  1. QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 10:34 PM) Last yr, Giles had a higher SLG % at home. Whatever the reason, I don't think Giles will hit for over a .600 SLG like he did in Pitt a few yrs back. Add in the fact he wants to play on the west coast, all this talk about him playing for the sox in 2006 is just fiction anyway Everyone knows the chances of us signing Giles are minute at best, we're just debating how much he's actually worth based on his stats. As for this year SLG%; HOME - .417% AWAY - .545% Even if Giles doesn't hit for a SLG% over .600, his home SLG% will surely go up if he leaves San Diego. And so long as he keeps the patient approach, the OPS will probably go up, depending on how much he's got left in the tank.
  2. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 07:16 PM) Nah your defense has improved but cmon our group is a top 5 unit... yours still has some work to do. Also keep in mind ours has perfomed better while being on the field longer since you guys have a better offense. Before the Arizona game, the 3 weeks before that we played Philly, the Giants and the Seahawks. We held those teams to 10, 13 and 13 points. That's pretty damn good. We still need some upgrades at LB and FS no doubt, but our D-Line rotation would be right up there with Ellis, Spears, Canty, Glover, Thornton and Ferguson all having success at some point this season. The Bears D has had more success over a longer period of time no doubt, and full credit to them. I think we're on our way too though.
  3. The Earlsboro coach was so embarrassed, he said it twice!!!
  4. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 05:10 PM) Wrong...he has done a hell of a job in the draft. For cripes sakes Orton and Bradley both look like winners, Chris Harris a starting safety..another winner and thats just this years draft. Verdict is obviously still out on all of them, including Benson. Peanut Tillman, Lance Briggs, Nathan Vasher, Tommie Harris, Tank Johnson, Ian Scott, the list goes on and on and on. Angelo has done an oustanding job. The only real knock you could say he had was the trade for Grossman/Haynes for Dewayne Roberson and I still think that was the right move. Roberson hasn't reached his potential and the Bears saved a lot of money trading down and did get themselves two quality players. Haynes would get significant snaps for a lot of teams and well Rex has looked like a quality QB when he's on the field, but the GM can't control injuries. Da Bears >>> Dallas C'mon Jason. Let's have a look at the other picks he's made. Michael Haynes at pick 14, that was a bust. We don't know how Grossman is going to pan out yet, so we'll put an * next to him. Berrian hasn't done much as a receiver yet. Harris is only starting because Mike Green got benched because of his poor play. Benson's been a bust so far (albeit because of Thomas Jones's play). Angelo's done fairly well in the later rounds of the draft, but his 1st round picks over the years have not have a good rate of success. He was only in the doghouse a few weeks ago when the Bears had a sub .500 record, IIRC. It's easy to say Robertson hasn't rached his potential yet, but you gotta remember they also had Jason Ferguson and Josh Evans in there at DT. Now that DeWayne's the #1 guy in there, his numbers are getting much better, he has 16 tackles and 3 sacks in the last 3 games. As for Chicago being better than Dallas, well I dispute that heavily. You've played only 2 teams this season with a record above .500, and you lost both of those game. Chicago is still the 27th worst team in yards for offense, which ain't good with the way Thomas Jones has been rushing. Defensively, I know everyone will say Chicago is better, but there are some aspects of our D I like better, such as our CB's (I'll take Newman/Henry/Glenn over Tillman/Vasher/Azumah), and it's quite close up front and with the LB's as well. Dallas's offense makes the difference with Bledsoe, Jones, Glenn and Keyshawn.
  5. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 06:13 PM) Sweetney looks like a beast around the rim but he is a total hacker on defense. I can see why he isn't starting. He would foul out by halftime. I still love his offensive game and potential though. That's the main gripe about him, can't really play defense at all. But I suppose if anyone's going to teach him, it'll be Scott Skiles. I suppose that's probably why he was included in the Curry deal as well, Larry Brown wouldn't play Sweetney much if he played, because he doesn't play defense. That's why Antonio Davis is getting so many minutes.
  6. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 05:00 PM) I pretty much feel the same way you do. I'm interested to see how long they stick with this because they aren't a playoff team without TO, especially with McNabb all banged up. I've never ever seen TO take a play off on the field. Thats something that can't be forgotten. I don't think the issue is how TO goes on the field, we all know he doesn't take a play off, and is one of the best etc. Inside that locker room however, if you're Donovan McNabb, how can you possibly play with this guy? And his other team-mates as well? He's already bashed you numerous times. And because Donovan's signed long - term, and he's playing through an injury for the good of the team, no way you want to alienate him anymore. No 1 man is bigger than the team.
  7. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 05:13 PM) Can they really even suspend him w/out pay for something like this. He didnt do anything to breach his contract or something like that. Didnt do anything against the rules..... Because if you could just suspend people without pay..... even if they are part of the salary teams could do that to players who have sucked once getting the big money. It depends, I think if it's for 1 game they can, but if they do for a whole season like Jon Gruden did with Keyshawn, then they have to pay him, but I'm not 100% sure on that. I doubt TO would care greatly anyway. He's going to sell his house for $4.4M as well.
  8. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 03:59 PM) they should have cut off his thumbs You're very big on that today aren't you.
