QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 01:26 PM) Yeah, I don't know how, if your the Minnesota Twins, you wouldn't be concerned about elbow pain in Liriano. They have to be concerned about his long term health. He has had arm and elbow problems when he was in the minors as well IIRC.

Ok Bobby let's get it done here.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 11:49 PM) So when Kenny said he was going to stand pat, he meant he was going to stand pat? So much for Flying Under the Radar now. That term got so overused around these parts last season, it pretty much lost all meaning.

QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 11:40 PM) What games were you watching? Pitching and defense were both terrible over the last 4 games, but at least the offense woke up again. Well then you can't really say the Sox are playing crap then, when at least the offense seems like it's starting to heat up again. Jose's outing last night, although he was very shaky early, he settled down into a good rhythm, and got thru 7 innings, which was crucial for the pen. Hopefully Mark can put up a good outing today, because I like our chances versus Perez who ain't goin to be stretched out very much.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 11:17 AM) Rodgers living up to his 2nd half name.... Yeah recent history hasn't been kind to him, Robertson or Bonderman in the post ASB's of the seasons, and so far it looks like it may be the same. So their offense is probably gonna have to step it up a few notches or 2, hence the addition of Casey.

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 10:57 PM) My guess is that he's already dead. They sit on these sort of announcements for a long time. That's what I've heard a bit as well. Would be a blow to the likes of Hugo Chavez in Venezuela as well I would imagine.

Mark has a 1.29 ERA against the Royals in 2 starts against them so far this season. A 3.24 career ERA against them in 25GS. But his away ERA is almost at 6. And righties have been crushing him at a .312 BAA. Unfortunately the Royals only have 3 guys really in DeJesus, Teahen and Gathright who are lefties. So Mark will have to be careful with the likes of Shealy (if he starts), German and Emil Brown tonight, if he wants to do well.

The amount of innings our starters have thrown over the past few seasons, were probably bound to catch up to them at some point; MB 01- 221.1 IP 02 - 239 IP 03 - 230.1 IP 04 - 245.1 IP 05 - 236.2 IP 06 - 138.1 IP (so far) That's over 1300 innings in 5 and a half seasons for Mark. Freddy 01 - 238.2 IP 02 - 223.2 IP 03 - 201.1 IP 04 - 210 IP 05 - 228 IP 06 - 133.2 IP (so far) Total of over 1200 innings for Freddy there in those 5 and a half seasons.

Flash I thought you would be interested in this article, as you are currently on your Minor League Crusade; More teams like the Indians and Mets are becoming more active down here, but it's still mainly the Red Sox and Twins who get most of the talent down here.

Will be interesting to see where he's hitting in the lineup. It will still ultimately come down to their SP though.
-
Terrible luck for them. Hoepfully for their sake he'll be back pitching for them in the playoffs.
-
Hawkins would still be a guy I'd target in FA to replace say a Riske. He was very good early on, but for whatever reason he just hasn't put it together this season. His away splits are just BRUTAL. But he throws hard, and would be a good 6th-7th inning guy for the right price. We all remember what he was like back in Minnesota.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 03:22 PM) By the way, I'd just like to take a moment to say that Jim Bowden, IMO, cost himself his job today. It might happen at the end of the year when Soriano leaves, it might happen 2-3 years down the road after the Nats way overpay Soriano in order to avoid losing him, but it cost him his job. If the Twins did indeed offer Matt Garza after all (and I've heard conflicting reports on this), Bowden needs to be fired right now for keeping Soriano. Alfonso wants a no trade clause in his next deal and Stan Kasten doesn't want to give him one. So most likely he won't be in Washington next season.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 02:16 PM) greasywheels=pansy willie=megapansy. Fun game this.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 11:27 PM) If he has then I wouldn't mind seeing Kenny get back into the mix. Pods + prospects like Broadway should definitely be back on the table. And if you argue against trading more prospects, well consider that we'll get 2 draft picks for Alfonso if he leaves as a FA if we offer him arbitration. Also this on the Pirates and Mets;

Bowden may be coming to his senses after all;

QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 11:18 PM) The only motivation is to keep Soriano off Minnesota-the Yanks Got Abreu, if Minn gets Soriano, we have lost ground to the 2 wild card contenders- Right now Bowden is insisting on Matt Garza as part of a deal for Soriano. I wonder if Terry Ryan has stopped laughing yet. Frankly I think you'll see Soriano shipped out, and it very well could be to Florida. They were offering 3 SP prospects including Pinto and Vargas. Their new president is really big on building from within and getting good young pitching, this would be a start.

QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 10:56 PM) Rogers is toast, but Im surprised about Verlander. I thought he would wear down in his first full season, but hes showing no signs of doing so. The thing is, I really cant see him staying this strong through a deep playoff run. Hes never thrown that many innings. And even if the Tigers do win the whole thing, we can hope Verlander and Bonderman get Buerhle/Garcia dead arm syndrome and that Liriano and Santana trip and fall on the same banana peel. Thoughts echoed on Verlander as well. If he starts to struggle though, the Tigers will be vulnerable for the rest of the season in my mind. They're certainly not pitching as well as they did in the 1st half, and I think when you don't draw many walks as an offense like they do, you can't keep hitting so good and scoring as many runs as they have forever. But who knows, they'll probably prove me wrong, like they have for the season so far. And full credit to them for the way they have taken it up to every other team so far.
-
Good deal for the Royals if they can pull this off;
-
This was only what Bobby's actual 2nd blown save of the season. He can't be on all of the time, and we've got that insurance in MacDougall in case we need it.
-
I prefer to dwell on the positives; Nate Robertson Post ASB - 6.86 ERA Kenny Rogers Post ASB - 10.97 ERA Jeremy Bonderman Post ASB - 4.56 ERA Lucky for them, Verlander has won 3 of his starts, and Miner continues to float above water.

Hey Jude. We had a work function 3 weeks back when my boss departed. We ended eating dinner at a Vietnamese Restaraunt. And Karoake is absolutely HUGE in Vietnam. So needless to say, there was a Karaoke Stage, and we all belted out a few tunes. Unfortunately all the music was from the 60's and 70's, so there were only songs like New York, New York and some Bob Marley song that went for about 8 minutes.

So I got tackled from the side in a Work Soccer Competition today, and ended up sliding head first into the muddy pitch. I don't exactly have the skills and co-ordination of a Ronaldinho on the ball now. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 01:45 PM) Just came back from Orlando, FL and I must say I thank god that I'm still young, wish I was 21 though.. Basically one more year to go though. Florida has very consistant weather. It's eigher Hot-humid, rains-hot-humid or is hot-humid. Watched out for J.J Redick out on the roads I hope.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 04:37 PM) A: We’ll see. It’s not on the front burner. I love the international aspect of our game. I think it’s important that the Royals are very visible and very competitive internationally. We’ve got to clean up some things more on the immediate front. We’ve got to get our program going in Latin America and establish our presence there and then expand out to the eastern part of the world. All while making sure that we’re very successful with the draft and taking care of the players that we have in the system through our development programs." Hopefully this is EXACTLY why KW has in mind in terms of beefing up our minor league system. I've said it many times before, just down here in Australia, the Red Sox, Padres and Twins pretty much have a mortgage on the talent on offer down here. Like to see the Sox get more active internationally for sure.
