Just ran Todd Frazier's expected BABIP through a calculator and his xBABIP is .284. That would mean (assuming a similar split between types of hit, slightly weighted towards singles) a batting line of .264/.375/.546. That's a lot more of a valuable deadline piece than he looks now, simply attempting to remove luck.

Not that any of them are mega-prospects, but hopefully Jose Vinicio doesn't continue to get regular at-bats with Peter, Alvarez and Dickman in a 2B/SS logjam at AA.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 02:44 PM) Smith was not good in the minors. Narvaez was worse, but Narvaez is improving. He's also 25 v 29. Heck he had a home run today. Leadoff double from the 9 hole hitter, and the manager bunts to play for 1 run. Not good? He was an above-average hitter at every stop. Narvaez, thanks to his total lack of power, was well below-average at several stops. Nice plate discipline but unless the power comes he won't threaten at the major-league level. And Smith is 29 but iirc was a college QB at Pitt and didn't commit full-time to baseball until 23 or 24. And the framing gap is significant (although surprising, given the difference in reputation).

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 02:24 PM) Why is Smith batting anyway? Narvaez is the better hitter. Narvaez should start 2/3 of the games anyway - let's see what we have in him. His OBP is good, the stats say his D is pretty good Except Smith's been the (much) better hitter in the minors and actually rates as much the better framer thus far

Frazier to Boston Rumors getting heavy

Would prefer to trade Robertson to someone else, not really enamoured with Boston's system after their top couple of prospects -
Nationals acquire Doolittle/Madson from As
Feeky Magee replied to Whisox05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Treinen and Madson don't actually project a lot differently going forward, Treinen is cheaper and Madson is 37. Doolittle for those two seems a little light, but Luzardo is the wild card, sort of prospect that could make a big rankings leap very quickly. -
7/14 Games (Fulmer, Kopech, Dunning)

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 09:35 PM) He really has no business still being down in the AZL. Extra bases have obviously been nice but he's coming off a college season where he struck out 32% of the time and it's been 40% so far in the AZL. I imagine they'll want that to improve before sending him to Kanny, although their catchers have been awful. -
Anthony Swarzak to Brewers; Sox receive Ryan Cordell
Feeky Magee replied to username's topic in Pale Hose Talk
People need to stop saying this has come out of nowhere or that it's a career year that he's very unlikely to replicate. He's pitching basically the exact same as he did for the Yankees last year, minus the ridiculous home runs, and similarly to how he pitched for the Yankees AAA in 2016 and the Indians AAA/MLB in 2015. He added a few mph onto the fastball and has since then been a dependable 9ish K/9 to a 2ish BB/9, 45ish GB%. That's likely gonna lead to around a 3 ERA, with the usual reliever variance depending on LOB%, HR/FB% and BABIP. Add to that his ability to go multiple innings as a former starter and that's a valuable piece. -
QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 11:50 AM) The Barons pitching staff is surprisingly good. Beyond Kopech, who has ace potential, you have Adams, Stephens, and Guerrero all with a decent chance to become MLB starters. The White Sox pitching depth in the minors is pretty incredible right now. Matt Cooper too.

Q may get moved "sooner than you think"
Feeky Magee replied to Princess Dye's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Fwiw, Fangraphs' KATOH+ projection model (mix of stats and prospect rankings) puts Albies as the #8 prospect in baseball, and Brinson 31. The regular KATOH model (straight stats) has Albies at 8 and Brinson at 49 (Charlie Tilson 55!). -
Spencer Adams isn't a favourite when people list their future rotations but he might be one of the safest bets. I see him as close to a surefire 4th/5th with the K% deciding if he ends up better than that.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 07:47 PM) Albies - SS Moncada - 2B Anderson - CF ? Potentially, although I'd be hesitant to give up on Anderson at SS just yet, I mean we've seen him be a plus SS at the major-league level. This year has been a big setback alright. I'm just not sure the bat will play unless he's the SS defender we saw last year. -

Albies is my favourite of the potential headliners. Blocked at 2B by Moncada, but wouldn't think he's blocked at SS by Anderson after his year, contract or no. Albies, Soroka and Rio Ruiz gets it done for me. -
27 PA, 1 strikeout so far at Kanny for Burger/Sheets
-
Yeah, given the current trade value of elite relievers, I'm not sure I'd be crying about a guy striking out over 14 per 9 aged 22 at AAA. Obviously you can pick a few taken after him that you'd rather have, but he's probably in the top 26 most valuable players from that draft right now.

QUOTE (Saladino'sMustache @ Jul 5, 2017 -> 04:09 PM) Make that 6 stolen bases against, 4 of them uncontested They've been getting huge jumps. Smith should call out his pitchers in his post-game interview. -

Minaya's been getting a lot of strikeouts. Needs to get his walks and grounders closer to the levels he had in the minors. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 5, 2017 -> 04:31 PM) Davidson bomb. #18. Yet his fWAR is only around 0.4/0.5. Ranked 225th of 229 batters with over 200 PA in baserunning. -

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 5, 2017 -> 03:04 PM) He has an 82 wRC+ despite a .350 BABIP, I wouldn't get too excited just yet. 85 now. But I'm not getting too excited, hence why I mentioned the power and the walks, though I expect a reduction in BABIP should be offset by an increase in walks and a slight uptick in power comparable to what we saw in the minors. And given the fact he's actually rated in the top third of pitch framers, if that holds up, a wRC+ of 85 would make him a borderline starting catcher.