  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 02:42 PM) I'm sure they wouldn't care either, but it would just consign them to another 5 years of losing until they were finally able to trade him with 1 year left on the contract. The only way the Royals are going to build a winning team is to do exactly what Cleveland did this year...develop people, trade them away, constantly get younger, draft well, stockpile talent, and then at the last moment, sign the 1 or 2 guys who will help you get over the top. It's a long process, but it can be done. Look at Milwaukee. That's exactly the model they need to be focusing on. The only problem is, they're hardly stocked with minor league talent like Cleveland or Milwaulkee. Billy Butler and Alex Gordon will be 2 impact players down the road. And they've got some nice young bullpen arms in Sisco and Burgos. Besides that though, there's not a lot of hope. But it can be done, if you've got good young pitching. That's a huge key for any franchise.
  10. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 03:01 PM) We need an actual C. From the sounds of it and watching him play against the Bobcats I dont like Chandler there when he is clearly a PF. We dont have 1 legit C on the team and thats going to kill us the entire season. Kelvin Cato. My guess is the way Orlando is heading we're rebuilding, and he's an ending contact. Could definitely be had at the deadline or even before then. Would make perfect sense for you guys.
  11. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 03:02 PM) Just so you know while he was a 1st rounder most people didnt think he would go in the 1st round more likely the 2nd.... it was a reach for a pick to begin with. Yeah, like we drafted Jacob Rogers in the 2nd round from USC 2 season ago, chronic shoulder injuries, didn't play 1 game for us and got released. As for the Colombo pick, just another example of Angelo's poor drafting record.
  12. So it's been a good week for Bush hasn't it.
  13. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 09:07 AM) No team with a payroll under $40 million should sign a player to a $10 million a year deal. Well if they could get Furcal, I'm sure they would no matter what the payroll is. You're right in saying no way should 25% of your payroll go into one player (Maggilo Ordonez people), but the Royals are so desperate for upgrades, I'm sure they wouldn't care.
  14. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 01:25 PM) God Jefferson scores starts jawing at Noc. So next time down Noc forces some s***ty hook shot...way off. Play your game Noc, meaning stop shooting and play defense. Gees Noc is even shooting worse by himself than us as a team tonight Willie. What's up with that? (Oh and Dwight, hit your f***IN Free Throws).
  15. Harrington with 5 TO's. That's ummmmmm good......
  16. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 5, 2005 -> 02:23 PM) Good luck with that. The main issue is his health of course, but if he can stay healthy, he was a 1st rounder, could definitely be interesting to watch. Funny thing is Ross Verba was telling his buddies he was about to ink a nice long - term deal with the Boys just before we signed Colombo.
  17. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 12:55 PM) Well....since Timo is the only bench player available I guess you grounded out to first. Still he made $1M which is better than you.
  18. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 12:29 PM) Well, this should make for some enjoyable moderating on these boards. All signs point to yes.
  19. QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 12:12 PM) Interesting that Giles home and away splits for HR's are pretty even. From 2002-2004, [the first two years in Pitt], Giles hit 28 Hr's in 800 ab's at home, while hitting 30 hr's in 846 ab's on the road. This last yr, he hit 6 hr's in 266 ab's at home. and 9 hr's in 279 ab's on the road. If Petco was the sole reason for his drop off, you'd expect a larger discrepancy. Personally, I go by both a dropoff in numbers and a grown man reverting back to his previous life form as a possible past steroid user. Nothing about his stats make me think any different But Giles also had a .333/.463/.545 line in those away game, with a 70/24 BB/K ratio, and 26 doubles. Compare that to say Paulie who had 8 more HR's in away games, but 12 less doubles and a much worse K/BB ratio. Giles doesn't have to hit for massive amounts of power to be successful.
  20. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 05:19 AM) If a 148 OPS+ from last year is comming down to earth, I wish more players would do the same. It's funny how Brian Giles' power numbers dropped midseason in '03 when he was traded to San Diego. You get Brian Giles out of Petco and he goes back to his 30+ HR self. Put simply, PETCO is the worst ballpark for LH hitters. Giles' has shown anyway, you don't need to hit 30+ homers to put up a +.900 OPS. Imagine the numbers next season if he gets out of there.
  21. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 11:38 AM) Its easy to say that the eagles will be better off without him. That logic was faulty with Moss and the Vikings. Of course they had other circumstances like Birk but its kind of a close example Yeah, well the Eagles will definitely be drafting another WR very high in the upcoming draft, but they've got some good young WR's in Greg Lewis and Reggie Brown (I think that's his name), who deserve some playing time.
  22. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 06:22 AM) I honestly do not blame TO for all of this, as the Eagles are one of the most thrifty franchises in the game and other players like Trotter and Westbrook feel the same and have said similar things to TO in regards to the money situation. http://www.igglephans.com That's because they don't give big contracts to veteran players who are past their prime. Hugh Douglas was a perfect example. Bobby Taylor and Troy Vincent left, and they hardly missed a beat, getting Sheldon Brown and Lito Sheppard (who they drafted) to step in.
  23. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 11:12 AM) Well of course, you're a cowboys fan. I agree though, I like what the eagles are doing. Well yeah, even with TO I don't know if the Eagles would have made the playoffs. You just can't put up with all of the BS that he has pulled on that team for so long.
