QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 11:10 PM) Well, to cut through your sarcasm... yes. After all, they traded for Lugo. And he is probably 6M cheaper than Furcal. So like I said, if they still see in Lugo what they did when they traded for him, then this deal is a good one for both sides. The Dodgers want to win next year, and they will want starting pitching - which we can give them. If you want to disagree with my idea, that's fine. No need for the sneering. I think it will be quite hard for Ned Colletti to justify giving Julio Lugo a 5 year / 40M deal (which is what he wants, and may get) when he's put up splits of .219/.278/.267 for the Dodgers (albeit it is a very small sample size). If he could spin off Furcal for say Garland though, then there's some justification right there. Or they could let Nomar go, and have Lugo rotate at 1B/2B with Loney and Kent.

It was quite amazing we took 2 out of 3 up there quite frankly, with Minny having a whole lot to play for (and very luckily ending up with the division).

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 03:28 AM) Cameron's not a fa. The Pads have already said they'll pick up his option. Dellucci should be on that list. Yeah I'd go for Dellucci also. Ozuna can just be the platoon partner again vs. LHP.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Oct 1, 2006 -> 11:49 PM) Byrnes isn't Eric Byrnes, career .322 obp is it? Weren't you the guy saying Michael Young can't hit away from Texas and his road obp is .333, so he should not be an option for KW as a lead-off man? Yeah I'd certainly look at other options such as Roberts and Dave Dellucci before Eric Byrnes (who's been hitting in the cleanup spot for the D-Backs hasn't he?)

Dave Roberts as a 1 year stopgap. KW will try for Crawford and be unsuccessful as he's dealt to the Mets for a package including Milledge.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 1, 2006 -> 02:11 AM) WTF, Joaquin Arias? Why the hell do you guys talk about him like he's Brandon Wood? His OBP was under .300 this year IN THE PCL!!!!!! His career minor league OPS is barely over .700. I'd rather hand the starting job over to Pedro Lopez than trade for Arias... He's a 21 year old kid hitting in AAA for the 1st time. Of course he's no Brandon Wood, but how much harder will it be to trade for a Brandon Wood? You don't trade for Arias so he can be the starting SS next season, the Rangers are grooming him to be their starting SS for 2008, and I assume that's what another organization would do if they traded for him. It may not be a great idea if he doesn't improve in AAA next season (which I think he definitely will), but the Sox need to start thinking about a long - term replacement for Uribe if they are going to keep him next season, and he decreases offensively again which he has for the past 3 seasons.

Good to see Rotoworld get it;

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 30, 2006 -> 03:43 PM) Gonzalez hates Uribe. He was a reporter for the Arizona Republic IIRC, so I think he thinks that Alex Cintron could do a better job than what Juan Uribe is currently doing, because he saw Cintron put up his best season back in 02 or 03. And if Alex was better defensively, well there would be your solution, but unfortunately he's not. I know there are some people who think Juan should return next season because he's great defensively and his price-tag isn't too high, and I respect that, but I don't agree with it. He's gone backwards in the 3 seasons since he's been here. To me that's totally unacceptable. In the environment that he's hitting in, he should be putting up the same type of numbers as what he did when he first came here. Whether he's too stubborn to change his approach, use that damn leg kick was which good for him last season, I don't know, but something needs to change. Unfortunately there's really not a guy out there who could replace him. There's no point in getting Alex Gonzalez, unless you trade Uribe before hand in a deal. He's basically the same type of player as Uribe with an OBP below .300. Jimmy Rollins would be nice, but his contract is huge and he'll cost quite a lot in a trade. My best solution would probably be to trade a starter like Contreras for John Danks and Joaquin Arias. You then trade Danks and Fields onto Tampa Bay for Carl Crawford, and Arias takes over for Uribe in 2008, when Uribe's deal finishes. And yes Arias numbers this season weren't pretty. But he's only 21 or 22, and he was hitting in AAA for the 1st time this season. Give him another season there and I'm sure he'll do a much better job, and IIRC, the reports I've heard on him say he's very good defensively. But getting off Uribe now and onto Pods, the signs are there that he won't be there. I just hope if that is the case, that the Sox don't non tender and get at least some type of compensation for him. An N.L team like the Nats (if they lose Soriano) or the Padres (if they lose Roberts, possibly even to us) should have interest in him. But we need a 1 year stop-gap in there, because Ryan Sweeney still isn't ready IMHO, and Josh Fields may not be with the organization next season, so we'll have to fill the void there. QUOTE(rudylaw @ Sep 30, 2006 -> 11:57 PM) I hate hearing all of the talk about trading Garcia. I think that now that he has realized that he also throws a splitter he has been amazing. I think that he is a very valuable part of this team. I would rather see Javy or MB go than Big Freddy. This is the thing. I think Freddy may have possibly saved his job here next season, even though he is still the favorite to go. I doubt the Sox would trade Javy because he's been our joint 2nd best pitcher over the 2nd half, and KW won't want to cut his losses. And MB's value is at it's lowest right now, so I can't see us getting fair value in a trade there. So to me, that leaves 2 options, Garland and Contreras. The only reason I throw up Garland is because if a team wants to overpay for him, by all means do it, and make the deal. I'm a fan of his, but there's always the question whether a guy like him where hitters put the ball into play so much can be successful over the long - term. For Contreras it comes down to his age, and whether that's getting to him along with the various injuries he's suffered.

