  1. What I always said is that if you can fill the other 8 lineup spots with average or better hitters, you can carry BA's bat in the 9 spot because he's just that good defensively. Of course, he probably isn't still that good defensively.
  2. His career ERA is 3.81 though. Even if you use that standard instead of his FIP it doesn't really move the needle much. Like I said, he needed a couple more 2005-like seasons. EDIT: You do make a good point about how valuing pitching shouldn't be entirely fielding-independent if the pitcher himself is adding the value through his fielding. Kinda the same line of thinking as to why it's really dumb that a run is still unearned even if it's the pitcher's own dumbass error that allowed the run to score. It's as if the guy throwing the pitches and the guy fielding the position are treated as two separate guys.
  3. Mark needed at least 2 more years like 2005 in order to get into the HOF discussion. Yes, five more years at his current production compiles him some very nice career totals. But a FIP over 4 does not scream HOF at me, regardless for how long you do it.
  4. Well, your name IS raBBit . . .
  5. And the #8 seed lost to both teams that played in the title game. They had no business being in any playoff. If you can find a way that the teams with byes aren't disadvantaged by the longer layoff, I can get on board with 6 teams, but teams 7 and 8 have no business competing for a championship.
  6. Dunn >>> Kingman Kingman's career slash line was 236/302/478 Dunn's career slash line was 237/364/490 with almost 1000 more PA. I don't think Dunn is HOF either, but he deserves a lot more votes than Kingman ever got.
  7. I don't like the climate in Miami or Seattle, and I just don't care for New England in general.
  8. Would have been my preference as well. Not sure why he's still around.
  9. That's close to what I have: $89.55M for 11 roster players under contract for 2015 $15.4M for 5 roster players who are arbitration eligible for 2015 $4.95M for 9 roster players who are pre-arbitration for 2015 $5.5M for 2 non-roster players who are owed money on contracts in 2015 Adds up to $115.4M
  10. No, 8 teams is too much. Having to win three games to win the championship starts to make it more like basketball where the best team isn't likely to win it all.
  11. Start asking everybody you live near/work with where they take their cars. The first place to get mentioned twice is where you go.
  12. Up to the top of the list with this thread.
  13. I hope ND makes the playoffs every year, but especially in the Rose Bowl years because that's on my bucket list.
  14. I miss the days when the Cotton and Citrus were on at 1pm, the Rose and Fiesta at 4:30 and the Orange and Sugar at 8:00. That was the best day of the year back when they did it that way.
  15. Whenever those discount codes come out I'll be looking for one for Saturday 6/6.
  16. OK, I'm going to think like a player and not like a fan. The Cubs would be #2 after the Sox for the reason that I like Chicago that much more than any other major league city. I'm not going to list a single #3, but if I can't live in Chicago, my next tier of choices would be Cincinnati, St. Louis, Denver and Milwaukee Cities I really want no part of are Seattle, Boston, Philadelphia, Miami, Tampa
  17. When Andy Wilkins is a 1B and Jordan Danks is a CF, you need a better reason than that.
  18. Don't get why you DFA Danks before Wilkins.
  19. Any chance he sticks around on a minor league deal? Especially if his brother isn't traded?
  20. I think the standard for "too cold" is a geographical thing. I don't think Chicago/Milwaukee schools close for the temperatures we are having here.
  21. In my mind this is more of a geographical than generational thing. The last 8 years I've lived 300 miles farther south than I've ever lived before. I chalk it up to, "people down here are just wusses compared to people farther north."
  22. Yes, depending on the subject, data is released regularly on the websites of the Department of Labor, Department of Justice, Department of HHS, Department of Education and Census Bureau websites. Health insurance data can be found here: http://www.census.gov/hhes/www/hlthins/
  23. Yeah, the numbers are probably similar, but give your hard-working, tax-supported employees some props and use our data!
  24. Gallup (and any other private organization) is a dirty world in government statistical circles. We publish an awful lot of data that is a lot better than theirs.
