  1. QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 01:22 AM) Wes Whisler Fan Club, pm me to join ... Don't forget the Gio Gonzalez, Ray Liotta and Daniel Haigwood fan clubs now.
  2. QUOTE(quickman @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 01:17 AM) don't forget Edwin almonte, he was our closer in double A. Now Corwin Malone is the closer in doubleA. Wasn't Corwin one of our top left handed prospects, Paving the way for the great Wes Whisler. Malone is not the closer in AA. Dwanye Pollok and Paulino Reynoso are actually rotating the role. Almonte was all the way back in 2001 BTW.
  3. QUOTE(quickman @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 01:14 AM) Here comes the Baj apologist. I really don't care who was injured and when. I know you like him but why isn't he playing here or any other damn ball club. I will measure the players on what they do here. I don't think he will make it. Whats wrong with that? So far I am right. Please tell me when he makes this club and sticks. LEt me know.When? The guys in the pen in front of Jeff Bajenaru; Dustin Hermanson, Neal Cotts, Cliff Politte, Bobby Jenks, Damaso Marte and Luis Vizcaino (Adkins as the long man). That's a damn good pen, and almost every other major league team would love to have it. Therefore there's no room for Baj at the moment. Maybe teams have tried to trade for him and KW has said no. It's awfully premajure to write a guy off after he's had what 8 innings of major league relief. People were falling over themselves bashing the crap out of Neal Cotts earlier in the year. After 1 simple adjustment now they're fallin all over themselves to get on his bandwagon.
  4. QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 12:57 AM) I plan on getting a new puppy soon, I guess there are some similarities, yes? Just get one that doesn't bark.
  5. QUOTE(quickman @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 12:48 AM) My argument is that we have a crappy minor league system and have had one for the past 5 or so years. As to your above quotes - I do think Jenks is ready "we didn't develop him" nice pick up though. Gload is a backup player, thats all he will be and yes he tears up AAA pitching because he spent his life there. Both Baj and Gload are better because they are older but there game should have transitioned already. They will never make it playing everyday. So far I am right. Ok quick name 10 other minor league systems that are better than the Sox's for me (and it's a serious question because I think with the way our prospects have played this season so far it's certainly gone up the list). Don't you think getting Jenks was good scouting for KW and the minor league guru's as well? I don't really agree 100% with the statement that we didn't develop him. Sure he had his stuff, but he was a train wreck. The Sox and the guys down in B-Ham gave him guidance on and off the field, converted him into a closer, and got him to throw strikes. Don't forget this on Baj too quick, he was 22 when he was drafted by the Sox. He's 26-27 now. He missed 2002 with that shoulder injury. Since then he's posted ERA's of 3.2 in B-Ham (2003), 1.34 in B-Ham (04), 1.80 in Charlotte (04) and 1.04 this season in Charlotte. In reference to Jim's earlier post about using Adkins instead of Baj, I've haven't got so much of a problem with that as other posters here. What I did have a problem with however, was Kevin Walker being given an oppurtunity, not once but twice, despite the fact he had terrible numbers down in Charlotte, and wasn't even used as a lefty LOOGY because he couldn't even get any hitters out at all.
  6. I love Bears fans already proclaiming Orton to be the next saviour...........

    QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 04:40 PM) I used to have a crush on the Pink Ranger... Who's all grown up now. Ever watched Felicity SoxFan?
  8. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 01:26 PM) You sure the brownies they were serving in the lobby weren't laced with something, Kid? That Dorothy the Dinosaur might give Godzilla a run for his/her money, though... One of the cooler things I've seen at K-Mart, a Dorothy the Dinosaur Tail. Just strap the velcro around your waist, and you've got yourself an authentic Dinosaur Tail. But yeah they're huge in the States now, we hardly actually see them much down here anymore quite frankly.