Well I'm wasted, and I'm in a time-zone before you so beat that.

QUOTE(SnB @ Sep 30, 2006 -> 12:24 AM) i actually had a kid i knew real well freshmen year see me at the bar last night, he's like "i thought you didn't drink?" (i really didn't freshmen year) my response: "yeah, i didn't, then i got bored with life." I ended up dancing with a work colleague's younger sister quite a lot tonight. I think I'm gonna be in a spot of bother when I see him Monday. But yes SnB, your answer is a good one, and one I should use more often.
-
Why is it it's so much easier to dance when you are drunk, and get introduced to girls more often by a girl when you are drunk? (I should go out on Friday nights more often).

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Sep 29, 2006 -> 07:04 AM) Only way we get Crawford is a three way deal that send Freddy or Vaz somewhere like Philly and Philly sends prospects/pitching to Tampa. This is sort of what I was getting it in my 1st post on this subject. If you could trade say Contreras and Uribe to Texas for Danks, Arias and someone else, and then trade Fields and Danks to Tampa Bay for Crawford, that would probably work. Danks has top of the rotation potential, and Fields will be a building block at 3rd base for them. We keep B-Mac, and get a young SS in Arias, which is something we don't have in our system. You could then sign a FA like Gonzalez to a 1 year deal until Arias is ready. Either way, definitely can't see B-Mac getting dealt especially after his performance last night.
-
Remember if you trade Mark Buehrle, next season you will most likely have 5 RHP's in your rotation, and that can't be good when you have the likes of Justin Morneau and Travis Hafner in your division.
-
Oh boy;
-
No and here's my reasoning. B-Mac is much more of a sure thing than Haegar. He's had prior success in the starter's role before at the major league level, while Haegar in his only start hasn't. I would prefer to trade a Contreras or Garcia to say a Texas or San Diego for a deal including John Danks or Cesar Carillo. You could then on-trade either with Josh Fields for Carl Crawford. Tampa Bay gets a starter with #1 potential and a building block at 3rd base for the future. You save about $10M with this deal, which you could then use in FA or re-signing guys like Crede to long - term deals. I think it's very important with the way our payroll is structured to keep a young guy who could be a key contributor for you because he's so cheap. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 10:18 PM) If all it took was McCarthy and another prospect, I do that deal in a second. I think it's imporant to remember fathom we're hardly stocked with quality pitching in the minor leagues. If we keep Buehrle and Garcia and they both leave as FA's the next off-season (assuming both aren't re-signed), that's then 2 holes in the rotation you have to fill, one most likely from FA and the other probably being Lance Broadway (3rd/4th starter at best most likely). But if you trade one of those 2, then that's only 1 guy's spot instead.

Can I just ask if you trade Thome, who do you trade him for, and how are you going to replace his power output in the lineup (and please don't say Ross Gload).

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Sep 23, 2006 -> 11:12 PM) WTF is the US' deal in the Ryder Cup? It's like Olympic basketball. All these guys (the US) win week in and out, and then when it comes to a competition like this, they just get flat out served. Not much depth besides Woods, Mickelson, Furyk and DiMarco perhaps?

QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Sep 23, 2006 -> 08:28 AM) Before you do that, have you noticed anything weird about your computer? Pop ups coming up while not surfing the net? Computer suddenly becoming slow? Anything new you've installed recently? Have you ever had any problems in the past? You can try to do a windows repair before anything and see if that works. Basically 2 months ago my motherboard crashed and I had to replace it with a new one and re-install Windows XP. From time to time I get a few blue screens of death with message such as BAD_POOL_CLEANER and IRL_NOT_EQUAL_OR_LESS (or something like that). I may try to do a Windows Repair although I leave these type of computer repairs to my Dad since he has a better idea with this type of stuff, so I can't remember if we've tried that before or not. I've got a feeling it may have something to do with my Drivers as well, in terms of they need updating.

Since we're discussing Buehrle vs. Vazquez I want so post Javier's splits for every month this season; April - 3.67 ERA May - 3.99 ERA June - 7.50 ERA July - 6.82 ERA August - 3.41 ERA September - 2.86 ERA Now for Mark; April - 2.57 ERA May - 3.18 ERA June - 3.89 ERA July - 11.48 ERA August - 4.34 ERA September - 5.12 ERA Vazquez POST ASB - 4.14 ERA, .235 BAA, 11 HR in 13 GS Buehrle POST ASB - 6.01 ERA, .339 BAA, 18 HR in 13 GS Hence why I'm a little worried about Buehrle right now.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Sep 23, 2006 -> 12:58 AM) then he'd be wrong. a 3.77 era and a 1.40 whip in the NL would equal death in the AL... Well you look at a guy like Javier Vazquez who came over from the NL in 2005; 2005 - 4.42 ERA, 1.25 WHIP 2006 - 4.66 ERA, 1.29 WHIP (Post ASB 4.14 ERA, 1.21 WHIP) The increase hasn't been huge at all there, and Vaz has shown in the 2nd half what he's capable of.
