  1. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 01:09 AM) That would be a very, very tough line, which would be nice to have. I also agree about the Center issue, it needs to be adressed. However, Bell can play center if needed. I think best case, Bell needs to stay as a winger to really grow into that power forward, which he's shown some real good signs of the past few seasons. Hence why acquiring a #1 center is the most important issue for this team right now.
  2. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 12:54 AM) Same stroy goes for me. I miss Heather.... I think she's just really busy with her teaching stuff, once you get a full-time job and don't get an access to a computer during the day, it's just hard to keep up around here.
  3. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 01:07 AM) isn't he adorable? How does Hawk take the attraction b/w you two?
  4. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 01:04 AM) Ruutu-Arnason-Pallfy Bell-Brown-Daze Calder-Nichol?-Barnaby Bourque-Holmqvist-Voribev? Aucoin-Cullimore McCarthy-Vandamer Spachek-Babbs/Keith/Barinka? Isn't Bell a RW and Daze a LW? We need a #1 center, to bump Arny down to 2, and Brown to 3. LaPointe-Brown-Barnaby would then be one of the better #3 lines in the league. Can't see Calder playing below the 2nd line either.
  5. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 01:00 AM) I hope not. JR is passed his prime, and while it would be a big name and make casual fans happy, just not the right move for this team. If Dale can pull off getting the Bulin Wall and Palffy to Chicago, he should pack up shop, and be done with it. I would be very, very happy. Palffy would certainly be nice but wasn't he rumored to be heading to Toronto or somewhere else a day or 2 ago? A guy like Peter Bondra has had his name thrown about a little, although he's not an ideal solution.
  6. And look what Bobby Clarke wanted from JR for LA, Taylor, Frolov and Brown. That's the equivalent of Ruutu and Bell for Hawks players supossedly. Good luck trading him now with those demands.
  7. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 12:41 AM) Think this could be to create depth to make a bigger trade since we can't land any FA's? Exactly my line of thinking, this is gotta be setting up of something bigger. A guy like Kyle Calder could be included in a big deal for a #1 center for example. Just trying to think of who that guy would be (Thornton's probably not going to happen, considering I doubt he'll re-sign long term with us).
  8. Google Search and Soxnet. I still remember the days of logging in at High School, and my buddies thinking I was crazy posting on a baseball website.
  9. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 12:36 AM) boo. wish i could be there then. Hawk got ya doing chores around the house or something?
  10. QUOTE(Spiff @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 12:35 AM) LaPointe is terrible, good riddance. Not suprised you'd say that at all Spiff, not suprised at all. I guess LaPointe probably appealed to the Hawks cause he's a good character guy, and a grinder. Can he be relied on to post more than 40 points a season though? No.
  11. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 12:18 AM) He is only going to be a character type player.. he isn't going to be a #1 liner...he will be on the 3rd line more than anything. Also I am hoping Tallon will be doing better than this though. I don't see how with a $39M max payroll, you can contribute $2.4M over 3 years to a guy who's iffy to put up 40 points a season for you. Mike Modano's getting what on average (even though it's frontloaded) just under $1M more than LaPointe.
  12. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 12:18 AM) I remember going to Atlanta for Sox and Braves back in 2002. The fact that the Sox got swept wasn't enough, as I remember walking downtown seeing crackheads playing cards on two buckets right in the middle of the sidewalk. I was glad to get out of that town, it was a total dump everywhere we went, including right around the ballpark. When I was in Phoenix, a lot of the dowtown area is like that. Around the BOB and America West Arena it's nice, but you go a little west of there and it's just crackheads everywhere. My Dad's workmates thought it'd be a good initiation for me in America if I got dropped off there and they drove off.
  13. Just don't make Jason pitch with that girly arm of his.
  14. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 12:14 AM) I would certainly take Marty Lapointe....he is a solid pick up if the Hawks actually got him. I wouldn't. No offense to the guy, but he's nothing more than a 3rd liner to me. He's got 43 points over the past 2 seasons with Boston. He needs to score at least 35 to 40 points a season for it to be a good signing.
  15. QUOTE(Credepopsup @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 12:02 AM) Latest rumor - Martin LaPointe to the Hawks, 3yrs - $7.2m Where'd you hear that one? Last news on him from Rotoworld said he wanted a 4 year $10M deal, and Ottawa were probably going to give it to him. Can't see him picking us over Ottawa for a lesser offer, although maybe it's a smokescreen.
  16. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 12:00 AM) They still plan to move Thornton right? Maybe, depends what happens on his contract. Probably isn't going to sign a long - term deal and will sign the qualifying offer instead. The Detroit offer (with Pavel Datsyuk) looks to be the best so far.
  17. News on Zhamnov; How many centers do Boston have now? I'm counting Thornton, Scatchard, Zhamnov, and there's 1 or 2 more maybe.
  18. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 11:35 PM) A guy I would like to see the Hawks go after is Adam Deadmarsh and also a guy they were after a couple years ago in Chris Gratton. Not #1 type guys but would be much improved over some of the guys the Hawks have.... Gratton I can't really see considering they already have Curtis Brown as the #3 center (wasn't that a great signing Pully). It depends on whether they think Arny can handle being the #1 center, and I don't think they do. Deadmarsh is good winger WHEN healthy. Hasn't he had a lot of really bad concussion injuries over the past few seasons?
  19. QUOTE(kdhargo @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 11:11 PM) I know it is in retrospect looking back now at the 2000 draft, but after looking at the draft a bit, I had a question pop up that I thought I would ask this knowledge board. The Sox took Borchard at #12 in 2000, with the Phillies taking Utley at #15. We now know today that Utley is the more 'established' MLB-level player, but even w/o such hindsight, why is it that the Sox chose to take Borchard with this pick and not someone like Utley? Utley had better numbers across the board, including power numbers, and he was/is an IF, with Borchard as an OF. So, my question is simple: why did they choose what they did? Wouldn't one have thought that equally (and a bit better) power and average numbers coming from the IF position (Utley) would be more coveted and rarer than from an OF position (Borchard)? Were the Sox that in love with Borchard? Numbers aren't everything in the college / high school area. Borch probably had more tools than Utley at the time.
  20. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 11:01 PM) I do have to say Atlanta>>>>Detroit Oh yeah, I heard enough stories from one person in America when I was over there, not to go there.
  21. News from this morning's papers; Roenick to either Phoenix or LA. Wants to go back to the West Coast, so that prob counts us out; Roenick Article Toronto wants to sign Lindros and Allison to incentive laden contracts. I think they'll be our next targets if we're going after a center; Lindros - Allison Article
  22. Article on the Hawks missing out on Forsberg and Modano;
  23. QUOTE(GBlum27 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 04:47 PM) Garza started 15/16 last year for ATL Ahh my bad, well from what I can remember, he wasn't really that special for them, and they didn't really fight that hard to retain him. Interesting to see how he adjusts from Alex Gibbs to the Bears O-Line.
  24. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 04:20 PM) 1st off. Tait is a natural RT, we needed him at LT last year because thats where Rex needed the most blocking. Miller is a good mix of a run blocker and pass blocker. Look at what he did for Eddie George. And yes Rex still has lots to prove but I think it can be done and a playoff team can be fielded... Miller is what 32 or 34 now. I don't know if he'll be as much of an upgrade as Bears fans think (and that goes with the WR's as well), but we'll have to wait and see. Garza wasn't even a starting O-lineman for the Falcons last year was he?
  25. Can't see the Bears finishing above .500. JMHO, I think next year they very well could be a playoff team however.
