  1. Maybe KW gets a better package of prospects (like both Danks and Hurley) for dealing JG instead of dealing Garcia where you may only get 1 of those 2 back.
  2. Interesting trade, and one I certainly didn't expect to see when I first came on here this morning. Hopefully Aardsma can flourish under Coop like Matt Thornton did last season. Certainly sounds like he has the stuff and velocity to pitch well if he can get his mechanics right and stay healthy. Vazquez adds to our system a bit, and hopefully in a season or 2 he'll be up pitching in our pen. Sad to see Neal go, as he was one of my favorites, but that's the nature of the business. He had a good start to 06, but just got worse as the season went on. Will be very weird seeing him in the Cubs colors, and whether he becomes a starter or goes back to being a good reliever. I'd expect the Sox to sign a LOOGY from the likes of Villone and Ray King now as well, and I wonder if we'll still go after Justin Speier (who should be getting around what Jamie Walker go, or maybe even more).
  3. QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 09:59 PM) If the Drays liked a SP prospect from a team the sox dealt Freddy to, then I could see a deal for Baldelli. I'm not up on his past injuries, though. But he's got a lot of upside. And he'd cost far less than Crawford. But he's not worth BMac. I wonder if say the Sox got a package of Hurley, Diamond, Arias (and someone else) for Garcia and Anderson, and then they traded Diamond and Broadway to Tampa for Baldelli to get the CF they need. But the Sox may decide they could get a CF via FA, or acquire one like Coco Crisp without giving up as much as they would for Baldelli.
  4. Full article on the move here;
  5. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 09:05 PM) My friend who is a diehard rangers fan is super excited about Hurley... he thinks that the kid will be the next best thing. Personally im more of a Danks fan myself and I dont care for Diamond that much at all. I'll admit I was more of a Danks fan as well, because he's a tall lefty with pretty good stuff, and we don't have a lot of that at all, but reading up on Hurley he sounds like a damn good prospect, especially with the way he finished off the season in AA, and the fact he throws with pretty good velocity. I would be happy to get a package involving either of them for Garcia. Trade Vazquez to the Mets, Garcia to the Rangers, and sign a FA SP like Batista on an inflated 1 year deal with a option for a 2nd I say.
  6. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 08:07 PM) The Devil Rays won't trade Baldelli or Crawford to the White Sox unless McCarthy is involved. I love some of these White Sox prospects just as much as the next person. As any fan of there team will. Still, it's not happening unless McCarthy is involved. We all know that the D-Rays want young pitching, badly. I think it's more likely they end up shipping someone like Elijah Dukes to the Marlins anyways. The Sox would have to offer a couple of other prospects besides Broadway to get Andrew Friedman interested anyways.
  7. Just because I love comparisons so much; Post ASB BA - .257/.301/.393 Rowand for all of 2006 - .262/.321/.425
  8. Posted a few weeks back that I had just started to listen to Sams Town, well now I'm really starting to get into Bling and For Reasons Unknown and Sams Town from that CD. And Incubus's new album comes out this month, or has it come out already?
  9. Now there's no way I'm giving up B-Mac for Baldelli. BUT, if you could say build a deal around Lance Broadway instead, and IF Brian Anderson is traded to say the Marlins or Rangers, does making a trade for Baldelli make any sense? Splits of .302/.339/.533 this season in 92 games.
  10. More stuff on the Rangers pitching prospects;
  11. So IF we gave up Garcia and Anderson to the Rangers, what type of package would you deem suitable? Eric Hurley - RHP, 5-6, 4.11 ERA, 106/32 K/BB ratio at High A, 3-1, 1.95 ERA, 31/11 K/BB ratio at AA. John Danks - LHP, 5-4, 4.15 ERA, 82/22 K/BB ratio at AA, 4-5, 4.33 ERA, 72/34 K/BB ratio at AAA in the PCL. Thomas Diamond - RHP, 12-5, 4.24 ERA, 145/78 K/BB ratio at AA. Joaquin Arias - SS, .268/.296/.361 in AAA in the PCL, .545/.583/.636 in 11AB's for the Rangers. Nick Masset - Converted starter, had 9 saves with a 2.25 ERA in the Mexican Winter League on Nov. 12.
  12. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 03:53 PM) Yeah. Also JC Romero, if you want to go a little more risk/reward. As bad as last year was, he was still good against lefties. I figure the Sox might try to sign a hisk risk / high reward type of signing like King or Romero if they want to get a specialist lefty, instead of trading for one, since they're gonna miss out on Walker now.
  13. QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 03:44 PM) Take the ? out of the sox's part they have signed a tentative deal to play in Glendale along with the LA Dodgers. Now all that needs to happen is to get the grant which should be easy considering the Glendale officer is much better for the city and the State. http://www.azcentral.com/sports/diamondbac...le15-ON-CP.html Soooo heading back to Glendale in 08 or 09 then. I'm glad that this has been discussed a bit over the past year or 2, and the wheels are finally in motion for this to occur.
