QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 11:43 AM) Jake Delhomme has ligament damage in his thumb and is listed as questionable for this weekend's game (but ESPN says they don't expect him to play). He injured the thumb in the first quarter of the game Monday night but played through it. I'm sure he won't be slapping his butt at the line of scrimmage to indicate a fade route to Keyshawn next time as well.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 11:23 AM) a guy with the upside of harden.....which we dont have Take out Heilman, put in Garcia, Milledge and Humber for Garcia I would do. If Vazquez was traded, I'd ask the Mets for another prospect (one that isn't in their top 5, but would still interest us).

These names would probably come into play I'd imagine; Jason Hirsh Troy Patton The C prospect (can't remember his name, but I posted it before in the Winter Meeting Thread). Hunter Pence. Chris Burke Brad Lidge Willy Taveras Choose 2 or 3 out of there. EDIT: And if the Sox traded Crede, they could target Morgan Ensberg as a replacement, while his value is down.

Bill Bavasi is just really a horrible GM. He's getting crucified from all directions on the Soriano for Ramirez deal. Trading a stud reliever (when healthy) for a 4th starter is how you sum it up. Guess that's the price of Starting Pitching though. Guess that means the possibility of Freddy Garcia going to Seattle has ended as well. Which is a shame, because in Bavasi's current mind state, we'd probably end up with Ichiro for him. As for the Buehrle and Young rumors, I'd rather target Hurley, Danks and Masset if we're going after someone from the Rangers. Young's not the greatest defensively at SS either, and I can't believe that will appeal to Ozzie and KW. He's underrated offensively in my mind though, but the difference isn't big enough to trade a SP for him.

The only way Bonds makes sense to me is as a DH. For a team that is meant to be built around pitching and defense, Bonds would be a downgrade on Scott Podsednik defensively, and that's saying something in itself. If you could trade Thome, and then put Bonds at DH, I wouldn't mind it so much (even though I hate Bonds), but it's never going to happen.

Burke + Patton + Justin Towles (catcher prospect) would be a type of deal I'd enquire about for Garcia. Also, considering the Astros have Carlos Lee, Willy Taveras, Luke Scott, Jason Lane and possibly Chris Burke who could all be starting OF's for them, it could make a guy like Hunter Pence available. He had very good numbers in the minors this season, and if you could get him in a deal, and get more in that deal than say you would with a deal including Lastings Milledge for one of our starters, the Sox should certainly look into that possibility. We're gonna need someone to replace Jermaine Dye if he leaves in FA after next season, and a guy like Pence who we would control for a long time could be ideal.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 07:39 PM) Yeah, that Aaron Rowand really sucks. He only was starting cf and team leader on a world championship team in a city that hadn't won one since the days of radio instead of TV. Bring back Aaron! Can I ask you this question Greg, if Brian Anderson was our starting CF in 2005, do you still think we would have won the world series? Or is it only because we had the almighty Aaron Rowand in CF that we did indeed reach our destiny?

Houston is certainly a team to consider if we're going to trade a SP, and I hadn't really thought of them. Here's some of their spects (reviewed by Sickels, grade was for the pre-season) 1) Jason Hirsh, RHP, Grade A- 10-2, 2.18 in 19 starts for Triple-A Round Rock, 102/46 K/BB in 115 innings with just four homers allowed. Nothing left to prove in the minors. An excellent pitching prospect. 2) Troy Patton, LHP, Grade B+ 6-7, 3.12 in 18 starts for Class A Salem, 94/35 K/BB in 95 innings. Has pitched better lately after a slow start. Another strong prospect. 3) Hunter Pence, OF, B+ Hitting .295/.357/.563 with 20 doubles, 22 homers, and 12 steals for Double-A Corpus Cristi. Not much to complain about, doing very well. 10) Matt Albers, RHP, C+ Breakthrough: 10-2, 2.17 in 19 starts for Corpus Cristi, 95/47 K/BB in 116 innings, just 4 homers allowed. Command still needs some sharpening but a fine prospect. 11) Justin Towles, C, C+ Hitting .314/.387/.519 for Lexington with 10 steals. Very intriguing hitter. Burke had splits of .276/.347/.418 this season. Now if the Astros don't re-sign Clemens, lose Pettite to the Yankees and Backe leaves, that's what 3 guys from their 2006 rotation that won't be there.

