    Juan Uribe

QUOTE(BearSox @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 09:49 AM) I will be very, very upset to see Uribe in a sox uni next year. Him, podsednik, and Garcia all have to go, no ifs, ands or buts about it. And to the original post, I think gooch needs to move down in the lineup to like no. 8. He is a good hitter and all, but strikes out way too much for the two hole. Sweeney and Rollins would be a pretty sweet way to start of the lineup next year. If you remember with Iguchi during ST they tried moving him down the order so he could drive in more runs, but he just didn't hit well in that spot. I don't know if they would try it again, but if they brought in a new leadoff and / or #2 hitter, then yeah they could try it again I suppose. On Uribe, would you rather a SS with the same defensive ability who could hit for less power, but hit for a higher average, because I think that would fit better into our lineup. We've got enough power hitters already with the likes of Dye, Kong and Thome, and when you have guys like BA, Pods etc who when they go into slumps, the lineup doesn't look as deep.

QUOTE(AssHatSoxFan @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 10:59 PM) who would the angels really take from us to give upa stud like kendrick? as you said uribe's defense has been poor and we all remember the royce clayton era so SS is a definite spot we should look to upgrade this offseason at least for a guy with better plate discipline who isn't so streaky The Joe Crede deal, say Figgins + Kendrick for Crede has been mentioned by a couple of people I think. Personally I don't see that taking place though.
  3. Thought I would start a thread on Juan Uribe. He's been discussed by quite a lot of people over the past couple of months (myself included) the main question being asked is whether he has a place on our team for next season. Now let's 1st of all look at the stats; 2004 - .283/.327/.506 2005 - .252/.301/.412 2006 - .234/.258/.433 As you can see since he's been here, he's become more of a free swinger and his plate discipline has decreased. His Gross Production Average has gone from .273 to .234 to .220. Now for that .200 is lousy and .265 is about average, so he's become a below average hitter for the last 2 seasons. His P/PA has decreased from 3.8 to 3.4 so he's seeing less pitches in the count. But of course he's not here to provide offense, it's too provide quality defence. And even Juan himself would probably admit this season hasn't been his best defensively. So my question is, with his offense decreasing, can you afford to keep Juan Uribe and pay him over $4M next season? Are the Sox wise to make a move for a guy like Rollins who offers more speed, has a +.100 OPS than Uribe and a GPA of .258, despite the fact his contract is not very friendly? Or as someone like Keith has said, would you move someone like Iguchi instead, if he bring something nice in return, and you could get a young stud second baseman like Howie Kendrick?

  5. QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 09:43 PM) This completely ruined my day. While at White Hen getting the morning coffee today there was a woman with I would guess a 4 year old. He wanted one of those little boxes of cereal (the ones that you can pour the milk right in and eat). She said no and gave him a breakfast bar. The poor thing made a disappointed face (didn't even say a word) and the b**** slapped him across the face leaving a hand print. Right there in the middle of the White Hen. I, along with the other 10 or so customer, was stunned. Quietly the White Hen owner called the police. They arrived there just as I was leaving (police station is a block away thankfully). I can't wait to get an update this afternoon on the way home. People suck. Wow. Some people just honestly don't deserve kids. That poor kid is going to be remembering that for a long time.
  6. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 09:07 PM) The WBC is not an annual event. Even better. There was a really good article from FoxSports about a month back about the negative impact the WBC had on pitchers who participated in it. It was really quite a worrying trend to say the least.
  7. Well at least today Freddy Garcia showed he will certainly still have value, especially if teams that acquire him think that he will get his velocity back, and I actually think there's a good chance of that happening. Just don't let him pitch in the World Baseball Classic this time.
  8. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 02:10 PM) I loved sports. I felt I had passion, cause I sucked at basketball, and I sucked hard, yet I still went every damn day. There's different types of passion, I guess. Carry on. Yeah kind of like me. I played basketball and tennis during the week with work. With Basketball, I just cannot shoot well unless it's a layup, but at least in tennis I'm better even if I'm known as "The Lob King". Hope things work out for your knee there GP. Sounds very, very painful.
  9. Great day for us with the White Sox winning, and both Detroit and Minny losing. Hopefully we can 2 out of 3 out of Oakland. Getting 4 out of 6 from this West Coast Trip would be a very good effort with the way both the A's and Angels have been playing lately.
  10. I always told you those Kiwi's were a weird bunch.
  11. QUOTE(Damen @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 08:22 PM) And this season is Ova!!! Or not.
  12. Just a case of how we won these close games last season and got it done it clutch situations, and in the 2nd half of the season we just haven't been doing that. Both Minny and Detroit won today in the later innings, and if we're going to make it, we're really going to have to start to pull those type of wins out. Still taking 2 from 3 from the Angels over there will be a pretty good result if we can pick up the win tomorrow.
  13. About a month back I was having a discussion with shoota who said in no way could Javier Vazquez be compared to Jose Contreras, because Contreras is a MUCH better pitcher (too lazy to find the thread). Back in that thread I said his ERA+ was 95. It's at 98 now, so he's basically pitching the same as last season. So he's still got a ways to go, but over the month he's certainly shown what he's capable of. What I think is the most postive stat for him this season though is this; HR/F 2005 - 18.5% 2006 - 8.9% And considering he's actually giving up MORE flyballs this season than last (40.5% GB% compared to 43.3% last season), that's a big improvement there.
  14. Good job Mark. Ok let's get some offense going here.
  15. Figures that Anderson suddenly has sto start hitting lefties against us. Oh well, we'll get it back.
  16. Thanks for the B-Day Wishes guys. Nice to finally hit 21.
  17. That would probably be Lance's best outing for the year considering some of the opposition as well. Very promising to see indeed.
  18. We're coming folks, we're coming. Jon Garland what more can you say. The offense is clicking again, good to see Paulie have a nice game to break out of his mini slump. Let's take that series tomorrow, and close that gap even further.
  19. Crede's 1st 3 full seasons at the majors; .261/.308/.433 .239/.299/.418 .252/.303/.454 Now BA's 1st full season .231/.302/.365 What do you guys think of the comparison there, especially considering BA's 2nd half to the season?
  20. Jason and Alex, you'll be glad to know the Drunken Aussie has returned for yet another night.
  21. Wanna see some photos of you there Dep.
  22. Well it's nice to see we're in a pretty good mood tonight.
  23. Howard's just crazily good. He's hitting .480/.606/.1.120 this month alone. The Phillies are my pick for the NL Wild Card right now.
