QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Jan 11, 2008 -> 05:35 AM) From Yahoo.... He logged 16 mins vs Portland so maybe that could mean something. The game was a blowout though. Speaking of which, how good are Portland going to be with Greg Oden back next season. The 1 thing they really need is a dominant big, and Oden could be that guy. And getting Aldridge amd Brandon Roy at #4 and #6, while the Bulls took Tyrus Thomas at #2, ugh, that can't be a good stat for Bulls fans. They've really wasted a lot of top 5 picks over the past 6-8 years (the Bulls that is). Curry, Chandler, Williams and now Thomas it looks like.

2007-2008 NHL Catch All Thread
Good moves by DT lately cutting the dead weight in Samsonov and Johansson, and starting to lock up the core players in Sharp and Sopel. I assume we have some salary cap space now to make an acquisition (Forsberg very unlikely, last I heard he was thinking Philly if he's coming back, but here's hoping) if we have to.

Maybe it's time to tank and keep developing the youngsters and to try and get a top 5 pick again. And I know people won't like me saying that, but for the long - term it could be what the franchise needs. I think at least people can see we're headed on the right path, but we just don't have to bodies and talent to contend right now. I don't know how good this year's draft is though.

Someone will take a shot at him, I've got no doubt about that. All I ask is that somebody asks about the state of our farm system and scouting, whether we are going to draft the BEST player at #8 (not Jordan Danks) in the draft, and whether we are going to continue our push into Latin America.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 05:35 AM) Maybe I'm still crazy, but I think that between Egbert, Broadway, and Sisco, I'm betting we'll feel we have 1 more MLB ready starter by the end of this year who'll wind up being better than we think when he does come up. I'm going to come out of left field and say out of those 3, Sisco could be the guy. He had decent stats down at Charlotte, and although there weren't great reports about how he was doing down there, I think he still probably has the best stuff out of the 3. Just needs to keep working on his off - speed stuff and his control obviously.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 05:28 AM) Best healthcare system in the world! Sorry. Had to. Hope things turn soon. Yes it really is. Although Australia's actually not that much better. It is, but not by as much as you would think.

New Hampshire Primary Thread
So does anyone think her breaking down a little yesterday actually helped her win this primary? I mean just going on the polls and the talk on here, you would have thought Obama was about a 75% favorite going into tonight, with the momentum all on his side from Iowa. I guess the 2 idiots who suggested for her to "iron their shirts" didn't really do Obama a favor either.

Losing to the Knicks at home should be a fireable offense. Seriously.

What's Super Tuesday Balta (for the uneducated such as myself).

So Clinton's back as the favorite now I presume. What does Obama have to do to win the nomination now? Win most of the upcoming major primaries I assume.

New Hampshire Primary Thread
Wow on Clinton. I don't think many people saw it being THIS close. She's really fighting back here.

That Obama PDF file makes for some interesting reading. Does anyone know where the Clinton one where (and maybe some of the other candidates for both sides?)

Actually I'm worried Snyder's really going to go after Jason Garrett, just to screw the Cowboys. That's if the Ravens don't get him first. Losing Ireland, Sparano and Garrett in 1 off-season, that would majorly hurt the Cowboys big time.

Official NFL Thread
Yeah a bit sad about Gibbs, although I shouldn't be saying that as a Cowboys fan. Do they go with Gregg Williams or Al Saunders, or does Snyder give big money to Bill Cowher?

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jan 9, 2008 -> 08:52 AM) So they speak French here in Montreal -- weeee! They're probably going to get killed tonight, but I'm excited -- it's my first time seeing the Hawks on the road, and what a venue to see 'em at. Place will be packed tonight. Keith if Huet's playing tonight, have a look at his game for me. We were discussing him a few days ago as the best FA goaltender on the market this off-season.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jan 9, 2008 -> 06:26 AM) I'd say we got lucky on that one... hopefully he performs well over there, and we're rid a contract. What's the deal with that right now? Have Carolina taken over the rest of the contract, or can they dump him back on waivers before a certain deadline so they're not liable for the contract?

That was a quick backflip there Reddy. What's changed in 18 hours or so?

QUOTE(bigruss22 @ Jan 8, 2008 -> 02:24 PM) WOW! I just played it last week for the first time in what seemed forever. I didnt do very well as this idiot decided to try to get australia from one country there against my two, and he just stacked all his guys there. So in a 6 player game, he wiped both of us out almost immediately, atleast I last a turn longer than him. That game is still magnificent. He's not an idiot, he's a very smart man.

Konerko to the Angels?
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jan 8, 2008 -> 04:16 PM) I'm not sure there's a player on the Sox right now that would get Jones away from Seattle, let alone with the addition of Clement. The absolute only reason I hate hypothetical trade ideas is because of how little some people understand value from both sides. Otherwise, they are pretty fun to look at. Buehrle. LHP's are just perfect for Safeco Field. That's why Bill Bavasi overpaid for Jarrod Washburn in FA and for Ramirez from Atlanta in a trade. It'd allow them to move Morrow back into the pen for at least 1 more season.

If the sox add a solid SP.....
When's Jason Jennings slated to be starting to pitch next season?

Konerko to the Angels?
I think it could maybe prolong JD's career for an extra season or 2, if he could prove he could handle 1B adequetely enough. To me this lineup; CF - Figgins / Willits SS - Cabrera LF - Swisher DH - Thome 1B - Dye 3B - Fields C - Pierzynski RF - Quentin 2B - Richar That above looks a lot better than what we put out there last season. Hitters 3 to 8 could all hit over 15HR's. Richar could put up an OPS around the .750 mark, maybe even more. Cabrera should be an excellent #2 hitter for us, while obviously Willits or Figgins is a big upgrade in the leadoff spot. There's also been a slight argument about either getting Saunders or Santana. Obviously Saunders has put up better numbers so far recently, but I think Santana has the better stuff and you've got more to work with there. Most of his issues are probably mental more than anything.

On that number of posts Soxy, I think that's what Southsider wants to make before he leaves us.

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jan 8, 2008 -> 08:00 AM) I guess I'll thank this board for me meeting a couple of nutcase posters here, one with "iconic" status Hopefully when Andrew (DBAH0) comes to the U.S., I'll buy him a drink and he can tell me how this Micah guy we have is so great. Get the video tape Willie, Katy 4 eva. Remember to watch your Steff and keep Nuke-ing Cleveland. Some crazy memories I tell ya. Goal for 2008, get Dougly laid. I knew you would never live that down. I'm a little suprised you didn't bring up Matt Nachreiner though.

Konerko to the Angels?
Dye moving to 1B sounds like a good idea, would he agree to it though? Because a Swisher - Figgins / Willits - Quentin OF, would easily be one of the best in the majors defensively.

White Sox Acquire Nick Swisher from Athletics
Or Sweeney could become a Rusty Greer type of hitter (.300 with 15-20HR's a season), Gio becomes a #2 starter, and DLS becomes an ace by developing his change-up in the next season or 2 in the minors. It's impossible to project what these young guys are going to do. Who knew that after Brian Anderson hit over .300 in 2005 at Charlotte, he would hit close to .200 for the White Sox in 2006? Who knew that Josh Fields would hit over 20 HR's in 2007 in the majors?
