Mike Brey, Berkeley is a fantastic place (so I've heard). You will love it there. Take the job. -
Except that Mark's father-in-law isn't nearly as awesome as Jamie's.

Bet he doesn't get intentionally walked this time. -
There is already a national ID system--it's called the FBI (and likely the NSA) having access to all 51 state/district ID systems.
-
One of these things is not like the other:
-
DeAza really should bat 2nd vs RHP. I guess Semien for now vs LHP, but once Beckham gets back it's either him, Ramirez, or AGArcia, and none of them is ideal.

I do think that the voting system needs to be nationalized, at least for Presidential election years. Require every state to issue ID cards/driver's licenses that store voter registration information in the magnetic strip. When you register to vote in a new state, the system automatically deletes your previous state's registration. When you die, your ID is swiped and the system automatically deletes your voter registration. When you show up to vote, your ID is swiped and the system will know whether or not you've already voted in another location. Either the Federal or state governments pay the cost for those who choose to get just an ID card and not a driver's license. Note: This system would only track whether or not you've voted. There would be no connection to your actual ballot.

I'm not going to "get on" Semien. It's not his fault that he isn't ready to be a major league player. He needs to play every day at AAA. I think he's eventually going to be a good player, but as of right now, the less time he spends in the majors, the better it is for him in the long run. It may be a blessing in disguise that he is off to such a terrible start so the Sox aren't tempted to keep him up when Beckham comes off the DL.

OK then, I guess Chicago doesn't do warm fronts.
-
The front coming through today is a warm front, so it should be 10 degrees warmer than yesterday. At least it is down here.

High School Football ~ Texas Sized
cabiness42 replied to Texsox's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Yes, but at least those are a bit more practical than a super-fancy football stadium. You can play basketball, volleyball, plus hold practices, school assemblies, and gym classes. A lot of these football stadiums in Texas are getting used only 6-8 times a year for football games. -
#2 is very true, but now even Mitch is facing a very strong right-wing primary challenge because he has done his job and make compromises in order to get bills passed. Even my Congressmen, who is already pretty far right, is facing a even farther right primary challenger whose entire platform is that my Congressman is a coward for ultimately voting on October 17 to end the government shutdown even though he had been voting against resolving the shutdown right up until that point.

There is definitely a single shooter, except that there might be two. The shooter is in custody, but maybe not. One person is confirmed dead, but there are no confirmed fatalities.

Me too, but that stadium was not paid for by a high school. -

Alejandro DeAza says hi. Twice. -
Yeah, this is a huge problem. You have 50,000 (give or take a few) ultra-rich people on each side of the spectrum pushing each party farther and farther away from the center. Since it's not constitutional to eliminate the influence of the money, the only other solution is to find people with money willing to spend it on moderate candidates in both parties.

I like to see Mark do well because of what he meant to the franchise and because the door seems to be open for him to return. I like to see Brandon do well because of what he went through with that injury and because he's hilarious. Don't care one way or the other about the rest. -
