QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 23, 2006 -> 12:39 AM) I'd like to see a new SS with speed and OBP and at least decent D to leadoff. Then put Gload in LF and hitting #2 (Pods-like defense, but way better offense) until Owens or Sweeney are ready (which they are not). Alternately, if Fields looks ready, bring him up for LF and to spell Crede at 3B. Either way, we need that SS. Who is the best out there that we have a chance at getting? Jimmy Rollins I would say. Gives you that speed and has good underrated defense, but there's a slight question about his OBP. Michael Young would be the best option, but he'll cost more than Rollins because his contract is a lot more friendly.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Sep 23, 2006 -> 12:53 AM) well, my point is that the White Sox are not the right match. No need for D-Train. I wouldn't rule it out at all. KW's going to make a splash in the off-season. He did that last off-season filling our main need in getting a big left handed hitting slugger in Thome. Our main need this off-season is getting better starting pitcher, and Kenny may decide Willis is the guy to do that.

It's quite sad to watch that franchise for the past decade though, in terms of the mistakes management has made. I mean I honestly couldn't believe they didn't take what the Angels were offering for Miggy Tejada at the deadline.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Sep 23, 2006 -> 12:38 AM) Yes, but you don't understand. Why would the Marlins swap Willis to us for Garland, whom they could get less for? Stategically, that is a horrible move. Garland is better than Willis when considering the league in which he pitches, so our swapping him for Willis would be dumb, let alone adding a spect or two. so, basically, you're saying the marlins would want to trade willis for garland because they could get LESS for garland? it just doesn't add up. I'm saying that we would have to trade a prospect along with Garland to get Willis (although I don't agree with that value wise, that is probably what would happen). Then the Marlins would trade Garland and still get prospects along with that. It depends on what type of prospects they want. They have a huge need for a young stud center fielder. So if the Marlins traded Willis to the Mets for say some stud pitching prospects, they haven't filled that CF need. That's why he may end up at a team like the D-Backs for Chris Young. It's kind of like the Jeff Weaver to the Yanks trade that happened a few years back. The Yanks got Weaver and gave up Ted Lilly and other prospects. The Tigers could have held onto Lilly but traded him to Oakland so that they could get Bonderman and Pena. So if the Tigers decided to just straight up trade Weaver to the Yanks the end result in terms of the players and prospects they got back would have been different.

Speaking of this, my friend's brother won a competition down here for 2 people to go see the final show in L.A and go to the backstage party they had after the show, with 7 days accomodation and all expenses paid. Needless to say I was pretty jealous.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Sep 23, 2006 -> 12:26 AM) but why would random 3rd team want to give prospects for garland when they could have done so for willis? unless we were to include prospects with garland in a deal to get willis, which i don't think is the best idea. willis would get pwned in the AL. Because the 3rd team may have to give up less for Garland than they would for Willis. And because they know if they can't trade for Willis, well Garland is a pretty good backup scenario. I'd imagine we'd have to give up a prospect along with Garland to get Willis.

Gees is Cora even more hated than Waving Wally was?

QUOTE(spiderman @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 11:38 PM) Why would the Marlins, with their $14 million payroll, take on J.Garland who makes $9 million a season for the next few seasons ? If we want to add Willis, we're going to have to trade McCarthy, and prospects. A 3rd team could be involved in the deal, or the Marlins could just then on trade Garland to another team for prospects. Either way, if Willis and Cabrera are going to be moved, Beinfest will want to get the best deal possible in terms of prospects, so he may have to get creative.

In case you forgot what that was all about last season;
-
Interesting read; So would you trade Garland as part of a deal for Willis, and who would a young quality SP be to make you think about dealing Jon?
-
From the South Florida Sun - Sentinel; I'd expect Fredi Gonzales to get the job though if a move was made.

I'm going to ask another Computer Question. Basically all of my saved games for any PC Games are corrupting. So if I save something, the next day when I try to open it it won't open, basically happens for any games. I'm thinking it's a Windows Registry problem somewhere in the database and I'll need to install a brand new version of XP. Are there any other solutions here possibly?

So why honestly are Hot Dogs so popular up there in America?
-
If anything Ozzie probably could have done a better job at getting his bench guys into the mix more so guys like Konerko etc. aren't complaining so much of being tired because they get more rest. For example I remember Ross Gload was hardly used at all in the 1st 2 or 3 months (albeit Ozzie was going in with the hot hands in Thome and Konerko). But there wasn't really much of a point of having Gload on the bench, hence why people such as myself and fathom were calling for a RH OF who could play CF to be acquired.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 03:15 PM) Felix, what exactly is your problem? I don't think Tizzle is rooting against this team. This team has shown nothing for over 3 months now. Why expect anything from them? I suppose because high expectattions were placed on this team from day 1, and they haven't lived up to that. Either way you know KW is not going to sit there and take this. There are going to be wholesale changes made, from the rotation to the bullpen and the lineup. Obviously the mix they have in there is not working at the moment.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 12:10 PM) Any thoughts on the Sox trying to trade for ARod this offseason, and make him a SS? Give the Yanks Garcia and Fields, and hope they throw some money into the deal? I'd say the Yanks would probably get better offers from teams like the Angels than that.

It's quite amazing that Vaz only has 2 wins in now 13 starts (most likely) since the ASB and his ERA will be around 4, yet pre ASB he had 9 wins with an ERA of 5.07.
-
Well a nice outing again by Vazquez. He deserved much better in terms of run support.

QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 12:01 PM) Probably not, but what a manager should be judged on is how well he did with the talent he was given. He was given 100+ win talent and this is what he's done with them. And it wasn't just bad luck. He makes bad lineups, bad decisions with starting pitchers, handles the bullpen poorly and makes other bad in-game decisions. I'd say it basically comes down to how we've pitched this season. We've got a better lineup this season, although guys like Pods and Uribe have regressed, while our SP's just haven't gotten the job done. If they had, then yeah we'd probably be a 100+ win team.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 11:54 AM) We're well under .500 since the ASB, and the intensity level has been pathetic down the stretch. I have no problem with this team not making the playoffs...not once in the last 3 months did they give me any reason to think they're better than the Tigers and Twins. However, what's not acceptable is how these guys have just turned off the engine since this month started. If Ozzie didn't win the WS last year, there'd be a lot of people saying he deserves to be fired. Realistically is a manager going to get fired if his team wins say 90 games in a season?

QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 11:52 AM) Haven't the posts on this board showed you that most Sox fans are happy with the Sox performance this year? Or, they are happy about last year and are giving the Sox a pass for this year. Or, they have come up with handy excuses for the Sox horrible play. So don't expect booing. Most Sox fans are okay with this s***. You act like we're under .500 or something.
