  1. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 17, 2006 -> 11:53 PM) This whole thing basically started with Vicente Padilla 2 days ago, if anyone have their nuts stepped on by Major League Baseball it's Padilla and Showalter. There was an article in one of the Texas papers saying that Jon Daniels may not even re-sign Padilla in the off-season just because of all the trouble he's caused this season with these type of things. Certainly an interesting way to look at it I suppose.
  2. QUOTE(Felix @ Aug 17, 2006 -> 11:57 PM) No, I wouldn't. As far as I understand, the point of trading Garcia is to trade him while he still has any value at all as a 'big game pitcher' and to dump his contract. Adding Furcal where we would pay him 9-10 million would mean we aren't dumping any contract, and still have nearly 100 million tied up in 15 players or so. If we traded Uribe (who is better defensively than Furcal) and Pods, we'd be saving probably about 5 million (without looking at the numbers, so I don't know how accurate that is), and thats without including whoever we'd get from the Padres. It just doesn't work out for me. I suppose it depends a lot on whether Josh Fields is going to be the everyday LF next season. If so, SS seems like the only real option to get a new leadoff hitter. If we do trade Garcia, we aren't just not to use that money that we will save and not put it to any use. Sure some players here will get raises, but the payroll has gone up every season, and with the great attendances we've been having, I don't see any reason for that to change. It just depends on what KW decides to do with thay payroll room if he does move a big salary like Garcia. He's certainly shown in the last few seasons he'll go into the trade market if he wants his guy. I also think with what has happened with Uribe this season, and the questions being asked of him being in Ozzie's doghouse, even though that's probably not the case, he may not be here next season.
  3. QUOTE(Felix @ Aug 17, 2006 -> 11:49 PM) No thank you. Seriously. Unless the Dodgers cover that entire horrible contract, I don't want to see Furcal anyway near Chicago. Here's a hypthetical situation. If the Sox could trade Garcia in the off-season for prospects e.g to the Pads for Carillo and someone else, then trade Uribe and Pods in another deal, if the Dodgers paid a bit of the contract, so you would have to pay about $9-10M each season (same as you would for say Jimmy Rollins), would you consider acquiring Furcal than instead. I really think KW's going to be busy again this off-season changing the dynamics, and you could see at least 2 new hitters in this lineup.
  4. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Aug 17, 2006 -> 10:49 PM) The funny thing about the leadoff hitter is that they are only guaranteed to leadoff once a game. If the Sox move Pods, they will more than likely pickup a leadoff hitter at another position (SS). There are both FA and trade options out there for a leadoff SS or OF with the likes of Rollins, Furcal, Dellucci, Matthews Jr. etc. if the Sox decide to move Pods most likely to an NL team (like the Giants who desperately need a leadoff hitter) this off-season.
  5. A prospect for Gload I would do. Sign Cruz Jr. to be the backup OF, and Rogowski can be the 1B when rosters expand like you said. Ned Colletti has shown he'll trade prospects to win now.
  6. Dean Ashton broke his ankle in a tackle from Shawn Wright - Phillips in England training and is going to be out for 3 months. Just absolutely feel terrible for him at the moment. Was going to be his first ever England performance as well.
  7. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 01:44 PM) KMac is impressing still. 4 K, 10 GO, 3 FO I hope we stay aggressive with him. It's not like the Met will hurt him. Either way, you should definitely pencil him in for the Barons rotation next season. I assume they'll handle McCullough just like they did Lance Broadway. Could be a very nice AA rotation again next season with the likes of McCullough, Russell (good to see him have a nice start tonight BTW), Whisler, Harrell and Egbert.
  8. QUOTE(iamshack @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 09:29 AM) I know wins are a team-dependant performance measure, but they can't be entirely dismissed. Jon has more wins since the beginning of the 2005 season than any other pitcher in baseball (31) with the exception of Chris Carpenter, with whom he is tied. Would be interesting to see over the past year and a half how much run support he has gotten compared to our other starters over that period of time. But Jon's done the job in the past few months, and you can't complain about that after the start he had.
  9. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 01:27 PM) OMG, I'M BACK ON THE LEDGE !! We lose 1 game, and people are jumping back off the bandwagon. So long as we win the series and every series from here on in, which we have been doing lately, I am perfectly happy with that.
  10. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 01:24 PM) So your saying that was a good trade? Young could be horrible and never do anything, and this trade still hurts us. All I can say is we gave up easily our best position prospect, a decent bullpen arm, and kept our best pitching prospect out of the rotation where he belongs.....all to get a overpaid loser whose 6th inning meltdowns will be the reason we miss the playoffs if we do. Now I think we'll make the playoffs, and KW is still a great GM, but this trade still will go down as the worst KW has ever made. So if we hang onto Vazquez and he rebounds next season (which I think he will, think of the Contreras situation all over again), we trade Garcia for some prospects (Cesar Carillo anyone?), and Young is a bust, is it still a bad trade? It's just too early to judge still IMHO. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 01:26 PM) that teases scouts with his great stuff and occasional good outings, but for the most part is a mediocre pitcher who doesn't trust his stuff and has the intestinal fortitude of a chicken. Doesn't this EXACTLY remind you of Contreras when we acquired him?
