  1. One of the worst 3-pitch sequences to end an at-bat I've ever seen from Grichuk
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 3, 2018 -> 09:28 PM) Is there a financial reason we didn’t break camp with a Ross/Rondon/Cedeno? as far as I'm aware they were all minor league deals with no (big) major league guarantees. Strange. Cedeno in particular is my choice for this year's Swarzak if/when he gets up
  3. Worth noting that the White Sox have two pitchers in the minor leagues who project comfortably better than most pitchers appearing today, in Xavier Cedeno and Robbie Ross
  4. Not too sure why we bothered resigning Gonzalez and his 5.39 SIERA/5.65 xFIP. Would have preferred just to do what the Twins did with Pineda and throw one of the Guererro-type fringe prospects at the 5th starter slot and see if something stuck.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 08:41 AM) But just think about it, his FIP and xFIP were good in 2017, better than in years. Why wasn't he worth anything in the trade market? If these are signs he is a top 25 reliever, why did KC have to include cash and one of their best relievers team controlled for 5 seasons to get rid of him? And why, if he put up the exact same xFIP and FIP the first half of 2018, which no one would actually wager anything although they keep saying its' the best measure of what he will be, would he be worth considerably more than he is now with these numbers? Why did nobody else care about Anthony Swarzak to give him anything above a minor-league deal last year despite his peripherals indicating that he was a good major league reliever? The league still seems to occasionally miss on some guys with gaudy ERAs and good peripherals. Not that Soria's an extreme example of this, his home runs were suppressed so I wouldn't take too much notice of his FIP, but he pitched like a roughly 3 ERA guy should last year. The reason he's not worth a whole lot on the trade market is he's due to be paid $10m next year and most teams probably figure they can find a 3 ERA bullpen guy for less.
  6. Nicky Delmonico continues to make KATOH look good.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 21, 2017 -> 08:39 PM) Not at all, don't think his stuff will improve a lot out of the pen. I think Cease is the closer in two years I'll take Zack Burdi
  8. "How bad did your MLB start go?" "Dylan Covey came in to relieve me and looked better" "Ouch"
  9. Would like to know what the Sox were looking at when they signed Holland for $6m. Hopefully next year they look more towards analytics for their sign-to-flip candidates.
  10. QUOTE (Soha @ Aug 17, 2017 -> 06:56 AM) The Phllies and Giants play 4 this weekend. This would be a really good time for the Sox to lay an egg in Texas. As for predictions, I'll go with the Sox ending up with the 4th pick in the draft. The tough part of the schedule is now behind us, and most of the bottom 7 or 8 teams just don't seem to win very often. Sox are getting the 1st or 2nd pick. Book it.
  11. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 11, 2017 -> 12:57 PM) Yeah, one of our best relievers who happens to be a lefty? Unexpected. Not sure what you're basing that on other than his ERA. 4.97 K/9 to 4.62 BB/9, 5.86 FIP, 6.16 xFIP, 5.81 SIERA.
  12. Minaya's peripherals are looking really quite nice through 25 IP. 11.72 K/9 to 3.55 BB/9.
  13. Calling it early but nowhere near a big a fan of Skoug as many were/are here. Way too many strikeouts.
  14. Rutherford single, Burger dinger Jimenez double
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 09:42 AM) Think of it this way, if the White Sox were in contention, and they traded for Miguel Gonzalez, or Derek Holland or Mike Pelfrey or Tyler Clippard and gave up anything better than Courtney Hawkins, how pissed would you be? And how much would you question the White Sox braintrust sanity thinking these were guys that could get them over the top? Yup. Is there any contender with a worse no.5 starter than Gonzalez/Holland/Pelfrey?
  16. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 09:08 AM) Shouldn't it be Mandick in the quotes since Mendick is the last name ? Mendick is for some reason the name he is referred to in the media, but his proper last name is Dickman
  17. Really starting to get excited about him now. Hitting .237/.356/.395 with Birmingham with 7 walks, 6 strikeouts and a lowish BABIP. Well above league-average line in a tough league to hit in. Here's everything Carson Cistulli has written about him in Fangraphs' Top 5 Fringe Prospects:
  18. QUOTE (beautox @ Jul 30, 2017 -> 08:09 PM) yes, its a big reason i think they release putnam, hes a super two and has two more years of ARB left. no
  19. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 11:27 PM) I find this funny considering your love for fringe prospects. Name one prospect I've hyped that has less of a chance of producing positive major-league WAR than Courtney Hawkins.
  20. Are we really even mentioning the majors for Hawkins because he's gone 4 weeks hitting .256/.320/.412, bringing his overall line to a whopping .185/.239/.327? Dude is dead as a prospect.
  21. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 05:07 AM) I'd expect a step backwards offensively unless he drastically changes his approach. His BB and K% were horrendous and he didn't hit the ball hard enough to make up for this, he got pretty lucky. I'll go .267/.299/.395. Yikes, who would have thought this would be hella optimistic. .242/.265/.362.
  22. That's the second time Moncada swung at a pitch way outside and then take the next pitch on the inside corner for a (what should have been) strikeout. Good to see least he did take ball 4 in the end.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 08:59 PM) Omar, frame the ball Seriously, I could be talked into him as a backup despite his complete lack of power, but not with his framing how it has been (ranks 77th of 84 catchers this year).
