QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 07:54 PM) anyone know what kind of stuff this kid has? I can't find ANYTHING about his stuff, and I commend the person who can (so get cracking).

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 08:41 PM) Idonno to me the Giants got the most pressure on Romo that ive seen so far and he did not look very well against them. I think the thing with Romo is the more he starts the more teams will understand how to play him.... By next season I dont expect him to be all that good at all and Dallas will be shopping for a QB in the draft. He still threw for 257 yards though, and he adjusted to the rush in the 2nd half. Do I think he's a +100 QB rating quarterback? No I don't. But he's certainly the best QB we've had since Troy Aikman, and Romo looks like being our QB for the next 5-10 years. There's a lot of similarities b/w him and Tom Brady (call me crazy).

Sox & Angels Talking; Crede/Garcia for Santana/Figgins
DBAHO replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 02:54 PM) OH NO DBAHO!!!! Haha yes. For the good of my man crush, I'm going to throw this out there. Angels get; Joe Crede Freddy Garcia D-Backs get; Joe Saunders White Sox get; Chad Tracy Ervin Santana So basically I'm substituting Figgins for Tracy, and the D-Backs end up with Saunders. Here's how Tracy and Figgins compared from last season; Tracy - .281/.343/.451 Figgins - .267/.336/.376 The main issue is that Tracy had a .691 OPS away from Chase Field this season, which is well not good. But Chase and the Cell are similar for their propensity to favour the hitters. Unfortunately, Tracy just ain't that good of a fielder at 3rd base. 25 errors and a .935 FPCT at 3rd base, compared to Crede's 10 errors and a .978 FPCT. But the Sox could always go with the option, of moving Tracy to an OF spot, trading Podsednik, giving the leadoff spot to Gooch, and have Tracy hit 2nd in the order. And if Jermaine Dye leaves for FA, Tracy would be a good player to have fill RF. I think he's signed for another 3 years at about $10M IIRC. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 04:57 PM) Isn't Sauders just Heath Phillips plus 10 ML starts? Probably, but he's young and cheap, which is probably why the D-Backs are interested in him. They need some young pitching in their rotation, when they have the likes of Davis (who'll have to be re-signed) and Livan Hernandez, so it makes sense financially more than anything. -
There's 1 main difference I see with Romo vs. Grossman. When Rex gets pressure in his face, that's when he's prone to mistakes, throwing off his back foot etc. and throwing up interceptions. Romo on the other hand, has excellent pocket presence, and he can escape the pocket, and make throws on the run. In fact, I'd say he's probably a better thrower when he's out in the open, but that's not to say he isn't a good passer in the pocket. The main issue the Cowboys are going to have in the playoffs is their pass rush. When Ellis went down, it basically took their pass rush to being revolved around 1 guy, DeMarcus Ware, hence he's getting more double teams now. The Boys need the likes of Chris Canty and Bobby Carpenter to step it up on passing downs, to help take the pressue off Ware. This is one area, where the Bears have a BIG advantage over the Cowboys, the ability to generate the rush.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 11:51 AM) Zoom, did you just say that Pods is not that much better than Crawford? I just have to be sure. I have been drinking a lot. As a leadoff hitter I presume he's saying (of course Pods would have to be at his best here). When Crawford is hitting #2 or #3 in the lineup, it ain't even close.
-
QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 10:29 AM) Well, the one thing about young hitting is it tends to be more consistent than young pitching, and hitting as a whole tends to be more consistent from year to year than pitching. I like having the young pitching because of the price, but as we all saw last year, you never quite know what you are getting for sure from your pitching staff. I think the main consideration here is we know what we would get from Crawford, whereas we can't be certain what we'll get from McCarthy. Wasn't the case with Brian Anderson this season. Young hitting takes time to adjust and produce at the major league level, unless you're an Albert Pujols or Miggy Cabrera. With young pitching, if it'sgood enough, then yeah it can be successful sooner IMHO.
-
B-Mac had a major problem giving up the longball when he 1st came up. I'm not looking at the stats since then, but when he was majorly successful as a starter in post ASB 2005, I believe that number of HR's he gave up went down. Not sure what it was as a reliever though in 2006.
-
B-Mac showed me in my mind in that last start of the season he had, what he was capable of if the Sox made him a full time starter in 2006. And I know people will argue well that's a small sample size etc. and he sucked in the pen, but you have to consider the other factors that made him put up those type of numbers. Don't forget those great numbers he put up in the 2nd half of 2005 either as a starting pitcher. And like I always say, I'll take my chances of great young pitching over great young hitting.
