FWIW here are some splits on Detroit's starters since the ASB; Miner - 6.57 ERA Rogers - 8.34 ERA Bonderman - 4.70 ERA Robertson - 5.45 ERA Verlander - 1.82 ERA It will be very interesting to see how Verlander's arm holds up tomorrow as well. Those stats above shows how IMPORTANT he will be to their rotation down the stretch.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 01:35 PM) Well, there is one reasonable option out there... Jose Cruz Jr. Of course, that'd mean that one of Gload or Ozuna would have to go. Yeah Cruz Jr. would be IDEAL as a backup outfielder right now, since he can actually handle CF defensively, and he's good against lefties. Makes too much sense, but the only way we'd get him would be on a minor league deal with a Septemeber call-up which probably ain't happening. A team like Seattle with a bad OF situation would probably at least offer him a bench spot I would say.

Nice to take some momentum into the Detroit Series. The guys are starting to respond, and I still get the feeliong the Tigers lead is catchable. Anything can happen still. Not one of Vaz's greatest outing, but anytime you can only get him to give up 2ER albeit in 5IP, you'll probably take, especially against the Yanks offense.

Now let's bring him in.

Alrite good job there Javy getting out of that. Let's get some runs of Mussina early.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 10:45 PM) Actually on a personal basis, I wonder how this affects Deploder's pending trip to the US this weekend. It sounds like things are crazy at Heathrow, with people being allowed no personal carry on bags, instead being handed a clear plastic bag in which only 7 items can be places, with a whole load of restrictions as to what is allowed, including no outside liquids of anykind. Yeah I would ABSOLUTELY hate to get stuck at Heathrow today. I mean a few months back I had to wait 2 hours at LAX to change terminals, check in, and get thru security, and it annoyed the hell out of me. Imagine just being stuck in a huge queue and not even moving for hours at all. I certainly hope the in flight movies are good choices for outgoing flights today when you can't take things like I-Pods and Laptops on your person either.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 10:59 PM) Yeah, I am sure you are on both of their speeddials, what with the winning personality and all Gotta get to #1 on that speed-dial as well; "Seinfeld you MAGNIFICENT BASTARD!!!!!"

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 10:06 PM) Freddy needs to go to the NL. It would give new life to his career. A team like the mets or the Padres should be interested in Freddy. Yeah and we'd be interested in the likes of Carillo and Linebrink. The Pads would be a good fit.

Very interesting article from Joe Cowley;

Shoota is there anyone you think is UNDERRATED? And my feelings on Portman would be well known. Didn't like her with the short hair though.

We've got a team option on him for next season that will definitely be picked up. It's a typical Rick Hahn type of deal, Jermaine Dye got one as well. 2 years and then a team option, with the salaries escalating thru the deal. And yeah there's no doubt his impact on the Sox is quite underrated I would have thought. Really been one of KW's best ever signings without a doubt.

Edwards has been doing well lately.

I'm from a different background etc. (well duh ), and I'm more of an optimistic type of guy, hence why you'll more often than not see me defending the players etc. instead of criticising them. I think Kap's hit the nail on the head though. We're all deeply passionate about this team, that's why we're on here discussing topics from the Rally Crede to whether we need a new leadoff hitter in place of a Podsednik next season. But I don't see a great need to go crazily overboard when we lose a game or 2. Let's just be thankful we're still in the race and as last night's game showed, ANYTHING can still happen.

Possibly some bad blood b/w Torres and the Sox perhaps (if you remember the negotiations for Jose's last deal)?

The infamous Dayn Perry wrote this about the stretch run home for the A.L contenders; Team Avg. opponents' win% % of games at home Angels 0.529 51.0 A's 0.487 54.9 Rangers 0.508 50.0 Red Sox 0.515 55.8 Twins 0.504 51.9 White Sox 0.528 52.8 Yankees 0.510 49.1 So the schedule makers haven't been kind to us this season.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 05:36 PM) Egbert is rolling, he'll easily be a top 10 prospect for the Sox if he puts up similar numbers in AA. Salvador Sanchez with a HR, I totally forgot about him. There's a ton of 'talented' bats on that team that have disappointed (Sanchez, Gomes, Orlando, Hernandez, Allen). You could almost throw in Carter to that mix, but he's at least a year younger than those guys. The Sox seem to the young pros play in rookie ball until they are 20 and then force them to stay in Kanny. If even 2 of the 5 guys I mentioned can turn it around it will be huge for this system as they have no depth as we have pointed out numerous times on this board. Yeah Egbert's had a very solid season for the Warthogs. Will be interesting to see how he does in B-Ham. So far Russell and Harrell haven't had good starts since making the jump, but Whisler had an excellent 1st one.

Can I still ask Flash where our Liriano is? At least he's not on the DL.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 01:07 PM) You may not think it's good enough but I'd say most Sox fans especially I would absolutely LOVE such a deal. The Mad Dog's velocity has been slipping so he's not going to last long in the AL but he could more than likely dominate the NL East especially in his first season. Yeah I would just jump at either of those 2 deals for. Don't really know why Florida would do it though MarlinFan. I mean you guys have got so many good young pitchers, and if you wanted a Garcia like pitcher, you could just try and make that sort of signing in FA, and then deal those young pitchers for some help in the lineup possibly?

Who will be the best QB in the league this year?
DBAHO replied to cuddlyboy26's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Bledsoe will probably suprise people again this season I would imagine. Favorable factors for him to have a better season than last year include; 1 - A better offensive line. Dependent on whether Flozell Adams can stay healthy for the whole season, and whether one of Fabini, Colombo and Pettiti can do the job at RT. 2 - Better supporting cast. Owens is an upgrade on Keyshawn. Crayton needs to stay healthy as the 3rd WR. Anthony Fasano as the 2nd TE will create matchup problems for LB's and safeties. Besides the obvious candidates though, I think Drew Brees will have a Pro Bowl year. -
QUOTE(shoota @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 03:26 PM) I'm starting to feel the same way. I'm still a bit disappointed he gave up the lead though. So long as we win, I don't care what happens quite frankly.

To Jermaine for knocking in the winning run, and to the rest of our offense!!!! Also to Freddy for gettin thru the 7th.
-
Well that's a HUGE victory in the current state of our season so far. And the Red Sox lost as well.
-
Good news is that the Yanks have used 6 guys from the pen already.

1 MORE PLEASE!!!!!!
