Only played 57 games, hit .213, 11 RBI all of last year. He was certainly part of the reason we weren't any good, even if his health was the major factor. We shouldn't have thought we could rely on him to stay healthy, but under 60 games is bad.
Batting average and RBI don't really matter. It wasn't good that he couldn't stay healthy but that doesn't mean he was garbage.

Is Swarzak the Albers of 2016? Hard to believe this is all for real after what happened last year.
No. Albers had bad peripherals. Swarzak has great ones, after really good ones last year and the year before.

I will keep saying it but I saw him in spring and he didn't even look like he'd have much success in AAA. Was sitting 89-91 with a flat breaking ball and a change that didn't look that much different from his fastball.
At least he defends the position I guess!
7.9 K/9 v 5.2 BB/9 at AA as a 25 year-old. MiLB career 6.4 K/9 v 2.9 BB/9. Good grounder rate but nothing else that would indicate major-league success. Waste of time.

2 more homers for Eric Thames. Incredible.
Sort of project the Sox should be after. Brewers have done an exceptional rebuild.
Wladimir Balentien could be the same sort of thing. Dude looked incredible at the WBC.

And now...it begins....the major drop into the Seth Beer sweepstakes.
One thing I will say that surprises me is the attendance figures for some of these home games. Obviously a lot of Sox fans understand and approve of the rebuild. Either that or the Sox are really padding the figures.
Regarding Putnam...he's the same as Petricka and Tilson...can't stay healthy. Meaning they aren't worth anything even in a trade for a low A ball player.
Not that they are trying to get hurt...some guys are just unlucky.
Mark
I'd quite happily give up a low-A player that isn't worth anything to trade for Zach Putnam if I'm a playoff team. I think you'll be quite surprised at the return for him. He's day-to-day. Relax.
Colton Turner (the return from the Blue Jays for Dioner Navarro) has been good early for Birmingham. 2.0 IP, 0H, 0BB, 3K tonight. 15K, 3BB in 10 IP on the year.