-
Crawford would be too expensive to attain if you had to give up B-Mac or any of the young pitching you would acquire in trading one of your established SP's IMHO. The Sox are going to improve next season, not from getting a better leadoff hitter (although it will help, it looks like we're hoping Pods can rebound) but from getting better starting pitching. Moving McCarthy into the rotation, and getting better bullpen pitching will help achieve that goal, and by acquiring young pitching, you sure up a point that's going to need re-inforcements in the near future, if a Buehrle bolts in FA.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 09:15 AM) Many seem to. I'm not convinced. I expect to see BA put up similar numbers to what he did in the 2nd half of 2006, with a bit more power, and hopefully a cut down on the K's a little. The main issue I have with Rowand is the amount of times he K's at the plate, and yeah I know people will argue he's a clutch hitter and everything, but to me he's never been the same since that 2004 (think it was that or 05) season he had.
-
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 09:01 AM) He had a pretty rough outing against the Giants. Didn't have a good start, but he had a very good 2nd half. Plus the Giants were always going to come out desperate, and Giants Stadium ain't exactly the easiest place for a QB to play well, with all of the wind and everything. So I was happy he put us in the position to win, which is all we can ask for. Certainly looks better than Rex though. On another note, the Cowboys vs. Saints game next week should be a doozy. Parcells vs. Payton. Both teams could get over 30 points in this one.
-
Is it just me or do other people think Brian Anderson could out-produce Aaron Rowand with the bat next season?
-
Wonder where he'll start in the minors next season for us, certainly will be an interesting prospect to watch. Flash I'm suprised, you've not asked for the Latin America Scouts to be replaced by the ones operating in the Asian Region yet.
-
So let's see; Ervin Santana and Chone Figgins OR A-Rod. Considering we could MAYBE get a prospect in the 1st deal as well, I know which way I'm heading on this. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 11:19 AM) Yeah, we'd be fools to trade an impending FA and a guy who had a career year who won't re-sign here anyway for likely the best baseball player of our time. I don't see how this makes sense financially, unless you raise the payroll another 20M-30M at least. And I'd rather get the young pitching in Santana, and let Josh Fields develop at 3rd base (even though I don't think he's ready yet), but that's just me.
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 08:32 AM) Again, not true. If the team is drafting from 16th-30th in the big leagues, they don't give up their first round pick. They give up a second or third round pick, and along with that, the Sox get a sandwich pick after the first round. And if you're trying to tell me that a team wouldn't give up a 2nd or 3rd rounder just to sign Riske, you're mistaken. Yes. Based on a half-season of stats, Riske won't get the same money Bradford got. Great logic. I'm not saying Riske will get more or less money, but based on what, 30 IP? GMAFB. And I'd look at how Riske hasn't gotten any better since that 04 season (just going off the top of my head here). Personally I don't think he's a great option, especially when you consider he wasn't used much for a bullpen that struggled in 2006 (although that was due to Ozzie's love of the matchups, e.g lefties against Cotts). And also I don't think Bradford will live up to that contract, because he's only successful under Rick Peterson's tutelage right? But for the money Riske is going to get, he could well put up better stats than Bradford, just because Bradford will be leaving his "comfort zone", and Riske could pitch in a better pitching envrionment. Doesn't mean he's going to get a 3Y/10M deal though.
-
So you think ol Vandy would of hit that?
-
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 06:13 PM) Teams don't have a choice on giving up draft picks. Somebody would eventually sign him (he won't retire at the age of 30) but they would probably get him at an even cheaper cost because the team would have the leverage of saying "well we don't want to give up a pick, so this is why we are offereing less." Also, if one of the bottom 15 teams signs him they won't lose a first round pick. When David Riske signs with someone, I'm quite sure it will be a multiyear deal with at least $2 million per year. He;ll probably get a contract like Chad Bradford. Chad Bradford had a 2.90 ERA and a 2.22 ERA after the ASB. In comparison, Riske had a 3.83 ERA for the White Sox, so I'd personally be suprised if Riske got a similar contract to Bradford.