I certainly think there's 2 possible scenarios to help Terrero make the ballclub; Pods is moved for prospects or a backup catcher, with Iguchi the new leadoff hitter. OR Cintron or Ozuna is traded, to help open up more playing time on the infield for Mack. Or Mack could be moved himself, because if he's not going to play CF, then unless he's a platoon partner at say LF, it's going to be hard to get him enough AB's.
-
So Luis Terrero is in a pretty good position to make the 25 man roster now possibly?

I figure now if the Yanks and Sox are discussing a deal, it's probably built around say Melky Cabrera and Humberto Sanchez for one of the Sox's SP's. I think we can do better if we look elsewhere though. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 04:15 PM) Or you get Melky, one of the studs from the Tigers, and a power relief arm like Farnsworth. Not saying its a deal they make but its not the worse thing in the world. I still think your more likely right and I think they are probably talking Arod but from there other talks may have occured but Kenny may have went with that and than said nah this doesn't make sense. I forgot about Farmsworth, it was mentioned on Rotoworld a few days back, that the Yanks would be open to moving him. One of our SP's for Melky, Sanchez and Farmsworth would be intriguing.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 12:43 PM) For Burgos? That conversation wouldn't last long. Well consider that we gave up Tyler Lumsden who most people would say would probably have better stuff than Broadway for Mike MacDougall who's had arm problems. I think Kenny would seriously consider a Burgos for Broadway deal, IF, he could get some young starting pitching in say a deal with the Rangers or Mets for Garcia or Vazquez. Burgos would be under our control for about 4 seasons as well,and he fits the Sox's mould of a hard throwing reliever (albeit his control needs work).

Official 2006-2007 NBA Discussion Thread

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 04:56 PM) Bulls to 8-9, and with this schedule for the next month....they could make some SERIOUS hay. And DBAHO is happy, Jameer Nelson hits a late 3 to win at Arco and pad their best record in the East. Yeah we're becoming experts in the close games, I don't think we've lost a game that's been decided under about 5 points or something like that yet. We win in Indiana tomorrow, that's a 5-1 roadtrip. And if Dwight Howard isn't an all - star this year, well I don't know what to say. I've been impressed by the Bulls since Nocioni went into the starting lineup though. Him and Deng are providing a nice 1-2 scoring punch for you guys. -
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:59 AM) They both replaced Drew Bledsoe winnar Exactly. And hopefully Romo leads our team to a superbowl win like Brady did.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 10:39 AM) Aaron needs to retire or something. And you need to change your name or something.

QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:13 AM) Wonder what we could give up to get involved in those talks... Probably Lance Broadway I'd have to say.

Rollins and Madson would be the ONLY way I would be interested in a Phillies deal. Just say no to Aaron Rowand. We can better, a lot better.

Saw this little snippet;

This statement here about Zito and the Mets gives me hope that they'll have to come back to us; And haven't the Rangers offered a 6Y/102M deal already?

Speaking of Russ Springer;
-
Putting this in here; I hope we're seriously not considering a Rowand and Castro for Garcia type of deal here.
-
The only way I do this deal, is if Vernon Wells signs a long - term deal with the Sox, below the contract that Carlos Beltran signed. And in this current marketplace, that ain't going to happen. So I'd rather trade the starter you'd have to give up for Vernon for young pitching, and keep Brian Anderson in CF.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 11:01 PM) You are closer than anyone else to Taiwan. You get cracking! I can speak a little Chinese, and well that's about it. There was a video on Cheat's Southsidesox though that showed him pitching, so I suggest people check that out if they want to have a look at him. I think he reached 143KMH on his fastball, which is 89MPH.

Williams working on extension for Buehrle/Garcia
DBAHO replied to Gene Honda Civic's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Considering 5/75 was being bandied about as a MINIMUM for Buehrle to be re-signed when he was pitching well mid-season, getting him to a 5/55 deal, seems like a pretty good deal from our end, especially when you consider the current market price of starting pitching free agency. Now if he pitches like the MB of old after he signs that deal, it'll be a masterstroke by KW. And I think something will get done, he's basically the face of the franchise in my mind. That said, I hope Buehrle is getting PLENTY of rest this off-season, especially that arm, because I think that's what caused the problems for him this season, too many innings in that arm too soon.