  9. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 08:19 PM) I think we can still be competetive with Hutchinson as our QB. Yes he isnt that good but unlike Krenzel and Quinn he can move the ball some. The key to the season is keeping the defense healthy... If everyone on defense stays healthy especially azumah once he returns than im not ready to give up on the season. With our defense we can score 14 points a game and still win and with our improved O-Line, running game, and WR's I think our offense can do that. Hopefully with Benson and Jones running it takes a lot of time off the clock and gives our defense a rest which i believe if given a fair rest not on the field 80% they can be the most dominant defense maybe next to baltimore. And its not like baltimore is good offensively either and they have been pretty good. The difference is Baltimore's defense is probably just a little better than Chicago (watch me get crucified here), plus the Ravens have had a real damn good running game over the years. Just saying it shows how important it is to get Benson in camp, get him to run effectively with that power runnin that Ron Turner wants, to take time off the clock and the pressure of Chad Hutchison. You don't Chad Hutchison to win the game for you, they only need him to manage it. Can he do it? Not without damn good protection he can't.
  10. The Borch to Young comparison is actually an interesting one if you look at the numbers; 1 - In Borch's best year in AA (2001), he had splits of .295/.380/.509. Right now Chris Young has splits of .278/.372/.548 giving him a higher OPS, but a lower BA than Borch had. 2 - K/BB ratio. Borch had a 158/67 in that year. Young's is 105/53. 3 - Extra Base Hits - Chris Young already has 37 doubles in 100 games. Borchard had 27 in 133 games. 4 - Stolen Bases - Where Young comes into his own. 22 to 5 from Borch in that year. Of course after Borch's year in AA, he moved onto Charlotte where he hit .272 with 20HR's. That's ok right? Well don't forget the 139/49 K/BB ratio. So what I'm trying to say is that Chris Young and Joe Borchard are 2 different players. Young gets on base more from his ability to draw a walk, and to striking out a little less than Borch (still an area he really needs to work on). But you can see with the stolen bases and extra base hits, the tools and that potential is all there for everyone to see. You just hope, they don't rush him like they did with Mr. Borchard. He's only 21, let him repeat in B-Ham to start of next season if he stays to show that this year wasn't a fluke, and then let him move up to Charlotte for the rest of the year, he shouldn't be up by 2007 anyways. Would I include him in a Griffey deal? No I wouldn't. I'd give them Brian Anderson instead. Yeah Anderson is the most ready, and is gonna be a good player in his career. Does he have all - star potential though? Probably not. Do Chris Young and Ryan Sweeney? Yes, yes they do. So in essence like Jason said, I'd be willing to give up some pitching prospects instead. I'd like to keep Gio, and I'd be willing to say give them Ray Liotta, Casey Rogowski and Wes Whisler in a deal. Will Cinci accept? Probably not, but they're desperate for good young pitching, and may accept less of a deal if it includes some, something to consider.

    QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 02:53 PM) The tomboy from Step by Step... Those infamous Red X's in a chick thread have mysteriously returned again.........
  12. So yeah..... McCarthy DOESN'T suck. Just wanted to point that out to my fellow SoxTalk users. Good to see no walks, must be getting a handle on that change a lot better now. And I'm going to jump on the Aaron Cunningham bandwagon too soon, he just keeps on hitting down at Bristol. Get him to Kanny.
  13. Just some stats for our minor league hitters (I'm on the promote Anderson before September bandwagon BTW); Anderson - .297/.363/.478 Borchard - .261/.333/.467 Owens - .340/.400/.404 Young - .278/.366/.548 Sweeney - .285/.348/.352
  14. My newly promoted English Premier League Soccer Team starts off the season winning 3-1. Wearing the club jersey (cost me $8 in Malaysia), it's good to see at least one of my fav sports team won today (considering the Sox and my footy team (by 1 point) both lost today).
