  1. Bernardo Flores 5.0 IP, 5H, 2ER, 1BB, 6K. 7.61 K/9 v 1.90 BB/9 on the year. 60% groundball rate. 2.93 ERA. Really like him.
  2. Add Kevan Smith to the list of guys hitting really nicely at Charlotte
  3. Ryan Raburn is hitting really well
  4. Danny Hayes continues to intrigue me. Assuming he cuts his strikeouts back to his usual levels I'm looking forward to hopefully seeing him get a chance after the trade deadline.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ May 1, 2017 -> 08:16 PM) I would rather see Danish. Maybe put Covey in the pen to see if he can throw harder? As a starter, he's awful Danish is striking nobody out. Carson Fulmer is a lot closer to being ready.
  6. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 1, 2017 -> 09:09 PM) The year after the Sox traded him Devenski had a 7.88 ERA in 75 innings at A+ ball as a 22-year-old. Is it possible the Astros development team had something to do with his improvement? In 2014 he put up almost identical peripherals at AA and had a 3.92 ERA. I don't pay much attention to MiLB ERA. He obviously improved a lot though. But they could have given up a bag of balls for Brett Myers and I still would have hated that trade.
  7. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 1, 2017 -> 08:55 PM) Yeah, no reason to get rid of him until you have to. His purpose is to eat innings until his spot is needed for someone with long-term potential. Until then let him contribute to the rebuild by losing once a week. I prefer the rebuilds that try various intriguing players as starters rather than just toss out random mediocre minor-leaguers to deliberately lose. Nobody's saying to promote Giolito or Lopez, just to try things out. There were also more intriguing Rule 5 options imo.
  8. QUOTE (flavum @ May 1, 2017 -> 07:44 PM) Whoever Thomas Pannone is, he's having a helluva season. Was just reading about him on Fangraphs yesterday: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/thomas-pann...puts-up-zeroes/
  9. QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 1, 2017 -> 08:53 PM) I understand where you're coming from but it's also been six years since he's really been a starter in any serious fashion. Again, it's personal preference but I'd prefer not to screw with something that is working for now. I get it, I just don't see how even trying him for a spot start f***s with him so much that he's not the same guy if he goes back to the pen
  10. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 1, 2017 -> 08:48 PM) No way you mess with Swarzak right now. His velocity increase coincides with his switch to the bullpen. Plus what is the upside in converting him anyways? It actually doesn't. He moved to the bullpen in 2012 and the velo started ticking up in 2015. The upside is obvious, he's worth more to the Sox as a competent 5th starter than a 6th inning guy.
  11. QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 1, 2017 -> 08:45 PM) I'm hesitant to f*** with Swarzak at all. He looks like a competent reliever, I'd rather not screw with one of the things that is working. He's been a starter most of his career though. Not like it's something he's not comfortable with. And you'd know very quickly if it was something you wanted to continue (velocity would be a big indicator).
  12. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 1, 2017 -> 08:39 PM) While I don't disagree, we also weren't rebuilding when Guerra was around. I know, I just had to shoehorn that in somewhere. While we're on the subject of shoehorned White Sox dumbass pitching decisions, Chris Devenski, who we gave up for Brett f***ing Myers, has been *incredible* this season. 17.28 K/9 v 1.08 BB/9 in 16.2 IP.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ May 1, 2017 -> 08:36 PM) He's got to be one of the most mediocre starters the Sox have had in a while. Oh well, just needs to give innings while Rodon gets his arm amputated I'd give him back to the Athletics, try Swarzak for a couple of starts and promote Cory Luebke.
  14. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 1, 2017 -> 08:34 PM) Wow. As weird as it is to say, I hadn't noticed he had gotten his average up to .183. Now to see if this taking walks stuff is real. I'm 90% sure I remember him saying that was something he worked on in the offseason/spring. BB% up from 6.5 in 2015 to 9.6 last year and 13.9 this year.
  15. Bums me out that this org saw fit to give Covey a shot at a 5th starter spot a year after it decided Junior Guerra hadn't earned one
  16. Frazier is a nice BABIP run away from having a real nice triple slash. Currently at .183/.306/.417 with a .182 BABIP. Lots of pop-ups don't help that but he's also been quite unlucky. If he can manage to get to something like .240/.345/.450 he could be a nice piece at the deadline.
  17. QUOTE (Scoots @ May 1, 2017 -> 08:04 PM) Coveys leaving everything center cut in the middle, batting practice pitches, offspeed pitches with zero deception, how they have not scored yet is beyond me. They just had one of their worst offensive months in franchise history
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ May 1, 2017 -> 07:45 PM) Covey has nothing on these pitches. Sinker up in the zone and curve he can't command. If the Royals don't score on him they deserve to be liquidated
  19. K/BB rates of tonight's starters: Vargas - 14 (9.82 K/9 v 0.70 BB/9) Covey - 0.75 (3.77 K/9 v 5.02 BB/9)
  20. 30 days has September, Apr-ah f*** it
  21. Barons won 6-5 Eddy Alvarez 2 for 3, BB. Has been heating up. http://mlbfarm.com/index.php?team=CWS
  22. Man that Jordan Zimmerman contract has gotten ugly pretty fast. 5.64 K/9 v 2.22 BB/9 last year, 4.87 ERA. 4.38 K/9 v 2.92 BB/9 this year. 6.20 ERA. Still owed about $90m for the next 4 years.
