Danks averaging 88 mph on his fastball this year, compared to 89.3 last year. I guess any hope of it increasing the further he gets away from the surgery is gone. (He has at least lowered the velo on his changeup too)

Sox give money to Toronto, get humans in return
Feeky Magee replied to LDF's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Well that was disappointing after reading that headline -
QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 11, 2014 -> 02:46 PM) 49? 49th pick of the draft
-
QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 11, 2014 -> 01:49 PM) it is what it is. I also add Davidson / Reed trade ranks there. however to see a full value we need to wait for Davidson make it to the majors. The Davidson trade was good on paper. And Addison Reed is currently rocking a cool -0.4 fWAR. Albeit mainly because of an enormous home run rate.
-
It was absolutely the weakest trade of Hahn's tenure so far, both on paper and in terms of result. I think he could have got more if he traded him before the deadline, but obviously it wasn't that much more if he didn't pull the trigger. I think the biggest fault lies with the league for underrating Rios.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 11, 2014 -> 11:50 AM) You should add ADA's fangraphs page to your bookmarks. It would probably save you a lot of time
-
Another interesting thing given their respected torrid/horrendous hitting starts, Dayan Viciedo is at -0.1 fWAR and De Aza -0.2. (baseball reference has Viciedo at -0.4 and De Aza at -0.2 but Fangraphs is better)

Sean Reid-Foley signed for slot at 49. I had thought part of the reason we went for Adams over Reid-Foley was that Reid-Foley was looking for overslot, but no. Reid-Foley was ranked higher across the board, some places significantly, others just a few places.

Moises Sierra's wRC+ is 13. That's 311th of 312 players with more than 90 plate appearances this year. Jordan Danks had a wRC+ of 14 in 48 PA. De Aza has had by far the worst hitting stretch of his career and his wRC+ is 60.

Anderson 3-7 today, continues to rake

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 10, 2014 -> 09:06 PM) Olacio is with the Dash. This was Robinson Leyer on Kanny. Two Leyers? Ffs. Hope we don't sign Montes de Oca and the DSL Montas never makes the States or I'm boned. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 10, 2014 -> 09:16 PM) Anderson's up over .300 now. Two more K's for Hawkins, at .249 at the moment. And yet Hawkins actually has a higher OBP than Anderson.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 10, 2014 -> 08:03 PM) Leyer having a nice outing so far 4IP 2H 0BB 6K Olacio pitched the first 3

I'd urge caution on anyone expecting Nieto to be much better, he's hitting worse than Flowers with a higher BABIP and has a BB:K ratio of nearly 1:18. To be expected coming from high-A of course, but don't expect much out of him if his game time increases.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 10:31 PM) Flowers is at a 38% K rate. I wanna see more of Nieto to be honest. 11 for his last 70 with 32 strikeouts.
-
Small sample size but since his demotion Marcus Semien has 9 walks and 2 strikeouts. Definitely showing the type of BB:K ratio that made him such a big prospect at AA, fell last year in AAA and plummeted in the majors.

Hector Noesi 2 years and 40 outings without a win... now 2 in-a-row
-
Eaton is the most inconsistent arm in baseball. It either short hops about 5 feet away or is an absolute cannon.
-
Dammit Alejandro, doesn't he know I'm arguing on the internet about his defence?

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 10:05 PM) How the hell do they even keep stats on base running? http://www.fangraphs.com/library/offense/ubr/ http://www.fangraphs.com/library/offense/wsb/

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 10:08 PM) What about the Twins duo? Sano and Buxton I love Buxton, I'd have him number 2, but Bryant is insane. He's better enough than Buxton with the bat to make up for Buxton's advantage in other areas.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 10:02 PM) Bryant is the one that I think for sure you can count on being good in the majors. I'm not a fan of Soler or Baez. Yup. Bryant is absolute money for me. I think he's the best prospect in all of baseball. I like Baez, but he's way less a sure thing to me than Bryant.
-
QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 10:00 PM) De Aza might be the worst base runner I've ever seen. He's basically a faster Carlos Lee in the field and on the paths. He's f***ing atrocious. Stop listening to any stat that says otherwise and, for the love of God, don't use them in an argument. It really is incredible that for someone who might be the worst baserunner in your lifetime, two separate organisations (Fangraphs and baseball reference) who have separately developed statistics to judge baserunning by both have graded him positively with the Sox. Like I get that they mightn't be perfect, but it's amazing they are so bad that they rate the single worst baserunner out of thousands of baserunners as a good baserunner. That's no run-of-the-mill rounding error there, that's a cataclysmic failing of the system. What has made them so utterly woefully wrong? Do they both give positive marks for getting picked off?
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 09:56 PM) It must have been absolute hell for Pirates fans watching him destroy AAA just waiting for him to get the call. Looking forward to seeing him play. Side note, his wRC+ at AAA was 163. Kris Bryant hasn't had one below 209 at any of his stops, and currently at AA he's at 226. That's how good Bryant is.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 09:46 PM) I couldn't tell you if Hunter is good or bad defensively anymore. I thought he was always overrated though. Based at where he was at in his peak and the expected regression, I'd guess that he's pretty poor at this point in his career. Aren't you the same guy that thought ADA was a good defender and a good base runner? De Aza graded positively as a baserunner in every year with the Sox. He's basically a break-even base stealer, and with his above-average speed, the number of times he goes from first to third etc. has outweighed the number of times he gets picked off at first or whatever, although the latter tends to stick in the memory more. He's graded positively every year on defence bar last year in CF, where he graded slightly negatively. I would say that via the eye test he was a reasonable centre-fielder for the most part, and is now a little above average LF. The problem with Alejandro is when he makes a mistake, it tends to be of the "HOLY SH*T DID HE JUST F*CKING DO THAT" variety. They stick in the memory and to me have resulted in some people underestimating his overall value. And yeah, Torii Hunter has been the worst defensive player in baseball this season. I can tell you that without having seen him in the stadium.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 09:42 PM) So he's not close. Can he get there by the All-Star break? He'll need 301 by then. 32 games after today. He'll probably have 172 after today. Needs 129 in 32 games, almost exactly 4 per game.