  14. Amazed that the Jays are giving him that kind of $$$ frankly. But then again, the contracts of Burnett and Ryan last season showed they're willing to overpay to get talent. If Lilly bolts though, they'll need SP badly.
  15. Isn't Ray King a FA this off-season? I know he's been mentioned on here before, back when he was pitching well for the Cards.
  16. So basically, if Tucson and the D-Backs can find another team to share TEP during ST with the D-Backs, the White Sox will probably be off to Glendale right? Sounds like right now it's probably more in favor of happening anyways.
  17. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 10:29 AM) And if he was so flipping bad (which he was in the first half) why didn't they do something about this last season and send him back to AAA to fix his stroke and confidence. Probably because he actually had pretty decent 2nd half splits for this season, which shows that what he needs more than anything is time at the plate at the major league level.
  18. Figured this deserved it's own thread, instead of just dumping it in the off-season thread. From today's Sun Sentinel down in Florida; Andino wasn't in the Marlins top 20 prospects in John Sickels list coming into this season (although that's more due to the depth of the Marlins system as a whole). He's 22 and had splits of .255/.303/.363 in the PCL for Alberquque this season. For comparisons sake, Joaquin Arias who the Rangers may offer up for Brian Anderson, had splits of .268/.296/.361 in the PCL also this season. I'd hope to do better for BA quite frankly.
  19. From today's Newsday; And Beck I would be very happy if we could get that type of package for Freddy Garcia, very happy indeed.
  20. Had this from the New York Times today; So it looks like if we want Humber or Pelfrey, it's gonna cost Vazquez and not Garcia.

    QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 15, 2006 -> 12:13 PM) I'm from Texas mate Oi I remember those Amish jokes we used to crack on you (good times, good times).
  22. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Nov 15, 2006 -> 06:15 PM) Crisp has never been a high OBP player (career OBP .329). His career OPS is .745. He is at his peak, in that he is 27, and so it might be reasonable to hope for a year like 2005 (career best) where he was around a .340 OBP with an .810 OPS. I think he didn't play well in CF at all last season (some metrics have him being the worst CF in the AL that qualified with enough innings). And regardless of what you think of metrics, the Red Sox are interested in moving him after trading a big, big time prospect for him and locking him up with a new contract. I think they aren't happy with his glove in CF and don't think his bat is adequate in LF. I don't think Crisp is a bad player, and he's definitely quite a bit better than Pods, but I'd hate to see him hitting 1 or 2 in the White Sox lineup. Maybe it's just me, but .345 is not a good OBP for a leadoff hitter. Iguchi could do that. And Crisp has to hit .300 or above to get his OBP that high, since he doesn't walk. Factor in that you would have to give a up a useful pitcher to get him, and I'll pass on Crisp. You have to remember he'd be coming to a very good hitting envrionment at the Cell, so that number could rise even. This is where the Sox have to weigh up their options. Dave Roberts had a .360 OBP this season, but would that number stay the same over the course of a 3 year period? Is Juan Pierre going to be worth a 3 year /30M deal?
  23. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Nov 15, 2006 -> 06:04 PM) I get what you're saying. I just don't think we can get to the playoffs next year with multiple young/unproven arms in the rotation (I'm assuming you have Pelfrey in the rotation). You can always try to sign a starter like Miguel Batista on a short - term deal for a season or 2, if you wanted to trade 2 starters. Imagine getting Danks and Arias for Garcia, and a package reloving around Mike Pelfrey for Vazquez. You can plug both in AAA for the season, and along with Lance Broadway, you've got 3 guys who can contribute in 2008, which will be very important if Mark Buehrle bolts in FA.
  24. QUOTE(Vance Law @ Nov 15, 2006 -> 05:46 PM) Youch. Crisp is actually pretty bogus. Sox fans are frustrated that we didn't make the playoffs with such a good team and want to blame it on Podsednik, (who had a mediocre, not horrible, year and endured some bad slumps), who they saw struggling often during the year, rather than on our pitching (poo-tching, really), which took us to a World Series title in '05 by being the best in the AL all year, and then lights out in the playoffs, and in '06 managed to keep us out of the playoffs despite the having #3 run scoring offense in baseball, by giving up an ENTIRE RUN MORE PER GAME THAN WE DID IN '05. Whew, got it all in in one sentence. Crisp last year had a joke OBP of .317 and managed basically half the number of steals that Pods had. As Jimbo said that finger injury he had hardly did him any favors whatsoever this season. In 2005 he had a .300/.345/.465 stat line, which would look very nice for our leadoff hitter. In comparison, Podsednik had a .261/.330/.353 line. So that OBP of .330 is something that we need to upgrade. Crisp is just about to enter his prime, and is signed for another couple of seasons. If we can't get Crawford (because it costs too much) we need to look at other alternatives like Crisp.
