  1. The Sox seem to be interested in Masset as a bullpen piece. He's been a closer in the Mexican Winter League and has an ERA of about 2.25 with about 12 saves last time I checked. So he's a converted starter, and I assume the Sox would use him out of the pen if they acquired him. Kind of like another Bobby Jenks situation. A little piece on Masset; And also here's a really, really good article about Hurley vs. Danks;
  2. And the Magic keep on rolling. Some stat lines tonight; Dwight Howard - 24 points, 21 rebounds. Darko Milicic - 14 points, 8 boards, 4 blocks, 3 assists, 2 steals. And with Cleveland losing, we're going to be tied on top of the East. Nice achievement considering where this franchise has been over the past 5 years.
  3. Hurley, Danks and Massett for Garland and Anderson is really the deal I want KW to be pushing for here. Both Hurley and Danks will be able to step in for 2008 I would have thought, and will be under our control for 6 seasons. Broadway will also be ready for 2008 as well I would have thought, so that's 3 potential starters who can jump up from the minors. And say for example if Buehrle, Garcia and Dye all left as free agents, we would get something like 6 draft picks wouldn't we (because I assume they would all be type A FA's)? But that's not to say I don't want them all to leave. And that's why Texas is probably going to trade a couple of pitching spects. They'll get draft picks for Carlos Lee and Matthews Jr. leaving in FA.
  4. The thing is, if Anderson is included in this deal, are we going to go out and try to sign say a J.D Drew, trade for a Chone Figgins, or are we going to give the reins to Ryan Sweeney for 2007?
  5. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 19, 2006 -> 09:12 AM) If you want two prospects (and I do) you take Danks and Hurley. Hurley looks like he might be 6 months away from being one of the top pitching prospects in baseball, and better than Danks. I'd take Hurley in the deal instead of including Otsuka. You can always go out and sign Justin Speier in the FA market instead.
  6. All depends on the return. You'd expect to get more for Javy because he's signed for longer, and I would expect if Javy stayed with the Sox that he would continually improve under Coop and become more consistent. If trading a Javy gets you a Hurley or Pelfrey, by all means do that deal. I'd put Danks just in a lower tier (although I still love him as a prospect, because he offers you something that we don't have, a potential dominant lefty starter) below those 2. Out of the 2 scenarios there Beck, the 1st one certainly sounds more beneficial for us.
  7. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 06:21 PM) The schedule is brutal, but I thought they'd be 5-4 right now. I figured they'd beat Sac Town and Houston, but they didn't (although should have). Maybe this is just another 42-40, 6 or 7 seed playoff team, boo. Oh, and Utah is 8-1 and Deron had 27 and 8 tonight. MVP!! MVP!!! Also, Miami might be in trouble. 3-5 isn't good, Shaq out 4 to 6 weeks minimum isn't good, and losing at home by 24 to the Knicks is a prime sign that they are in for a bad stretch. Deron was in foul trouble early on as well. Most improved player in the NBA right now. And I really think Orlando has a chance at taking the Southeast Division as well. Miami look very lethargic at the moment. As for the Bulls, they're just having problems scoring, and when they can't hold teams to say under 90 points defensively, they're going to struggle to win.
  8. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 03:32 PM) Have you seen Boozer? Anyways...I took Dwight in another league, but I only saw him when he dominated the Bulls. Why in the world doesn't he take many, many, many more shots??? And what's up with all those TOs? Boozer can't play D and gets in Sloan's doghouse quite often. He's been mentioned in trade rumors ever since he got to Utah although that's quieted down a bit lately. As for Dwight, so many teams are double teaming him after the Chicago game, and we're having trouble getting the ball to him down low because of this, hence the less shots and more TO's. He'll work through it though.
  9. So not exactly a great start to the season for the Bulls is it? 3-6 now, and the Knicks actually have a better record now at 4-6 after their win over a Shaqless Miami today. As for Orlando things are going very nicely right now (knock on wood). 6-3 and our depth at the guard position is really amazing right now, as Bogans only gets about 5 mins a game, and the likes of Diener and Redick don't get any gametime which pretty much wouldn't be the case on any other NBA team.
  10. On that Texas scenario, would people prefer trying to get Eric Hurley included instead of Otsuka, and then we try to sign Justin Speier in FA? Kill 2 birds with 1 stone basically there. I like the way we're heading here though.
  11. With Cabrera's finish to the season, I don't think he'll be made available. KW's probably asked for Bedard, but the O's would be pretty foolish to move him unless they got a real good return. But then again, they are the Orioles.
