  1. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 08:18 PM) As will the Twins. Which is why I'll continue to set ridiculous demands upon our minor league system. You have Garza/Santana/Liriano on one team, Verlander/Bonderman/Miller on another -- as well as good pitching prospects in the minors of both teams -- success from ours is crucial. I will no shrug my shoulders or simply say, "everyteam would want a (insert pitcher)" We NEED strong starting pitching to compete with these rotations. It's necessary; because as I see it, this current rotation we're throwing out doesn't bode well when matched up with division rivals. Lance Broadway alone won't cut it. Lumsden would have been nice to atleast be given an opportunity. But you know, we gave him to a f***ING TEAM WITHIN OUR DIVISION! Another front line starter will have to emerge if we're realistically going to contend for the unforseeable future. I believe it comes down to that. Even with a high payroll, and a potential rotation of McCarthy/Broadway, does anyone see us signing long-term deals for quality pitchers? In FA probably not. But you know Kenny, he'll make a deal to upgrade our rotation if he can. Broadway can be an innings eater, a #4 - #5 starter type of guy. I assume McCullough will be that as well, when he'll probably start next season at B-Ham. So with B-Mac as well, that's 3 fairly young guys you could see in the rotation over the next say 3 or 4 years. You just need to keep developing it, and find those top notch guys to fill our your rotation.
  2. QUOTE(shipps @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 08:23 PM) Why do I take pleasure in US basketball losing? And I thought I was the only one.
  3. Yikes, even Australia almost beat Greece in the group stages;
  4. QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 06:18 PM) They had a production on how it works and they start at 9:00 AM the day before the game and it is real easy to move all and all. They will also hold the Fiesta Bowl (BCS title game) in Jan 2007. Where bouts are you living in Phoenix ATM BHAM if you don't mind me asking. I spent 3 weeks in Glendale last year and absolutely loved it. Would love to live there one day if I could get the whole visa / job thing sorted outy.
  5. So it looks like the Sox still want a speedy guy at the top of the lineup even if Pods goes. Guess I can probably rule out Dellucci signin with us then. But yes Roberts has had a nice season. Plus his home / away splits are pretty similar, as are his righty / lefty splits. And I echo the Garcia and Pods for Peavy trade offer, but Kevin Towers wouldn't do that. With Kottras gone, they'd most likely want a good prospect as well at least, to help rebuild that system.
  6. Wow, Sky Sports reckons we are going to land Tevez and Maschareno on a 1 year loan each. If this is true, gotta be one of the greatest transfer coup's of all time. http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hlid=4...amp;+MASCHERANO
  7. I've got a cool picture of the stadium mid construction as we're going past on the 101 Freeway (think it's call that, may be wrong). It makes the Glendale Ice Hall look tiny in comparison.
  8. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 05:01 PM) Come on, there's also a reason why Perez has given up seven earned runs in fifty-two appearances. At the very, very least, he warrants a position over two bums who have OPSes of .600. Getz has a .649 OPS down at B-Ham (unless BA's stats are just screwing me here). And considering he has a 50/44 BB/K ratio, and he's hitting down at a terrible hitting environment, I don't think it looks THAT bad. Ryan Sweeney only had a .728 OPS in his 1st full season down at B-Ham.
  9. MVP - Dye. And I hope he gets the real one as well. Best signing in KW's tenure as GM. Runner Up - Crede. What can you say, would have be one of the most valuable third baseman, if not the most valuable in all of baseball right now. Patience is a virtue, and now we're reaping the rewards. MVP - Jenks. I was torn on this one. But there were questions on Bobby coming into this season, and he's performed well from day one. Since he's been our most consistent pitcher from day one, that's what sets him apart from other Sox pitchers. Sure he's had moments where his ERA have gone up, but more importantly, he hasn't blown many saves. And considering former Sox closers, that's a godsend. Runner Up - Garland. My man JG (original backer here) . What he has done over the past 3 months, cannot be underestimated by any stretch of means. That ERA could get down below 4, which would be amazing considering the start he had to the season.
  10. Wonder what Cotts's main issue is right now. For those who have been watching him lately, is his velocity down, is he just missing his spots, or is fastball just not that deceptive now that hitters would have seen it quite a few times? You also have to remember, for a while early on in 2005, a simple adjustment of him just looking at the catcher's mitt IIRC was all the help he needed in become such a good reliever last season from then on.
  11. Someone's been listening to ya VA;
  12. QUOTE(SoxFanInDallas @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 10:56 PM) That has been the source of all my Chicago sports since I left Chicago. The website keeps erroring out. Anyone else experiencing this? Seems to be working fine for me.
  13. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 03:23 AM) Tevez to ARsenal?? Looks like one or the other. Arsenal may just get him. It's a really crazy time right now with the transfer window closing. Some of the rumors include; Malbranque and Chimbonda to Tottenham Duscher to Bolton or West Ham Jermaine Defoe to Aston Villa Woodgate on loan to Middlesborough Maschareno, Reo - Coker or Hargreaves to Man United. Robert Huth to Newcastle. Manuel Fernandes to Portsmouth Kewell to Spurs (apparently he's having a medical there today).

