Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jan 18, 2017 -> 11:49 AM) Ehhhh, slightly debatable. No it isnt. No one on here is asking just make a trade because I want a trade. There's been in depth conversation as to why it may not be prudent to wait sure. But that doesnt equate to that last remark. It's just lazy.

Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 18, 2017 -> 11:33 AM) Which is why we need to be sure that what we get back has the high potential to be an upgrade, and not just a move to make the move. No one on here is arguing for that last part. I get sick of hearing it.

Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 17, 2017 -> 09:56 PM) The rumored package that Hahn wanted initially from the Astros was bad. If he has to accept even less than that, then shame on him. I feel like going over a month without a move has made a lot of people too anxious. The Musgrove one? I thought that was bad for Houston.

Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 17, 2017 -> 09:48 PM) There will be A and AA players that take significant steps forward in the next 6 months. Right and if those teams think they are near the Majors why would they trade them at the deadline? Tucker isnt at AAA or Double A. But he's not so far away that you cant even dream about the team he would be playing for. These teams love their prospects especially Houston. It's a risk that I dont think is going to pan out well because after the deadline the offseason market for Q will probably be at a snails pace. I mean if your waiting until the deadline your atleast crossing Pittsburgh off.

Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 17, 2017 -> 09:35 PM) Don't you think there will be other guys that make a move between now and the deadline that we will want? I think if your discussing anybody in AAA or in the Majors that's going to fall on deaf ears with alot of these teams. Even though the prospect rankings will change. I mean is it impossible to think Hahn's demands are completely asinine for Q? Also as stupid as it is to think Q isnt a top of the line pitcher maybe these teams have a different view of him. Then what? I think baseball has shown over the years that there are plenty of old farts stupid enough to dismiss what the data is showing them.

Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week
I think the point that is missing from the rebuttal of people like me who dont support waiting is Hahn would be deliberately reducing who he could acquire at the deadline. Lets say the Pirates say screw you White Sox we're going with what we have. They bring up Meadows and Glasnow who are both contributing to a team fighting for a playoff spot. You think they are going to be traded now? Nope. Same goes for Houston. They bring up Martes and Tucker moves up a few levels as he's almost ready. You think they are going to get traded? No. White Sox have acquired guys so far that arent far away. Your reducing these teams assets that they need to go fight for a playoff spot. They are going to probably offer you prospects in the lower levels of the farm system. What are the chances another team fighting for that spot sacrifices major league ready talent in the middle of the season? If the answer to that question is unlikely then you have a problem. That's where I'm at...I just dont see a good outcome if he's still on the roster by Spring Training other than him contributing to the team.

Sox holding talks "daily" on Q
QUOTE (hi8is @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 11:08 PM) But Quintana's value will be lower then - haven't you read the 1,800 posts proclaiming so? I bet you if he's not traded now he wont be traded at the deadline

QUOTE (Deadpool @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 06:29 PM) Elite Prospects >>>> "Major league ready talent" In some farm systems those arent mutually exclusive.

Sox holding talks "daily" on Q
I'll keep repeating it until he ends up getting traded but the trade deadline wont help. Your not getting major league or close to major league ready talent from those teams. If your fine with players highly rated down the farm system that's fine. But the market will change after the season starts. If your trading Q trade him now or dont at all.

QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 10:47 AM) Imagine if this drags out to the July trade deadline. If it does just keep him for the 4 years

Sox holding talks "daily" on Q
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 10:37 PM) No, but not so far away that they become incredibly risky either. I'd rather take on a bit more risk and get a better package though than feel like I am settling because I allow the other team to completely dictate terms. I'd rather have quality AA-A ball players as well. Teams are so stingy with prospects though. I think the Pirates eventually cave because they have to. But I dont think it'll be Meadows.

Sox holding talks "daily" on Q
QUOTE (Nokona @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 10:37 PM) Really? Because Benintendi was apparently on the table for Sale in July. Who reported that? I remember him being off limits almost immediately because of how well he was playing. Not to mention the initial talks were about JBJ.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 10:28 PM) Exactly. Hopefully your not expecting to get MLB Ready Prospects in that case.

Sox holding talks "daily" on Q
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 10:11 PM) It definitely carries some risk, which is why I've argued that the price goes up, not down once the season starts. But I do think that the pressure to put a competitive team over the top sometimes trumps these bs games these GMs are playing at the moment. I guess we'll find out. Those two teams(Pirates and Astros) have alot of pressure on them. I'm just not sure it's enough pressure for them to sacrifice everyone we want. Pirates may be content to just stay the course. Whatever that might be.

Sox holding talks "daily" on Q
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 10:04 PM) Oh come on. This guy is basically the second coming of Mark Buehrle. The odds of that are remote. I was being sarcastic. Your taking a risk with prospects we all know that. But I dont see how not trading him is a good thing. Maybe if the free agent compensation didnt change I would be singing a different tune. I think maybe we need to accept these teams value Q at a place where the White Sox are not at and that's all it's going to be. What do the White Sox do then? I dont see the value staying even level in that case.

Sox holding talks "daily" on Q
QUOTE (reiks12 @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 09:58 PM) Flipside of that is true as well. Glasnow shows #5 stuff bu walking 5 per game Keller get TJS Newman has a terrible year Meadows fails to adjust to AAA Etc... and Q blows out his arm. Trade him now or keep him.

Sox holding talks "daily" on Q
What would you rather do if you were the opposing team Overpay for a pitcher on the open market plus not giving up your 1st round pick. The free agent market has some really good names next year. or Trading a huge amount of prospects for a very good pitcher but your emptying your farm our quite a bit

Sox holding talks "daily" on Q
QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 09:55 PM) Or new prospects emerge and today's darlings stumble. Welcome to world of prospects. We have Q signed for 4 freaking years, there is ZERO reason to rush this - even if it means another year Except the price will go down. The CBA turned the clock on for the White Sox. Now prospects become even more valuable with free agency an even more attractive option for the teams in the middle of the draft. Now they dont have to sacrifice their 1st round pick. It's just money. Money is easier to eat when you screw up instead of seeing the guys you just traded on a big league club contributing. I think what your going to get is what your going to get. Either they need to make a trade now or keep him for the 4 years and hope your good by then.

Sox holding talks "daily" on Q
Waiting until the deadline is dangerous. What if Glasnow is pitching? What if Martes is pitching for the Astros? They probably wont want to move those guys if they are contributing to the team. Then your screwed. Look at the free agent list next offseason plus with the change in compensation. I'd tell the White Sox to screw themselves with that asking price with the free agent market becoming much more friendly.

Sox holding talks "daily" on Q
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 08:26 PM) Yeah, they can. Not without a mutiny. They took him out of high school and have a ton of hours developing him. It's not happening. What they get in this offseason is the best it's going to get. So they have to evaluate if that's enough.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 08:21 PM) Guys if Meadows was already on the table Q would be a pirate. If they want Meadows they wont get him. Pirates cant trade him.

Merkin thinks Tucker wont be included. But Dave's trade makes no sense with Fisher and Tucker included.