  11. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 01:16 PM) Well the good news about Javy is that by getting him, we kept McCarthy out of the rotation, got rid of a decent bullpen arm in Vizcaino, and gave up Chris Young, who oh by the way will be a really good everyday outfielder one day. Not like we lost that trade or anything. The trade should really just be ruled incomplete until Chris Young shows he can play CF in the major leagues. And considering the D-Backs OF situation, will be interesting to see how they fit him in, or whether he's dealt for pitching possibly?
  12. Including his start tonight that's 7 ER he's given up in 18.2IP now, so an ERA of around 3.50 for this month so far. Tonight was a setback no doubt, but tonight he just didn't have his best stuff on the mound by all accounts. When he does, he has shown what he's capable of recently.
  13. Well at least it's a tie ballgame now.
  14. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 11:01 PM) I posted somewhere else that Levine said yesterday that he has heard the Sox have interest in Juan Pierre to play LF next year, and that Pods was on his way out. While I know Ozzie is a huge fan of Pierre, I couldn't see the Sox giving him more than a 2 year contract. I also find it interesting that Sweeney has been leading off in Charlotte. Yeah I would figure Pierre will easily get a 3 or 4 year deal this off-season. A team like the Giants would probably offer him that as they need a leadoff hitter pretty badly. There are other and better options in FA like Dellucci, Matthews Jr. etc. to consider as well. And don't forget we can trade Pods as well, because he's arbitration eligible. I figure some NL team like the Pirates would like to have a leadoff hitter of his stature compared to the great talent of Chris Duffy.
  15. QUOTE(Wanne @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 03:11 PM) I'm having a hard time imagining anyone would want anything but a sweep by Boston. BoSox sweep the tigers (not to mention send them into a further freefall)....the Sox sweep KC...2 games back! I guess the people happy with the WC root for Det. People wanting he Division root for Bos. Well I just want to make the playoffs and I don't really care how we do it, so long as we do, but it's going to be hard for me NOT to root for the Red Sox in this series. I think the wheels are just falling off Detroit right now. I've made numerous posts about their starting pitching in the 2nd half of the season so far.
  16. QUOTE(beautox @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 04:07 PM) Isn't Lugo a FA next year? and if so, then pick him up deal podsednik and uribe for something, place Fields in LF, let Ryan continue to devlop at AAA. If not maybe KW can pursue Chris Denorfia, he just got sent back down to AAA Louisville Bats(reds), to make room for Todd Hollandsworth. The reds have a log jam of OFers, and they already have their leadoff hitter in Freel. Denorfia started in CF for the AAA allstar game, can play all 3 OF positions incredibly well and is above average in CF, which would lead me to believe he could be amazing in LF. Hes their best defensive OF, and has the best strike zone discipline. Chris also has great character, hes been in their organization since 02, and has been nothing but class, from all the articles and interviews i've read about him. He just turned 26 on 7/15. Now what would it take to acquire him? my guess would be Freddy Garcia and maybe Harrell. Yeah Lugo's a FA, but he wants a 5 year 40M contract as a MINIMUM, and they guy's very error prone as a SS, which is a big no-no for Ozzie. I would think the Reds would jump at Garcia for Denforia ALONE. Freddy will have value as a trade chip to teams in the N.L this off-season like Philly, Cincinatti and San Diego just to name a few.
  17. QUOTE(longshot7 @ Aug 13, 2006 -> 01:01 PM) Agreed. Especially with our air marshals, I'll take those odds. Did you ever watch that 24 episode where Jack Bauer hijacks the plane.
  18. I'm going with the D-Backs or Padres.
  19. Could McPherson or the Saints sue the Titans Mascot? And hey, Tony Romo looked good last night. And for you Wite, Romo >>>>>>>> Losman.
  20. Things just keep getting worse for Liotta don't they. Wonder where he will start next season.
  21. SoxFan1 and anyone who loves Soccer will LOVE this;
  22. There are lots of similarities right now b/w the Tigers and what we went thru at this point last season. We need to keep the pressure on them right now, and keep winning series after series. Doesn't matter if it's 2 out of 3, just find a way to keep winnin em. Fantastic oppurtunity to take another game off that lead with Miner on the hill, and he hasn't been good. If Freddy can only give up 3 or 4ER, that might be enough for us, but the offense will have to do their job as well, which they have all season long. Hopefully that trend continues.
  23. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 13, 2006 -> 04:36 PM) Nah, I don't think Cruz was ever better than Wilson. Cruz was insanely talented but struggled to live up to his hype. That said he's a superior defender at all 3 positions to Wilson and hits lefties very well in his career and is used to coming off the bench. Hence why he would be IDEAL as a 4th OF for this team. Too bad it won't be happening.
  24. I'd prefer Jose Cruz Jr. still. EDIT: And that's because he plays a better defensive CF.