  12. I really think something is going to get done with either the Angels, Mets or Rangers TODAY. And I would take Santana for Garcia, straight up. Santana would still be under our control for another 4 seasons, has great stuff, and just needs to develop more consistency to become a frontline starting pitching. But I wonder if the Sox could try to get Maicer Izturis or even Chone Figgins off the Angels hands here.
  13. Jon's 1st 2 months of the 06 season were terrible FWIW IIRC.
  14. QUOTE(shoota @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 02:40 PM) Perhaps I have a severely selfish outlook, but I hate trades in which quality players depart. KW needs to acquire phenomenal players without giving up anything of value. I only approve lopsided trades favoring the Sox, trading for players with a poor history who immediately turn into All-Stars once on the Sox, drafting MVPs and free agent signings. I frown on mistakes, so perfection is desired. And I'm sure the fans of every other ballclub would love this too, as would the general managers of each team who would love to pull trades like this. But, in order to get something, you have to give up something.
  15. QUOTE(R.Sweeney @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 12:56 PM) Kw is in a real tough situation .He trying to put the winning pieces together and take care of the future all in the same off-season . Im all for getting pitchers for our future ,especially considering the only pitcher we have that could be ready for 08 is Broadway .KMc is looking good so far and moving through the sytem at about the same pace that Broadway has been moving but is at least prob. 2 yrs away. I just hate to see Garland go thats all . To get 2 possible top 3 rotation SP's and a future SS provided he can improve with the bat (Arias is pretty speedy and good defensively IIRC as well) I think is a deal you would just have to take if it was on offer. Remember for Vazquez we gave up a future CF and a injury prone SP who got traded by the D-Backs a few months later. EDIT: Oh and forget Vizcaino And where's Flash to back me up on this?
  16. I'm thinking it looks like a Wayne Krivsky signing. Well at least that's what I'm hoping, and that Kenny hasn't lost his touch.
  17. QUOTE(R.Sweeney @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 12:22 PM) I see what your saying ,I guess I should have worded it differently .If these guys are highly regarded prospects why would you trade them ?I understand that Texass wants to win for 07 but Garland cant pitch for them every day either . I forgot that a few of those guys were in AA last year .I will say that of the guys I mentioned Danks does look like a hell of a prospect . I think he would have to be a part of any deal for one of our starters . I just cant understand why KW would consider this with 3 08 FA starters on our staff .I understand that because of Garlands youth and contract he has more value but I think in order to do this I would have to have Danks,Young and maybe another prospect to make that deal happen . Well in Texas's situation, they will probably lose Vince Padilla in FA, along with Kip Wells and Adam Eaton. So that's a few SP that they are likely gonna hav to replace. Hence why they are thinking of trading some of their prospects to get a proven starter, because it's hard to get one for fair market value in FA because of the demand for it. You have to remember, the reason we would trade for young SP prospects is because we would want them to step in for 2008 if a Buehrle or Garcia bolted. Hurley and Danks should both be ready to contribute for 2008 along with Lance Broadway. And then you could trade a 2nd starter like Vazquez to the Mets for a package around Pelfrey, and try to sign a SP in FA like Batista on an inflated short - term deal.
  18. If you could get Hurley, Danks and Arias for Garland, I would probably do that. I'm a JG backer, but there's always the question with his peripherals, in terms he doesn't strike out a lot of hitters, and his control really needs to spot on to succeed so those 1st pitches don't miss the plate. Don't think you'd get the same type of package for Garcia as you would for Garland. The reason Texas hasn't tried them yet Sweeney, is because Hurley just made it to AA at the end of this season, Danks had his 1st season in AAA IIRC, and they have a lot of fringe starters types such as Robinson Tejada.
  19. QUOTE(Reddy @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 10:18 AM) well we got jenks from the angels... but otherwise i agree with you He was a mess when we acquired him though. We did a great job at sticking him in AA B-Ham as a closer, getting him to work on his control to help him become the pitcher he is today.
  20. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 10:12 AM) Thats the problem,we dont develop very well. Well we've had players like Crede, Garland, Jenks etc. come through and become important parts of our ballclub. And don't forget at this time last season, our system was quite good with the likes of Gio Gonzalez and Chris Young in there.
  21. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 10:04 AM) this makes me feel like we are rebuilding..yikes. I'd call it securing our position to compete in the division for the next 5 -10 years. We're not always going to be able to sign premium FA's, so we still have to develop our own talent.
  22. How would people feel about Garland for Hurley, Danks and Arias?
