Sheffield for Freddy?
Some questions to be asked from this; Who's going to leadoff for you if you acquire Sheffield? Does that mean you have to sign a Pierre or Roberts to play CF. That means that there's no spot open for both Anderson and Sweeney, something which I'm not a fan of. Will Sheffield behave without a new contract? Very doubtful. And considering how KW wants to acquire "clubhouse" guys, it's not a good fit. Why trade Freddy for a power hitting OF, when you could get good young starting pitching (which is probably one of our main needs right now) in return for him?

Little blurb from the Trib on CNNSI
QUOTE(beck72 @ Oct 31, 2006 -> 09:45 PM) Blalock has been mentioned as being on the trading block. But who would replace him at 3b? If they don't have anyone internal, Fields would have to look good to them. I'm sure Tex. could get some pitching for Blalock Maybe the Cubs could be interested in trading for Hank especially if Ramirez does bolt during FA (which is looking likely). So Fields could certainly be a fit there.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Oct 31, 2006 -> 05:08 PM) DB, you can keep offering Contreras, but it's not going to happen. He has a full no-trade clause in '07. As a SS, Young makes a good 2B. I thought it was this season? Oh well, shows how much I've been following the Sox lately if you're right. Sub in another starter like Freddy then.

Young and Danks please. Offer them Contreras, Josh Fields (they can move Hank Blalock in another deal for more pitching), and Uribe. Personally I really think, if there's a team we're going to trade with this off-season, it'll be Texas. Jon Daniels has shown he's a deal-maker, and they need an improvement in pitching, and that's something we can offer them.

Catch-All Anything Thread
Ugh, this time of year is becoming a real bogey period for me; Last year when the White Sox won the World Series I caught Chicken Pox, which forced me to miss my 1st exam (which I had to re-do in Feb this year). Now 2 days out from my 1st, I've contracted a real bad cold. Maybe next year I should just put myself into quarantine somewhere the week before.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 30, 2006 -> 03:49 PM) Your 4-3 is 6-2 if Romo were starting all year......but at least he is now. I fail to see where you got the extra game from. But yes, I think 10 wins is certainly achieveable for us. We have to win in Washington though next week though, and then we've got the majority of our final games at home, so this is a real important stretch for us now. And good to see the offensive line (Adams and Colombo) actually did a pretty decent job tonight. Of course it looks much better when Romo can actually step up and evade the rush, unlike Frankenstein who'll just stand there and take the sack or throw an interception.

Thank god we made the change to Romo. HUGE win tonight, and suddenly our season is back on track.

Broadway making his way to the majors
QUOTE(SoxAce @ Oct 28, 2006 -> 08:52 AM) IMO, Garza is going to surprise some people next season. His stuff is just too good. I can just see him overacheiving a bit as well. Agreed. He looked quite good at some of his starts towards the end of the season, and you know he's only going to get better with experience at the major league level. They'll need to Carlos Silva to rebound though, especially if Liriano misses the majority of the season with Radke also going.

MP3 player thread
I got the Creative Zen Vision M 30GB for my B-Day about a month back, costs around $450 down here. It plays videos as well as music so I got all my episodes of Family Guy, The Office etc. on there. It has longer battery life than the I-Pod equivalent so that's a plus, and it comes in green.

LOST! thread
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 27, 2006 -> 10:07 PM) Damn something else just hit me. There might not be a second island. If there is, how did Hurely get from their camp back to the rest of his group? I think Ben really pulled another bigger con on Sawyer. What I'm thinking is that at the end of the season 2 when they were caught they were on the Original Island, and somehow in b/w the seasons they've been transported to the Others Island. That would explain how Hurley made it back anyways.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Oct 27, 2006 -> 05:59 PM) I was hugely disappointed with the new album. I was really excited for it when I heard the single When You Were Young, but the rest of the album is mediocre. Sam's Town is a great song, but beyond that it's very average. I hate how they have these meaningless enterlude/exitludes. Oddly enough DBAH0, Uncle Johnny was probably my least favorite song on the album. To be fair, I don't think it was going to be possible for them to come out with an album that would approach the quality of Hot Fuss. I forgot to mention When You Were Young, which is a good song as well. I think from what I've read on various messageboards it's an album you really need to listen to quite a few times before you start to appreciate it, but if you don't like it, then you're not going to listen to it again are you.

Cora becomes bench coach
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Oct 27, 2006 -> 04:09 PM) I don't think it's a stretch at all. Razor has managed each of the last three seasons (the only 3 I've really paid attention to his teams) with a much more aggressive style than Ozzie. I don't see why the guy who gave practically every player on his club the green light to steal would suddenly be anything but aggressive in his approach as third base coach. Which is probably a major reason why he got the job. Ozzie likes his baserunners to be aggressive, and Shines fits that mould like Joey Cora. Just saying that there's a major lovefest for Shines right now and a major hate for Joey Cora, and it wouldn't suprise me at this time next year people on here are hating on Razor Shines for the same reasons they did with Joey.

Cora becomes bench coach
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Oct 27, 2006 -> 09:34 AM) Ugh, I rather have Razor helping Ozzie make decisions, not free-waving Joey Cora. So if Razor Shines is a free waving 3rd base coach, we're going to turn on him too?

Daisuke Matsuzaka
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 11:51 PM) My response to you is then is this. I know he's a solution to LF and a stud, but is Crawford a leadoff man solution? I know his OBP was solid last year with that high average, but he doesn't walk all that much, has a lousy career OBP, and the small OF at The Cell will turn some doubles and triples at the Trop into outs, lowering the average and OBP. It's a good question. Crawford's a lot more like Grady Sizemore than he is a Scott Podsednik. I think the impressive thing with him this season is that his OBP went up 17 points to .348. Podsednik in 2005 had a .351 OBP. At the Cell you could see that power rise even more, so he could possibly go from hitting 18HR's this season, to say 20-25 next season with around 55 steals, and an OBP around the .340-.345 mark, which would make him a very valuable commodity for us, I came up with the idea of trading John Danks (acquired as part of the Contreras deal) and Josh Fields for him. Whether Tampa would go for that I don't know, but it's an interesting scenario.