    This blows my mind...

    I have to say, just all of the advertising you guys have over there for Fast Food is just absolutely crazy. And then you have so many people going through the drive - thru at these joints, because they're too lazy to get out of their cars just to get their food.
  15. Yeah when I was in Salt Lake about 5 months back, this was really big back in the news over there. Nice to see they finally actually caught him.
  16. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 04:48 PM) I was watching the game live when it happened, that ball was hit crazy hard by Vlad. Soriano was incredibly lucky here. He hasn't a good run with injuries so far in his career that's for sure. Hopefully he can actually stay healthy for a while, because he's a damn good dominant reliever when he is.
  17. Garza's pitched pretty well again tonight for the Twinkies. Too bad for them they've been shutout by Redman. Good for us though.
  18. So long as Freddy can get thru this inning ok, then I think we should be ok with the likes of Thornton and MacDougall coming out of the pen to setup Jenks. Hopefully Ozzie doesn't go to someone like Cotts unless it's in the bag.
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 11:43 AM) It's not that I don't like them. Rather, I'd be more intrigued seeing the Reds, Giants, Marlins, or Phillies. Howard's just amazing right now, I'd love to cheer on Griffey Jr. (especially due to his parent situation), and I'm a fan of Bonds. The D-Backs in my mind are kind of the like the Marlins, got a lot of good young players like Drew, Jackson and Quentin. The Phillies would also be a great story. Ryan Howard's been the best player in baseball in the 2nd half of the season. Plus he's been hitting lefties as well. As for the Pads, they're just an organization I respect sticking with Bochy for as long as they have. You don't see that kind of loyalty much in sports these days.
  20. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 11:31 AM) I'd enjoy seeing anyone but the Padres and Dbacks from the possible WC winners. Why aren't you a fan of those 2 teams Fathom (FWIW, they're probably my 2 favorite NL Teams)?

    College Life

    QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 11:23 PM) Ughh...8:00 lecture classes=not cool Now it's time to do laundry! Even more fun I suppose if you are living on campus it's not so bad. I've had 7 a.m lectures before, and it takes me a good 15-20 mins to drive to Uni, so that ain't any fun at all let me tell you.
  22. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 10:42 PM) Am I the only person left in the world who doesn't own an Ipod? I'm gettin a Creative Zen Vision:M 30GB in a few weeks. I consider it to be better than the I-Pod Video Alternative, because it's got longer battery times, and more Div X Codec's and can play more Media Files than an I-Pod. So I can put all of my Family Guy episodes etc. on it, and it should play without a problem.
  23. It just shows how much things have turned around for Jermaine Dye since May 2005. Back then, he was hitting below .200 IIRC, people here were calling him Jermaine "Dead", and the signing looked like a bust. Now it looks like IMHO, the best deal KW's ever signed someone to. You'd be hardpressed to find a better deal than what he gave Dye, compared to what he'd get in the marketplace right now.
