5/6 Games
QUOTE (fathom @ May 6, 2017 -> 08:24 PM) Still gives up way too many hits to be a legit MLB starter Not sure I follow this. If the strikeouts aren't there, he'll give up too many hits, sure. But if they're there, as the poster you're quoting is hoping, he shouldn't. Unless you think he has a particular negative ability to control balls in play that basically no other pitcher has (stats show pitchers have very little control of their BABIP).

May 6th Game Thread: White Sox at Baltimore
Just to clarify, I meant that Matt Cooper is not a top prospect in the sense that he is not ranked at the top of prospect lists and not at an age-appropriate level, and should therefore be exempt from service time concerns, not that I don't think he's a legit prospect. I think he'll be a quality major-league starter.

QUOTE (flavum @ May 6, 2017 -> 07:29 PM) What's DJ Carrasco up to? This team needs a rubber armed reliever that can pitch 90-100 innings. I know I'm obsessed, but Swarzak genuinely can be that guy imo

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 6, 2017 -> 07:13 PM) Covey has a purpose and it's to delay calling up our important prospects before they're ready. I honestly think some posters here don't realize we're rebuilding. Who exactly would you like to see up instead of Covey? Matt Cooper is nearly 26, not a top prospect and has double the AA innings as Covey. This year he's K'ing 34% of batters and walking 6%. White Sox promoted Quintana straight from AA. I'd much rather see him than Covey, to give one example.

End the Covey experiment now. He is just not good, and probably never will be.

5/5 Games
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 5, 2017 -> 08:04 PM) I haven't really dove into his stats this year until now but yeesh, what a weird f***in line on the year. Coming into today's game he had an ERA of 7.01 and a FIP of 1.76!

White Sox bullpen is good now but will be better if Luebke and Burdi replace Ynoa and Holmberg

Jordan Guerrero is doing things this year, if you ignore his ridiculous ERA. 5.0 IP, 4H, 1R, 1BB, 8K.

Willy Garcia threw that ball back in at 100.5 mph

Jose Abreu looks really good. Too many here had given up on getting stuff back for him.

Zack Burdi has been dominant this year. Throwing strikes.

Innings like this should be for Chris Beck, not Cy Swarzak

Melky seems to have reverted to the version of himself that puts up a negative WAR every second year

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 2, 2017 -> 07:32 PM) Q ERA watch - down from 5.22 at the start of the night to 4.59 now. Can get it to 3.99 with a complete game shutout. 4.33. 71 pitches through 6.

5/2 Games
QUOTE (bmags @ May 2, 2017 -> 09:00 PM) He's lefty correct? Yep. Lefties have a .193/.257/.280 line off him in the majors. Righties .234/.308/.389. Was worth 2.7 WAR in 2011 splitting time starting and in the pen. Two Tommy Johns since then. Was lights out for Pittsburgh at AAA last year, control problems in 8 MLB innings but has never really struggled with that before.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 2, 2017 -> 08:57 PM) it's especially annoying that he literally struck out Garcia on the same garbage slider off the play minutes ago. Is he even watching what the pitcher is doing out there? He's a guess hitter.

Really not liking what I'm seeing out of Tim's bat. No progress.

Cory Luebke returned tonight for Charlotte, striking out 2 in a scoreless inning. Looking forward to seeing him in Chicago, think he'll be a valuable piece.

Just like Frazier, Soto is a good candidate for a nice triple-slash as soon as he gets some positive BABIP regression.

Frazier up to .206/.320/.429, 110 wRC+, with positive defensive grading and neutral baserunning.

Watching Chris Sale right now makes it even more mind-boggling what the White Sox did to him last year with the 'pitch to contact' BS and the horrible framing
