  1. Yeah I don't know if the Sox are going to want to wait until June to sign a SP, if in fact that's when FG will be healthy. And obviously there's questions about Freddy's arm and his velocity, so I think there's just too many question marks here for something to happen but I could be wrong. I think it's more likely we acquire Ervin Santana in a Konerko deal than it is we sign FG, but that's just me. But if he was going to perform, it would probably be a good situation for him here, where he's fairly comfortable.
  2. $9.1M this season I think. That's a sizeable cap saving. And Orlando finally beat Detroit, YAY!!!
  3. I would have liked to have signed Jason Jennings for the rotation, but obviously KW has confidence in the current rotation. Whether that's a good thing, I don't know. I'd still like to offer Konerko + Crede + MacDougal for Figgins, Willits, Kendrick, Speier and Santana. Whether I'm asking for too much, well maybe, but I think something like that would really solidify key areas (although we lose some power in Kong).
  4. Well we're down a total of 5% now, and I think we just broke through a major support line. It's getting pretty ugly down here, worse day we've had in around 4-5 months.
  5. Our market is down 3% this morning. Dropped from 6800 in late October/November to 5450 now. I think we've officially hit a Bear Market. Predictions of hitting 5000 are coming in.
  6. Yeah the Tomko logic when comparing this contract is a pretty good one. Unfortunately that's just where the market is right now, and certain FA's are cashing in, and then some have overplayed their hand e.g Lohse and Eckstein.
  7. Are you more likely to vote for a Christian over a Mormon though, if the 2 candidates are basically the same? Obviously I think most people would, hence why it's an issue.
  8. Jim Courier was on morning radio down here (he's commentating for the Aussie Open) and said even though he'll usually vote democrat, he thought Romney was the best qualified for the position because of his previous work as a C.E.O, and he also said he probably wouldn't get the job because of his religion, and he said that religion and politics shouldn't mix, but then he brought up how Bush uses god in his speeches etc. Thoughts?
  9. Ya Smith's logic was basically Noah is the young Wallace now, and the Lakers need a big with Bynum out (but I think they're just going to sign Webber). Radmanovic is overpaid, but at least he can shoot the 3 I guess, not much else though.
  10. Sam Smith suggested Ben Wallace to L.A for Kwame Brown and Radmanovic. Would Bulls fans be interested in that? Could then offer Brown + Noc + Gordon for Gasol and Navarro maybe?
  11. Don't know if I'd call Dotel and Linebrink the 2 best relievers in the FA market (I think the Japanese guys could outperform then at least this season), but we've certainly upgraded nonetheless. And really after the debacle of last season we had to. This pen cost us at least 5-10 games in 2007. Fixing that, improving the offense should get this team back over .500 IMHO. It's the back end of the rotation that will determine where this team ultimately ends up though. On Dotel, obviously if he can stay healthy he'll probably be worth it. But it's a big IF, so hopefully they've done their homework. But the guy had good FIP numbers last season, so I'm probably more confident in him than Linebrink actually.
  12. Yeah I felt so sorry for Tipsaravic. I've never seen anyone play so good against Roger before on hard courts and lose. He deserved way better. The Hewitt - Baghdatis match didn't finish until 4:30AM. That's insane.
  13. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 21, 2008 -> 11:38 AM) I think that Pax almost will have to let him go unless this season turns dramatically around. Either that or no one offers him jack squat and he takes the 1 year tender to try to put up some non-terrible numbers. Deep down, I'm kind of hoping we'll be able to package him with our pick and maybe pick up a player or move up in the draft. If Gordon ever wants to be a starter, he'll need to play alongisde a big PG, a Chauncey Billups or a Deron Williams for example. Otherwise he'll probably be stuck what he's doing now because of his defense. Utah would be a good situation for him actually, I wonder if the Bulls would be interested in Kirilenko.
  14. Giants won 3 playoff games on the road. You have to tip your hat to them. They're not explosive, and they don't blow teams out, but they hang tough, behind a solid running game and a good defense. And no mistakes from Eli either.
  15. WOW. Farve must be feelin good right now.
  16. QUOTE(shipps @ Jan 21, 2008 -> 12:52 AM) Then you want Duhons role to be diminished to give Thabo more time?Duhon has played pretty well and I have never been a fan of his but he looks like a professional out there. You cannot play him and Hinrich in the same backcourt together however. They'll get abused by bigger guards and wear down over a season (just look at Hinrich this season, the effect of season's past). It's kind of like Ellis and Davis in Golden State. It's also why I think Gordon probably bolts at the end of the season.
  17. Sassone in his latest article made a good point also, after Khabibulin, do the Hawks have a goalie who is going to take them to a Stanley Cup? If they can't sign a Huet in FA, then probably not. I don't think Crawford is probably going to be the guy. I wouldn't mind targeting Al Montoya from the Rangers, who's stuck behind Lundqvist.
  18. Would anyone take any of Tampa Bay's big contracts (or the Kuba + pick deal) for Khabibulin?
  19. Amazing to think we're 3rd last in the West, and we're only 5 points behind Minny who are 6th. It's such a tight race, and you know this team can perform if they stay healthy. Lalime's play over the past 4 games could be the difference in us just making the playoffs if we can get everyone back healthy, but obviously that's a big if.
  20. QUOTE(Brian @ Jan 18, 2008 -> 03:45 PM) Maria Sharapova is the goods in HD. The girl she is playing right now is kind of a butterface. Is that mean? Sorry. That was probably Elena Vesnina. Federer almost lost today. 5 set match, over 4 hours. Now Hewitt and Baghdatis have just finished the 2nd set, 1 set each, and it's 1:22AM.

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jan 19, 2008 -> 04:24 AM) Saw Juno last night....I really enjoyed it. I share some other's opinions on the dialogue...Gilmore Girls is a perfect reference. I only saw that show a couple times, but Juno's lingo has the same vibe. What's different is she also ads in some perfect teenage dialogue and teenage reactions/antics to make it all work together. One thing though I despise the Gilmore Girls and yet I loved this movie, so I find that quite ironic. Ellen Page's performance stole the show. She's set for big things in the future no doubt. The 1st scene were she meets Garner/Bateman was hilarious with the dialogue I thought.
  22. I think Wasserman starts the season with us, but if we don't trade anyone and sign Dotel, then I guess it's plausible. I just hope he doesn't wear down like Pat Neshek did for the Twins last season. But that pen certainly looks better than last season. And the Sox could even try to upgrade even more by picking up a Justin Speier in a Konerko deal.
  23. I think as well, if we're out of contention, he's always a guy in demand at the deadline, so you would probably get something decent for him e.g look at what the Rangers got for Eric Gagne. Of course this is if we actually sign him.
  24. Dotel also had FIP's of 3.99 in Kansas City and 2.23 for the Braves, so he had a pretty decent 2007. If we're going to not use him as a closer, I think we'll probably have to overpay (in salary and length of a deal) to get him, which it looks like we're willing to do.
  25. I also saw this news as well; Suppose it would put the likes of Perrault on really thin ice if he made it back.