  15. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 06:25 PM) Your reasoning??? PLEASE??? They have no centerfielder and bottomless pockets, why would they not claim Junior? Steinbrenner won't want to keep paying a guy until 2025, especially when the payroll is already $200M. Then of course they'd have to work out a trade for Junior. They have pretty much no-one in their minor league system besides Eric Duncan (who's struggling at AAA). Is Ken Griffey Jr. going to be the answer for them to win the World Series when they have already sub standard pitching besides Johnson and Mussina (albeit Chacon has pitched well lately)?
  16. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 08:55 PM) Even Krod and Shields have been having some problems as of late. It seems Donnelly's season went down hill after the finger licking incident at the cell. Yep they're spluttering down the stretch, and in the 2 games that I saw against Seattle when I went, they didn't look good at all. They do have some damn good prospects though, so the future is rosy. And Figgins and Erstad are a damn good 1-2 punch at the top of that lineup.
  17. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 08:45 PM) To go along with a solid, but streaky offense. Sounds a bit like the Angels, doesn't it? Yeah, except the Angels pen hasn't been as good as in previous years. Donnelly's got a 3.99 ERA, while the likes of Yan, Peralta, Woods and Gregg all have ERA's above 4. Yes, Shields and K-Rod, are great, but besides those 2, they haven't been all that good, not Cleveland good anyways. With their offense, quite simple really, shut down Vlad and Garret in the middle of that lineup, they'll struggle to score runs. The Jeff Davanon's (who's always a crowd favorite), Juan Rivera's, Steve Finley's (based on his season so far) etc. don't really strike much fear into opposing pitchers.
  18. QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 08:28 PM) Angelo tried to trade for Ramsey at one point. Getting him now wouldn't shock me at all. He could be had for something like a 3rd rounder. In the right offense, he's shown he can be a good starting QB in the league (under Spurrier's offense albeit). Either way, Rex Grossman's status as the long - term starter lookd iffy at best right now, which is a shame because he's got talent, he just can't get on the field to show it.
  19. And alas the Indians wasted another good oppurtunity to get a game on us losing to the D-Rays today, thanks to Jake Westbrook. Their starting pitching is still quite iffy to me. Westbrook's struggled for the majority of the year, Sabathia's had a bad year (5.10 ERA), Elarton is a #5 nothing more, Cliff Lee is a notorious 1st half pitcher, and can Millwood keep up the way he's pitched so far. They've got a great bullpen though. Fernando Cabrera has come up and dominated (watch out for this guy in the future), while guys like Miller, Rhodes, Wickman, well basically everyone in their pen have all had a real good year.
  20. QUOTE(danman31 @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 04:20 PM) The season isn't over yet, but I was reading this again and it was a good read. I figure it's worth a bump. Overall everyone did pretty well, other than everyone wanting to pick Adam Ricks. Yep as in me (I must have some kind of curse when it comes to sleeper picks). Only hitting .236 (which granted is better than earlier in the year), but only slugging .293. But there's still light at the end of the tunnel no doubt; BB/K ratio - 54/39 OBP - .385
  21. QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 08:20 PM) I don't know. I click it and it works. Dunno, it may be only you can see it because it looks like a yahoo user group file. If you save it to your comp, then upload, should work.
  22. QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 07:58 PM) My Mug Didn't work for me; And ahh what the hell; EDIT: Trying to get it to load in here;
  23. So the other options out there at the moment; Testaverde - Showed last year he could still pass effectively. Ramsey - Not a favorite of Joe Gibbs. Wants to get rid of him to get Campbell in the lineup. Rohan Davey - Impressed in NFL Europe IIRC, and there's some teams interested in him considering he's 3rd string behind Brady and Flutie. With Matt Cassell's emergence, he could be released anyway. Josh McCown - Warner's the starter. Doubtful at best, and not really starter material. Chris Simms - Another good option. Likely not to be in Tampa next year.
  24. Others that I thought of that we could have been were the evil baby Gerald, Lenny or Carl, or Dr. Nick Riviera. But I'll giv em the Edna Krabappel one. My fav though;
