I think "route" sounding like "root" is a thing I picked up living in the South, but not sure. Couldn't think of another "ou" making an "oo" sound word. Thanks for the answer, regardless. Edit: "Wound" as in injury.

Yeah, I was a young kid in the 90s, but it seemed like we got all these random guys who would just be great. Dave Martinez came to us at age 30, coming off three injury-riddled NL seasons where he accumulated a .677 OPS. With us for the 1995-97 seasons, he played 409 games and had an .810 OPS. DJ had a ,678 OPS when he came to us in 1994 and put up an .817 OPS. Julio Franco had a career year with us that same year, at age 35. Mike Devereaux goes .109 beyond his established career OPS in 92 games with us in 1995 until we trade him for Andre King (???). Lyle Mouton and Norberto Martin post solid numbers in utility roles for several years of the late '90s. Brook Fordyce was a nobody who became a solid catcher for a few years (funnily, ten year old me thought he was awful, probably because he hit nine home runs in 1999, and I thought everyone should hit 40 like in video games). That aside, he had an .802 OPS in 105 games that year! And then Chris Singleton comes out of nowhere to be well above average for a couple of years. Now as an adult, I'm used to hitters coming to us and totally sucking (Swisher, Dunn, LaRoche, Frazier, etc), and when we do have a success story, it's someone like Daniel Palka being a flash in the pan. Our randoms never seem to turn into useful players anymore (ok, ok James McCann), but it wasn't always like this. I miss those 90s teams.

He had like 80 PAs in AAA last year.

Hmm. I'd take the guy with the better health history and the longer track record of destroying the minors. Rodgers has done this consistently for almost four seasons now. Robert has done it for 32 games. He should spend the rest of the season at Birmingham, stay healthy, and, assuming his trends hold true, start at Charlotte next year, with an eye toward an MLB debut in September 2020.

Skoug with an RBI double. I was really excited when we drafted that guy, and I always wondered how you pronounced his name was pronounced, whether it was similar to rut, or rout, or route. Unfortunately, I guess it doesn't matter at this point.
-
I think it's a contractual obligation for that guy.
-
To be honest, our development history has probably ruined me. We suck at producing hitters, so when a guy's production in the mid minors is so abysmal (with bad peripherals, like K-rate), I don't really expect them to amount to much. I honestly don't have high hopes for any offensive player in our minor league system, with the exception of Madrigal (because of his insane hit tool). Hope I'm wrong.

Yolmer is a bad base stealer, despite having speed.
-
He's young, but injury prone and rapidly losing development time, and has a severe swing and miss issue.
-
Do you genuinely think Adolfo had a chance to be a contributor at the MLB level for us?
-
27% at WS last year, over 36% in limited time this year. Feel bad for the kid, but as a Sox fan, I don't see this as a huge loss.
-
I'll drop my usual pessimism for a second to note that, while I think Rodon is finished with us, we got more production out of him than the two other guys taken at the top of that draft. In A ball, Brady Aiken has gotten two outs this year, but walked six, and it's not a short season sample, because he walked 101 in 132 IP last year. Tyler Kolek is a 22 year old struggling in rookie ball, or at least, he was last year. Aaron Nola would like nice right now, though.

Micker is barely a prospect at this point. Who cares about keeping him in the organization? He's nobody.

Sure, let’s look at his 33% rate from 2018. Brilliant! -

You gave him a K-rate that he's never had and still ended up 7% short of where you claimed he could be. This is dumb. This is a dumb argument. I think Yoan will be a good player. I just don't think he's going to hit .300. The numbers don't add up, and I do not consider .280 to be "close" to .300. He's going to hit .260-.270, strike out a bunch, and put up an .800 or so OPS. Good, not really a superstar, probably a little less than we'd want in return for Sale, but we'll see what becomes of Kopech and Basabe and probably come out a little bit ahead. -

Not that he realizes it. He just makes up some numbers that Moncada's never yet put up, bumps the BA up to .280 (still a good distance from .300, especially considering it's a made-up, best-case scenario), and declares himself correct. Hilariously sad. -

Fair enough. Either way, this is nitpicking, and it's discussing a best-case scenario that Moncada hasn't proven he can meet yet. He sustained better than a 25% k-rate for all of 26 games or so. He can be a great player, but as far as I'm concerned, the chance that he ever hits .300 is slim to none. -

Eloy's never going to be a high-WAR player because of his defense, or lack thereof. -

Yeah, my calculator isn't perfect because I disregard SFs/SHs/HBPs, but even adjusting his BABIP to .344, his BA in scenario B only climbs to .271. And increased homerun rate will increase his OPS, but have no effect on BA. You were wrong. It's ok. -

Mathematically, it's not. Player A is Moncada's Sox career thus far. Player B is Moncada's Sox career thus far, adjusted to a 25% k-rate with enough singles added in to have his standard .340 BABIP. He hits .268. -

I don't at all think he will hit .300, but if he can increase slightly on last year's power numbers (which it looks like he already has), and keep the Ks around 25%, he will be a good player. Not a superstar, but good. -

Sure, but there's a big difference between 217 times in 650 PAs (33.4%) and, say, 170 times in 650 PAs (26.2%). The latter will be considered to "strike out a lot" but can be a solid or even player. The former is not going to be worthwhile, and certainly won't be what we want or need out of Yoan.
