QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 13, 2005 -> 07:21 AM) Bobby Crosby says hi. Oh no, you forgot his magic ball said Crosby was moving to 2nd.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 13, 2005 -> 01:40 PM) what about Matt LeCroy? He would be great off the bench. We need someone who can hit better off righties since we weren't very good at all against them. LeCroy's splits against righties; .228/.319/.322 I tend to think LeCroy will end up elsewhere anyways.

Is Kirilenko injured? He's only played 10 mins. Oh and I guess Willie's at the game tonight.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 13, 2005 -> 01:02 PM) He is a hack on defense. I would rather have Frank. But he does have some pop and i think he bats left handed. That is why he would DH.

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 13, 2005 -> 11:24 AM) 400$ The 300$ is a cheap skate move by Microsoft in which you will be paying around $600-$700 once you buy all of the neccessities after you buy the initial system. Basically its just to make a quick dollar at launch from unaware consumers. But if consumers have done their homework, they'll already know that the $400 option is much better.

Okur's been on fire so far this season. Shut him down, and make sure Kirilenko doesn't go "I'll reject everything" on ya, and the Bulls should win.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Nov 13, 2005 -> 08:01 AM) What was his injury last year? And whatever it is, does it sound like something that could be nagging? He had Tommy John Surgery, IIRC, or something to do with his elbow.
-
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Nov 13, 2005 -> 04:43 AM) Doesnt he have a problem with staying injured? 154 games in 2003 and 142 games in 2004 overlooking his injury this season. Perfect "sign low" candidate. .919 OPS in 2004 remember.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 07:57 PM) To all you guys that think Anderson would step in and put up similar numbers to Rowand, let's take a look at something. I'm shocked noone has made this point yet. Jeremy Reed was the next coming superstar before he was included in the Garcia deal. He had a half season of ML experience in 2004 after being shipped to M's. So, how did his 2005 numbers compare to Rowand? Reed - .254 3HR 45RBI .322OBP .352SLG .674OPS ARow - .270 13HR 69RBI .329OBP .407SLG .736OPS Reed came in below Rowand in every catagory. He was much more ballyhooed as a prospec than Anderson is now. Reed had a half season experience under his belt as well, so he knew what to expect more than Anderson will. I say it's very very possible that Anderson's numbers come in under Jeremy Reed's if he's given CF next year. In fact, Rowand has a better chance of achieving Rowand's 2004 numbers than Anderson has at achieving Rowand's 2005 numbers. You gotta remember this though YAS, Reed plays half his games at Safeco Field and virtually has no power at the moment. He hit no home runs at all there this season. Anderson on the other hand, if he played everyday could hit 15-20 HR's still, since he plays half his games at the Cell. As for your point on Rowand having a better chance to return to his 2004 numbers, that may be the case, but I still like Anderson's long - term scope better than Rowand's. And if we have to fill a need via a trade, and a team wants Rowand, I've got no hesitation at all giving him up.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 09:45 PM) Yay, at 4:45, I'm the only member currently on soxtalk. Yeah my apologies, I actually went out tonight. Job Interview on Monday. Yay. Let's hope it actually comes out with a good outcome this time, unlike my last 2 vacation ones.

Bears impending QB "controversy"?
DBAHO replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 05:29 PM) Grossman didnt even have Booker for most of his games... He had Booker his rookie season but not for last season and than Grossman hasnt even played this season. In his 2nd season Grossman was throwing 200 yards a game and that was with the number 1 WR being Terrell and a crapshoot offensive line. Not 2 mention our defense has improved and giving our O better field position. So with less Grossman did more.... Not 2 mention pocket presence.... Grossman knew what was happening around him much more so than Orton does and part of that is because Grossman while not playing all the games has been in the NFL and studies twice as hard as Orton does. And you gotta remember with Grossman, he's had to learn 3 different offensive systems in 3 straight years. I don't care who you are, that's tough to handle and adjust to. And thank you for proving my point with the O-Line and WR's. -

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 05:24 PM) but he is ok right now. Don't you think though, that Chicago really has a chance to do something in the playoffs this season, and having Orton as the QB, they won't be able to? As for him being a great QB, we'll have to wait and see. But the success rate for QB's in the last 3 years who have been taken higher than the 4th round, isn't that great. -
Pat Gillick's BIG on clubhouse chemistry. He showed in his time at Seattle even after RJ and Pay-Rod left, that they were still a succesful franchise. If the right parts were available via trade or the FA market, and Gillick needs payroll to open that up, I wouldn't be suprised to see him move Abreu, although we all know Thome is likely the 1st option. They'll have to rebuild that pen though, and add some groundball pitchers.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 05:22 PM) because of the Receiving yards he put up and how much he made. If the Bears had a really good QB, how many more receptions do you think Muhsin Muhammed would have? -

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 05:11 PM) but how do you know this. It's not like Grossman had a bunch of hacks as Receivers. I think Booker was a Pro Bowler once and Terrell was a solid #2 Receiver. The point is, because a QB may lead you to the playoffs, it doesn't mean, oh he's automatically good enough. Yeah Carter had a drug problem, but Parcells was looking for ANY excuse to make a change there. And has he been vindacated? Yeah. Trent Dilfer, well Brian Billick is just stupid. But Dilfer hasn't really had any success at another NFL franchise, although he did do ok in Seattle for a while, until Hasselbeck finally emerged. -