Sox & Angels Talking; Crede/Garcia for Santana/Figgins

Nothin really new, but from the LA Times; -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 12:33 PM) Right now, does that Washburn deal really look that bad? With the way he performed last season, I say it probably does. Although if a Gil Meche is going to get $10M a season, what can ya do?
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 12:18 PM) Some of the responsibility for their decline is not necessarily the GM's fault...some of it is probably due to the, ahem, "cough cough" "sudden unexpected decline in performance" of some of their players, like Boone, which really hurt them as well. But yeah, they're really regretting that 3rd baseman they bought. And I'll even admit, I thought that was a great deal when it was signed. Bavasi just hasn't done a good job at filling other needs on that ballclub though, especially on the pitching side of things. At least Beltre showed some promise in the 2nd half of this season (think he hit over .300). But then there's the really, really stupid signings like Carl Everett (didn't last the season), signing Jarrod Washburn to a 4 year $36M deal (produces a 4.67 ERA in an excellent pitching environment) etc.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 12:14 PM) I would say that some people think he's overrated, not necessarily most. I would say that the Mets had some problems with his attitude, being a little too arrogant for a Rookie last year, and that might have hurt him some. But personally, I think he could be an excellent addition to the White Sox, especially as a Left Fielder/replacement for Podsednik. And yes, we have 2 young outfielders in Anderson and Sweeney, but there are 3 outfield spots, all 3 of which we may need people for by the time 2008 starts. We can throw Fields into that mix, but it's looking more and more like he'll be needed at 3rd base. And after that, our options are the Free Agent Market or Jerry Owens. I don't exactly think going to the FA market is a bad option when it comes to filling that need. If you remember with Jermaine Dye, it was basically a buy low type of signing. Didn't have great numbers out of Oakland, but he came to a better hitting environment, became healthy and produced. I'd expect the Sox to try and make that type of signing again if possible. As for Milledge, I'd just prefer to get good young pitching over good young hitting. And as for Milledge, I'd imagine KW will do some checks on his attitude and his background, because you know they want good character guys for the clubhouse who will fit in (although you can argue we signed Pierzynski but that really fit a huge need for us).
-
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 11:20 AM) Let the Mariners flush $5M down the toilet in '07. Yep, shows why Bill Bavasi is probably the worst General Manager in Baseball today. And it'll only get worse in 2008 when the likes of Ichiro are gone, and they'll completely have to rebuild, which is a sad state of affairs, considering how good that franchise was from 95 to earlier this decade.
-
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 11:09 AM) Riske was a type A, so we would've had at least two picks. And the question still remains, who's going to give up a 1st round pick to sign a David Riske, when you could sign a Russ Springer without giving that up?
-
QUOTE(shoota @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 08:57 AM) Yes, which is why I'm uncomfortable with his lack of quality, agressive deals this offseason (so far). So would you have liked us to sign Alfonso Soriano to that 8 year deal as an "aggressive" signing? QUOTE(Craig Grebeck @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 10:29 AM) Do you even follow baseball? Milledge is one of the best prospects in the game. Most people think he's overrated. I would rather target the likes of Eric Hurley and John Danks from Texas, considering we already have some young OF's in Brian Anderson and Ryan Sweeney.

QUOTE(T R U @ Dec 2, 2006 -> 02:41 PM) Yes I do, but I hate Romo cuz he gets to drill Jessica Simpson Well it's safe to say his life has certainly picked up in the past month hasn't it.