I think Booker was a Pro Bowler once and Terrell was a solid #2 Receiver. And the Bears O-Line? What was it like back then I wonder. Booker WAS a pro-bowler, that was before Grossman became the QB. Terrell, you should know as a Bears fan what they thought of him. The point is, Grossman has a better deep ball, and won't overthrow receivers as much as Kyle Orton does. Orton only has a completion percentage of 54.2%. For qualified QB's this season, that is the 3rd WORST in the NFL. QB Rating, 62.9, 2nd WORST in the NFL. -

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 04:04 PM) he is managing the game. Look the bears would still be running the ball 65% of the time with Grossman in there anyways. This was built as a run first team. But then you'd see the likes of Muhammed getting a lot more receptions, especially with the play-action pass, and Grossman being able to throw a much better deep ball. -

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) What is so special about Grossman? I mean I am serious. His stats are very average. So he has a strong arm. He can never stay healthy. If i am the coach it is Orton and if he gets hurt you go to Jeff Blake. Than you can have a QB competition if you want. I would say though that if Orton leads this team to the playoffs what is the point of a QB battle at Training Camp. Quincy Carter lead his team to the playoffs. Did you see where that ended up? Trent Dilfer lead his team to the playoffs. Sense a pattern here? As for your diagnosis once again, you don't KNOW for 100% that the next time Grossman steps out onto a football field, he's going to do his ACL, or break his leg. -
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 02:23 PM) Do people really believe our payroll is going to raise from $75 million to $95 - $100 million? I think it'll be b/w the 90-95M mark. The Sox have shown over the past 5 years, they'll put moneu back into the payroll, it's risen every year. With all the factors in play, e.g attendance, world series revenue, it's very, very possible, depending on the right guys out there like Delgado could be had for the right price.

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 12:13 PM) Wow... just wow... If you learned to read I said he managed to get on somehow either with a walk or a hit every game in the post season... POST SEASON his OBP wasn't .329... Either way my point was that he is hardly the worst at his position... Average maybe but average isn't "s***ty"... And there was a time that these same baseball Guru's said the same kind of s*** about Corey Patterson and Joe Borchard... where are they today... No Post-season his OBP was .333. Big Difference There. No-one's saying Rowand's the worst CF in the majors. We're saying, we've more got more important needs on this team to fill (e.g a DH, or a 1B if Paulie leaves), and when you've got Brian Anderson who is ready to play everyday, then for the RIGHT deal, Rowand is very expendable. Have a look at the minor - league stats for Borchard and Anderson. Quite a difference in terms of the way Anderson has moved thru the system. It took 1 year for Anderson to move from A ball to AAA in Charlotte.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 10:53 AM) I'm really interested in seeing what Chad Tracy does in 2006. As am I of course. But I think with the D-Backs lineup, where he'll be hitting etc. that the chances of him staying at his 2005 numbers and not regressing, are better than Rowand's.
-
QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 12:03 PM) LOL... you made this way too easy... Aaron Rowand year by year offensively... 2001 Chicago White Sox 63 At bats .293 Avg 2002 Chicago White Sox 126 At bats .258 Avg. 2003 Chicago White Sox 93 At bats .287 Avg. 2004 Chicago White Sox 140 At bats .310 Avg. 2005 Chicago White Sox 157 At bats .270 Avg Career .283 hitter.. So at worst he's slightly above average and at his best among the best contact hitters in the league.... Of course all the real baseball fans define average as s***ty. But what more can you expect from the people who wanted to get rid of an ultra cheap Jon Garland when he was good for a guarunteed 12 wins a year and replace him with someone who would cost twice as much at least... Of course if we had done that we'd of still been looking at the revolving door 5th starter... Like I said before.... Anderson is hardly a guaruntee to be equal on defense to Rowand... To know the cell inside and out... To know the perfect route... and to put up at least a decent average... No Anderson might not be Borchard... But on a team that hopes to be a contender we can't take that chance... Their world series performance aside Uribe and Crede are still much bigger ? marks offensively... By the way we are talking about a guy who hit .267 in the playoffs... .294 in the world series... and got himself on base somehow almost every game.... His hits might not of been as sexy as Konerko's or Crede's but he's still a part of this team... Anderson has yet to prove he can do that... Take the rose colored glasses off for a second. You cannot tell me Rowand had a good year offensively in 2005. In his major league career, Rowand has a K/BB ratio of 310:96. In 2005, that number was 116/32. An OPS of .736. You cannot tell me, a .736 OPS for a major league OF, who doesn't do anything special offensively, is GOOD. Gets on base somehow every game? The guy had a freakin OBP of .329. Have you read the scouting reports on Anderson? Have you read what the minor league gurus have said about his defense? The ability to play any OF spot? If you can get a good return for Rowand, that helps you fill more IMPORTANT needs, when you've got a young guy in Anderson who's ready to jump in, you do it.

Also on the Knicks, Peter Vecsey is reporting that the Knicks are going to trade Marbury, possibly to Toronto for Jalen Rose. Man that didn't take long at all did it.
